Oh my god, Purity gives me chills everytime I listen to this song. It is in my top 5 of Slipknot songs. The cleans in this are angel-like. «You all stare but you’ll never see, there’s something inside me»
Slipknot. One of the best bands I have ever heard. The anger, frustration and depression is just on another level. Their intensity and sound is second to none.
Is there gonna be reaction to demo songs? There's very good song called "snap" and the other two songs "interloper" and "despise" are demos for purity and diluted.
@@mollyesanborn Since you seem interested in looking into the demos, I'll spill you in on the details (since it is rather complex). Before Corey Taylor, they had a different singer who went by Anders Colsefni. With him, they released a studio album (now considered a demo) called "Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat" in 1996. Inbetween 1995 and 1997, they also recorded a slew of "demo" songs that were never put onto any studio album. I will link two youtube videos, the first will be the MFKR album and the second will be a fan-made album that mixes the unused demo songs together. ruclips.net/video/_7CB7WrWHYY/видео.html ruclips.net/video/Uqtw-BZgdq8/видео.html As a side note, Corey and Slipknot re-used a lot of material from MFKR and the demos into Self Titled and their second album Iowa, so you might want to listen to Iowa before listening to these.
The track 'Get This' wasn't on the original release of the album, but the digipak release which contained 4 bonus tracks... 'Me Inside', 'Get This', 'Interloper' (demo of 'Diluted'), and 'Despise' (demo of 'Purity'). And yeah the tracks 'Tattered & Torn', 'Frail Limb Nursery', and 'Purity' all connect and are almost like a mini 3-song experience in their own right.
I was hoping you'd do a reaction to these tracks. Great job as always. The sheer intensity of Get This never ceases to amaze me. I see that you're wearing red again to match the album cover!!!! ;)
Now, in the System of a Down self-titled, you should listen to the two songs that were in it (at least in the Japanese version.) Marmalade, and Storaged. They are not on Spotify because one is region locked, and another one is not on Spotify at all. So check it out on RUclips.
Well it would be good to check out them with Johnyy (Toxicity bonus track) and The Metro, Snowblind and Shame (covers guys did 99-00 years between albums)
@@mollyesanborn I replied to another comment of yours about the Slipknot demos/missed songs, and I can do the same for SOAD's. First, SOAD had a handful of songs that were not put onto America's Self-Titled release, and also a couple that didn't make it onto Toxicity or Steal This Album. Second, SOAD had a couple of cover songs that are also pretty good, but really don't feel like SOAD. You should consider doing a video where you listen to removed, previously unreleased, and demo tracks from bands you've heard before. I always love taking a deeper dive outside of the main discography of my favorite bands.
It would be crazy after seeing you do the ‘real’ slipknot albums to go right back to the beginning and do 1996/1997’s MFKR, their self released album of only 1000 copies, with a whole bunch of different members, including Anders on vocals and not Corey. Also there are early versions of songs you’ve heard on later albums. Cheers! Love your videos.
The great thing about physical media is the hidden tracks. Korn had them on the first couple albums, not necessarily songs but outtakes. Theres a really funny conversation/arguement between a man and his wife about car parts on one of the korn albums...(edit i just watched your korn videos lol)
Slipknot was definitely my favorite nu-metal act of the era, I must have seen them live 10 or 11 times but unfortunately their music and writing hasn't held up for me as I've gotten older. Purity is one of the exceptions though. It's just very well written and comes across as less angsty, less angry, haunting, somber, and more emotionally charged than their more surface-level material. Gently from Iowa falls into the same sort of category for me as Purity. Doesn't sound or play like a song written for the pit and comes out of their early work when they had two frontmen if I'm not mistaken. Glad you enjoyed the songs, I'd guess you'd like Iowa, I think that's their best foot forward in terms of what they were able to accomplish as both a band with a gimmick and serious musicians. Got kind of stale thereafter.
Gently was being conceptualized far before Slipknot was formed, or at least thats what I heard. Apparently, Shawn Crahan had the basis for that song in his head when he was in high school. A percussion-only version is on youtube, from when the band was playing in Paul Gray's basement. Look up Slipknot basement sessions and you'll find it.
I have both original versions of this record (normal release and digipak...and then all of the other versions of course and the picture disc record) with these tracks on it. Its still weird to listen to the version without Frail Limb Nursery. Purity is absolutley chilling. It is the only track on the record that Jim Root actually played on as well. The Despise demo for it is stunning and mega groovey. The drumming in the verse part is so crazy. It took me a while to learn to do it that's for sure! Joey was a genius. Get This is just sic.
Purity was such an awesome song. I had the original CD before Purity got banned. They used to play it every at single concert. Definitely the best track on the first album.
I guess on the UK release we didn't have Frail Limb Nursery, first time hearing that myself. The others I know though from my 1999 copy I still have, Get this always a fun track almost too fast to headbang too, almost
Molly there is also a hidden track on slipknot’s self titled called mudslide which when the song scissors ends there is a few minutes of silence until this track comes up and it’s an audio of basically the band making a band member chris fehn who is the one with the long Pinocchio looking nose mask, watch a scat porn and at first when they were watching they told him just pretend it’s pudding but then as the video goes along he couldn’t take it and starts vomiting and they start laughing at him.
Purity is the jam. The fact it got taken off the re-release sucked so bad but they got the rights back and it was such good news at the time, it was like the best sequence on the album into Liberate right after it. They released a third version of the album when it came back, a digipack. It broke the flow on the album when it got removed.
Sweet, glad you overall had a good time with the record!!! Looking forward to seeing you react to Iowa. Lots of Slipknot fans consider it their best album, but in reality, they’re all so different that the “best” is so subjective. But hey, love the content! Cheers!
There is still one more song from this album that you missed, it is called mudslide, which is a hidden track after scissors and before eeyore. If you react to that song, I recommend looking up what the audio is from after you’ve finished listening to it. :)
if you want more obscure slipknot I'd suggest checking out some of their demo songs, some songs I'd suggest checking out are Snap, interloper and despise
Would of love to see a reaction to the live version of purity Love how Corey ends the song with "have you ever seen god" Repeating it Over and over again From what I read it's about a girl who gets buried alive by a man Corey read that story Turns out it was just fiction but he still l Wanted to write the song about it ...and I believe Get this Is about how bands didn't want to tour with slipknot when they first started. A way to stick to them I think lol Either way awesome video as always Cheers 🤘
Pruity was the original song on the album till they replaced it by me inside on the album due to legal action an slipknot won there case an put the frail limb nursery an pruity on the 10th anniversary album
After the album's release, the band had to remove two tracks after allegations of copyright infringement. "Purity" and "Frail Limb Nursery" were inspired by a story, published online, about a girl named Purity Knight, who was kidnapped and buried alive.
I love the comparison between Purity and Despise since they're almost the same song just performed differently. Slipknot's Self-Titled is a very strange LP because there's sooooo many different versions of it due to the "purity creepypasta" author who accused Slipknot of using his art but it's not true because they wrote the song before the story was published when it was called Despise on their demo. You still need to listen to Despise and Snap from the Demo because the demo they came on was packaged with the Digipack and is on the 10th anniversary of the LP.
late night crew!! slipknot is the best band i’ve ever seen live by FAR. you still gotta check out their second album iowa. also corey has another band called “stone sour”. you should check out some of their albums too :)
Oh I'm absolutely doing an Iowa reaction! Really looking forward to hearing it. I'll have to check out Stone Sour too when I finish with Slipknot's albums.
Purity was definitely worth a listen. The other track was a bonus track on the original deluxe edition release and it definitely stands out as a bonus track, doesn't fit the feel of the album, and possibly why it wasn't inserted up the track list on the reissue. I recall Frail & Purity were removed because of a lawsuit, the lyrics were based on a real life event and the family took exception. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. But after that happened, the original releases were considered very rare for a long time and it wouldn't be odd to see the cds going for $100 in second hand record stores. I bought the original standard cd, then quickly returned it for the deluxe version...then it got recalled and I kinda wish I'd kept the standard edition and bought the deluxe outright....cool little collectors items. This era of music was rife with deluxe editions with bonus tracks, regional bonus tracks, or DVDs with 'the making of' docos in the studio etc...was cool but also a bit of a pain if you wanted to hear everything a band released.
Thanks for the explanation! It's too bad Frail Limb Nursery/Purity got pulled on the re-issue because they're phenomenal, they really add something to the album.
The story of purity was actually a work of fiction. There was a website created to make the story look real and Corey thought it was real when he wrote the song. Since the story was a work of fiction they could claim copyright infringement. If it was a true story it would have been fair game. Here is a break down of what happened. ruclips.net/video/rxdkn1VKyv8/видео.html
The story that they based their lyrics on was proven to be fake years later, that's why they published the song again, you can see that in a video of a RUclipsr called "Wang!"

@@mollyesanborn Also, A Perfect Circle's mer de noms and thirteenth step. idk if you know, but APC has the same singer of Tool. I think you would really enjoy it and id love to hear your thoughts.
Some dudes who were making a real life arg kinda like creating their own mystery pretending it was real tried to copyright slipknot because they sampled an audio file hence Frail Limb Nursery and the name of their main character a girl named Purity. The band thought the story was real so they didnt see the problem sampling that stuff.Thats why Frail Limb Nursery/Purity was separated from the album.. But Slipknot won at the end which is awesome cuz I love those two songs.
Slipknot's Self-titled album represents a lot of insanity. And this is definitely my favorite album of theirs. Iowa is my second favorite, this one represents a lot of hate. But to be honest, I love all the Slipknot albums, plus this is my favorite band.
I would love to see you review "Midian" by Cradle of Filth. I love that album and you haven't reviewed any British Black Metal yet. They are very gothic and theatrical. I think you'll like them. It's as if a coven of vampires decided to form a metal band.
Molly! You gotta check out An Autumn for Crippled Children - Try to Not Destroy Everything You Love. It’s such a unique album I dunno what to compare it to. The title track is like a rollercoaster ride, gives me goosebumps and a dopamine dump. I think you’d like it, you seem to appreciate this kinda music more than most. Rock on dude 🤘🫥🤘
Another great band I'd suggest (and one I wish was still around) is Primer 55. You might give their album "(the) New Release" a go if you haven't already. They were kind of unique and underrated in the sea of nu metal bands in my opinion.
Listen to the album Mushroomhead by well... the band Mushroomhead. Then just go through their discography from there. Some of the most unique nu metal and music in general I've ever heard.
"Purity" is where it's at. Easily one of my favorites from Slipknot. Similar to the commenter who mentioned Cradle of Filth, I'd also recommend Carach Angren's "Franckensteina Strataemontanus," especially if you're into classic movies and literature. It's basically the folklore surrounding the Frankenstein story told through pseudo-black metal. Think you might dig it if you're into that kind of thing.
Frail Limb nursery/into Purity was my favorite on this album. It was removed for legal reasons because this song is about a real crime. I don't think copyright was the legal reason.
Yeah, someone shared a link to a video explaining it really well. I guess the song is based on someone's fictional story, only the band thought it was a real event when they recorded Frail Limb Nursery/Purity.
Purity is truely a gem.
It really is.
Anyone who has a Slipknot cd Is a legend

"Me inside" is another track with a huge soaring chorus. Also, I believe it was the first song recorded with Corey.
i thought that was spit it out
I think Purity is the best song from Self-Titled, Sid's turntables and Corey's vocals are amazing.
Purity is my favorite slipknot song and favorite song ever. I'm so happy you listened to these extras.
Fun fact: Corey actually improvised the Purity part, 3:06
It's my opinion that the most important component to a successful metal band is a great drummer. RIP Joey Jordison.

The band thought the story was real so they didnt see the problem sampling that stuff.Thats why Frail Limb Nursery/Purity was separated from the album.. But Slipknot won at the end which is awesome cuz I love those two songs.
Thank you for that. I would like to see your reaction to one of the classic Black Metal albums from Mayhem - De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas.
You have to react the the sound of perservance by death
Remember slipknot just started their tour.
Awesome!
They're definitely on my list!
Cant wait for the IOWA review :D
Love that you love the NuMetal genre! My all time favorite 🖤 I would like to see you do reaction to iLL NiNo "Revolucion"
Slipknot's Self-titled album represents a lot of insanity. And this is definitely my favorite album of theirs. Iowa is my second favorite, this one represents a lot of hate. But to be honest, I love all the Slipknot albums, plus this is my favorite band.
Thornhill - The Dark Pool album reaction video is a must
I would love to see you review "Midian" by Cradle of Filth. I love that album and you haven't reviewed any British Black Metal yet. They are very gothic and theatrical. I think you'll like them. It's as if a coven of vampires decided to form a metal band.
Cool, thanks for the recommendation. I'll be sure to put in on my list!
Awesome! 😎
Their new album is out give it a go! :D
My reaction for The End, So Far will be up soon! :)
Get this is a masterpiece
Molly, you're a real G for posting these songs you missed.
❤️
I would love for you to react to "Macro" album by Jinjer.
Thanks for the recommendation Mark, I'll make sure that one is on my list! :)
My ex used to say I was weird because I made faces when I listened to metal...I said at least I feel something
3 songs have forgotten: Snap, Interlooper, Despise. :)
You know what would be sweet? A reaction to the new Ghost album, Impera. :)
I only remember Get Out 🤔. I’ve listened to this album a thousand damn times
But I do remember Interloper and Despise
"Purity" is where it's at. Easily one of my favorites from Slipknot.
Similar to the commenter who mentioned Cradle of Filth, I'd also recommend Carach Angren's "Franckensteina Strataemontanus," especially if you're into classic movies and literature. It's basically the folklore surrounding the Frankenstein story told through pseudo-black metal. Think you might dig it if you're into that kind of thing.
Ooh, sounds interesting! I'll be sure to put that album on my list :)
This song is about a girl in a box 1:23
The red hoodie looks comfy🖤 Anyways, when are you going to give Pantera a proper listen?
Pantera is definitely on my list!
we stan
Oh hell yeah, thanks!
I love your vids slipknot is my favorite band there definetly insresting
Frail Limb nursery/into Purity was my favorite on this album. It was removed for legal reasons because this song is about a real crime. I don't think copyright was the legal reason.
Yeah, someone shared a link to a video explaining it really well. I guess the song is based on someone's fictional story, only the band thought it was a real event when they recorded Frail Limb Nursery/Purity.
@@mollyesanborn I didn't know that. I thought it was a fatual story.
Here's the video they linked if you care to watch, it's really interesting!
