Thank you so much for this your time and effort has greatly improved my ride and my life. I have a 2008 Volvo XC 70 Japanese import V6. I just want to add. I used a plasterboard ceiling prop to hold up the tailgate, Place it in the middle and make sure it pushes the lid open as far as it goes. I had no resistance removing the two gas springs as when the tailgate is forced to max they just pop off and on with ease. (obviously loosening the spring loaded clips) Secondly I purchased the following BILSTEIN gas struts @t Dont purchase them from Amazon give an independent business your trade. These are half the price of Volvos, Just as good and you can trust them as Febi bilstein make very good gear. My car use to squeak like old floor boards when on anything other than perfect roads. Now its squeak free. Now when i open and close the boot its ghostly silent. Part number 36209 (This could be just UK or Europe though). They say Right side but that a pointless description as you just role them 180 degrees and they fit. So just purchase too of the same.
Hello Elma. Thats great to hear.I also reacted that the struts were for one side, when in reality it does not matter. I am glad you got your car free of squeak. Those sounds can make me crazy. Also, I mentioned maybe even in the video about pneumatic tailgate. Well I mixed 2 words and actually it should be hydrualic tailgate. Or electro-hydrualic. There were a swedish guy asking the same so understood my mistake. I did not know that Volvo had V6 engine. Does it give you a comfortable smooth ride? I have the 5 cylinder 2,5 litre 200hp turbo. Its surprisingly smooth compared to the previous 140hp version.
@@swedemake5571 Yes its butter smooth. I would not purchase any other. Its as quick as these old ladies can go with out turbos. Not a fan of turbos more to stop working when you need to get home. A V6 is one of the most balanced engines. I also would not touch a diesel especially for all the stop starts I have to do. I believe they also horseshoed the same engine in the xc 90 as well as a V8 later in the game. I need to do the brakes next. It sets off a lot faster then it stops. Just emailed EBC to see if they have anything. With this car I can fill with LPG now, an easy conversion on the petrol. 55p a instead of 120p a litre (UK) Its only a small 50 litre tank in the spare tire-well but it does me just fine as I live close to an LPG garage. I would like to find a much more powerful boot liner strut. the one that it comes with is fine for the normal boot floor but when you put the heavy rubber protective mat down it just wont hold up. Japanese imports are fab Zero rust at 12 years old, and I mean zero rust. Then I had it protected with Dinitrol its like a new car. It passed the 12 year MOT with zero advisories.
@@elmafudd9703 Hmmm, I do envy you. Mine is 5 cylinder turbo which response are as expexted. I was for sometime looking for the straight 6 engine, V6 is not available in Sweden. But it became the 5 cylinder with its flaws. Great that you can run on LPG. For us in Sweden its not the better option as there came a couple of years ago the requirement of a yearly extra car inspection for The LPG tank. And I think it also was that the tank required change after 10 years. ( my sister husband had a V70 2005 petrol/LPG. Mint condition. But it was not worth the change and noone wanted to buy it, so he scrapped it). Good to hear that its a beneficial addition in UK. Concerning your boot floor. See if you can get info on how many Newton the original have, and see if you can get one that are a bit above. Or..check on Aliexpress if you can buy like an additional strut to mount on the other side. ( I am preparing my sons scooter with extra features where on thing is a strut installed for the sadle to stay up. Hopefully strong enough to open by itself when pressing remote control). I guess you will change the brakes yourself? Its a pretty easy procedure.
Any advice most welcome re my questions. This is good stuff sir and I feel your pain as i have to hold the boot open with my head when using it. Thankyou for taking the time. May I ask you this, You say the car is not an electric opener. The boot closes when you press the button, the one located on the top right of the tailgate, you can see it on your video. it also opens when you hold the boot button on the key fob or near the drivers wheel so I can understand how the pneumatics will open the boot when this button is pressed but I am confused as to how it will close the boot when it is pressed if it is not electric? My car is a Volvo XC 70 2008 V6 petrol. I assume that these are the same as your vehicle. Also if I may be so bold, how much did the struts cost. I have seen them for sale for as little as 6 pounds ( I live i the UK) this seems worryingly cheap. finally did you find that as the units failed you developed a squeak/creak at the back of the car as this is what is happening with my vehicle and it is driving me insane as I can not be in the boot and drive at the same time to work out where the noise is coming from. Lastly I keep seeing people close the boot with the key, as you dis on your viseo my fob does not do this or I dont know what I am doing, do you have a close button on the fob? I converted my v6 to LPG, just wonderful will never go back I am now saving 65p per litre on fuel.
Hello Elma. What I mean is that in its way its electrical opening of tailgate. But the physical way when it opens is pneumatic. I believe Volvo changed that to an electric motor on later years. We should have the same vehicle type. The struts was ordered from Germany, like 35£ each. I did not want to buy too cheap ones. The squeak are commonly located in the lock mechanism on tailgate. I had that myself. Sprayed some grease and now its quiet. You do not have the feature of closing tailgate with remote. The reason I can, is that I have a Canbus Function Extender connected to my OBD port. It reprogram/enables the function (among with other cool stuff) option to close tailgate with remote. I have another video on that.

First one to comment :) Nice job,but lots of struggle :)) You remind me of me a month ago trying to take down the roof lining of the xc90 for it to be reupholstered. What is 2.5FT ????It’s new for me and never heard of this engine before.
Thanks. The struggle is the weight, not the job. 😂😂. 2.5 FT is Ethanol/Petrol. Its been around in Sweden since 2008, I think. Consumption is about 30% higher on ethanol than petrol so I for sure dont fill with ethanol.
Thank you sir, Just done my own after watching this. Have been holding up my boot with a paddle for two years. Gentleman!
