    Sharing an idea I use:
    Recycle your sand or whatever type of blasting material you use.
    When I sandblast something large outside, I setup a large tarp around it. A cheap tarp works. As you blast your item, the tarp will catch 90% (+or-) of your blasting material. Then you need a shop vac without a bag in it and which is empty with no trash in it. I vacuum up all the blasting material from the tarp. I then use a mesh screen filter inside the red funnel which came with the Harbor Freight sandblaster like you have. I pour the blasting material from my shop vac through the filtered funnel and back into the tank. It saves a bunch of money on buying the blasting material and the gas it takes to go get new blasting material, plus the time you're saving from not having to drive top the store for more blasting material!

    After using one of these for a few years, I moved over to using a poly wheel on an angle grinder, and a drill motor with a poly wheel, wire brush or scotchbrite/sandpaper, depending on the contour of the shape. These are a lot quicker, not as messy and cheaper. Occasionally I go back to the blaster for certain inaccessible surfaces only.

    I have the same blaster and they work well once you get them going. I made quite a few modifications on mine, i might make a video of it. Couple of things, get a full face respirator. you can get 3M ones on ebay from hong kong for less than $50, but it is important to reduce the risk of silicosis. That mask wont prevent you from breathing the fine air borne dust (and paint particles). Big compressor helps alot, i used 2 infact, 1 to charge the canister and another to run air through the hose... the one for the hose i used a 150ltr 3phase unit.. biggest problem was keeping up blast medium. Hopefully ill make a video and share it..

      Aaron James i got a harbor freight 40 lbs pressurized tank and the bottom hose keeps plugging. I switched out the ball valve at my hand and took out the o ring as i saw on a RUclips channel. But when i turn on air it works good for about 5 seconds then it Plugs. It’s not the elbow or the ball valve under the tank because when i take the clamp and hose off it blows. I take the hose and put air to the tip and it blows out a lot of media. It’s fine black beauty so it’s not to big. Any suggestions??

      Did you have any trouble with the bottom ball valve I wore a whole in it also

    • @bjputvain
      @bjputvain 5 лет назад +1

      4020jc i had same issue but what is going on is two things. Take the end nozzle off and replace with a deadman’s valve from HF like $10. The hose issue is yr adding to much media to fast. You will never have the valve at bottom of tank open 100% hell you won’t even get it 50%. Mine opens 15-40% and works good. Soon as i go over that instant plug. I’m also useing black diamond fine in red bag from tractor supply about $10 a bag. But just start with opening the valve very very slow to start with. Soon as you get the feel where it needs to be to operate perfect then replace the nozzle. Let me know how it goes for you.

    Turn those handles to the outside as they come that way only to save space in packaging. Get yourself a kid or helper to periodically shake the tub of the sandblaster and that is always helpful to prevent air flow clogs, as the media can pick up moisture and clog. A dead man's nozzle will help, as well and HF sells them, too. I have used the larger one from HF for years and was very happy with it in blasting my Model A frames over the years, I was stationed at 29 Palms, in the middle of the desert there and used my won sand and recycled it with a sieve to use. I also lay a cheap tarp down to use around the home, as it can mess up a yard and waste reusable media pretty quickly. Get some cheap ear plugs to protect your hearing and to keep that dust out of your ear canal as you use these units. This type of blaster will outdo any grinder on the market when used properly. I recently bought a larger one of these from HF, as well as the small plastic one and a handheld one. Each has a unique purpose and most of any complaints actually are user error from the reviews. I have not tried your mod on the tip, but it seems like it would work well. Have to consider that. That media is up to maybe $12 bucks at TSC now days and not $7-9 anymore. ;-( Soda blasting with these units is a pretty bad method, as that media is really a soft abrasive. Going to use my HF blasters on my 1925 Model T when I tear it all down. I rate them a bit higher than you do though, but we shall see. Thanks for the video.

    Love this and all the review & how to videos about sand/soda blasting. Gotta learn somewhere. But none have really gone into the actual pressure and/or CFM they use. My neighbor uses my compressor, 11.5 CFM @ 90 PSI. But has it set at almost max @ 150 PSI. I told him 90 to 100 PSI is all you need, but he insist 150 is the only way to go.
    I noticed at about 8 min. in it looks like you were set at about 90 to 100 PSI, (hard to see in video).
    I'm talking about body panels, not deep rusted chassis frames.

Also Ide = Put Down a large 3 Sided tarp To Reclaim Sand & Strain It Thru an Old Screen Door Screen. Repirators Are good bcz U Breath In Dust particulates & even Oil fumes From the compressor. When Ur Young & Strong It Don't Make a Difference but What U Put Into Ur Body Is what It Becomes = Toxic! to convert to a wet sand blaster you must first install a tee just before the nozzle add a ball valve and hook it up to you garden hose. Start blasting and slowly turn on the water until you get a 50-50 mixture of sand and water. the silca dust is then saturated with the water and becomes runoff.

      Tim's Automotive Garage I’m stripping my Porsche 993 down to bare metal since the shell is completely stripped since I plan to convert to a dedicated track car (it’s been resprayed previously and suffered micro-blisters from water in an air-line I guess 🙁). By far the worst part has been removing all the underseal which I used a combination of multi-tool, various wire wheels on the angle grinder and heat gun with sharp chisels... worked well but slooooowww. My aim was to tackle all the worst jobs first so I could follow the stripping with paint stripper first to remove the worst and then finish off with the sandblasted to get in all the hard to get areas. I worked on the front of the tub today and used a fine media with a 3mm tip. Went well but again slow... I could do with a bigger air receiver to keep the 20 gallon blaster above 100psi. Did clog several times. I actually purchased some tungsten tips which are far better than the white ceramic ones the blaster comes with. There is also a conversion kit you can buy to allow the use of Soda media (not purchased one yet but will do - there are some vids of the kit if you search). Any how today was the first time I’ve used a blaster and what a f’ing messy job it is 😂😂😂👍
