The Last Of Us HBO Series Description:
The Last of Us is an upcoming American post-apocalyptic drama television series created by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann for HBO. Based on the 2013 video game developed by Naughty Dog, the series follows Joel (Pedro Pascal), a smuggler tasked with escorting the teenage Ellie (Bella Ramsey) across a post-apocalyptic United States. It features Gabriel Luna as Joel's younger brother Tommy, Merle Dandridge as resistance leader Marlene, and Anna Torv as Joel's smuggler partner Tess.
The Last of Us, said to be the largest television production in Canadian history, was filmed in Alberta from July 2021 to June 2022. It is the first HBO series to be based on a video game, and is a joint production by Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions, Naughty Dog, the Mighty Mint and Word Games. The first season consists of nine episodes written by Druckmann, who wrote and co-directed the original game, and Mazin. Gustavo Santaolalla, who composed for the game, composed the score. The series is set to debut on January 15, 2023. It received acclaim from critics, who praised the performances, writing, production design, and score; several considered it the best live-action video game adaptation.

@@QuantumAscension1 considering how careless they are making noise and walking around talking and waving flashlights around at night. Is anyone surprised things don’t end well? Joel and Ellie rode into town on a horse like they owned the place. Not a care in the world. It’s one of the worst things about this show.

I thought it was rather poetic that despite Riley grasping Ellie's hand with her bitten hand, she grasped the hand of the arm Ellie was also bitten on. So, in a sense, it kinda deepened their bond (regardless that we knew Ellie survived). I just can't imagine the level of survivor's guilt Ellie had watching Riley turn after JUST revealing her love for her. 😔😢

Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey hardly had dialogue in this episode, but you felt the tension and panic without words being said in that room. Storm Reid and Bella Ramsey also had amazing chemistry, too. Let's all basically skip school in a post apocalyptic world.
I also love how at the end Ellie is nervous, but she's committed to help Joel get better no matter what by sewing his wound because she lost Riley and doesn't want to lose Joel next because he's the second person she loved since Riley. God the storytelling is fantastic.
It was so nice seeing Ellie happy 😢
Stormy has been great in the roles she’s been in so far.
I just remembered! Back in the Kansas City episode, Ellie told Joel that Brian guy wasn’t her first time killing someone. Maybe she DID have to shoot Riley??
I really liked this episode. Like they said inside the episode, they really did have her first date/love/kiss and the world taking that away. I can’t wait for the next episode. Ellie on her own and testing what she has learned from Joel.
Also the mall this was shot in is Northland Village Mall in Calgary. It is a failed mall thats been abandoned for years now so they used it for shooting :) I drive by it once a month when I visit my Dad in Calgary
I really love the reduction of the attacking infected. These two struggled hard with one, they would have been missin chunks with a horde.
I also noticed on rewatch that Ellie goes for body shots with the knife, and I think that really shows how complacent everyone in the QZ got. She says to Riley "I have to get up in a couple hours and do drills, you know where we learn to kill fireflies" makes me believe they weren't teaching them to kill the infected at all.
Another example is the fact there was one in the mall in the first place, the Fireflies felt so comfortable stationing a 16 year old in a mall that was rumored to be filled they didn't even do a walkthrough.
I love this show so much. I always look forward to your reactions because of your love of the game. I like to watch yours, then come back and watch again after I've watched all the blind reactors I got bookmarked. only 2 episodes left
Beautiful performances. Bella and storm's interpretations of the roles snd emotions were wonderful. I loved it. I love them book ending the present say with joel and ellie with her traumatic experience and what influences her decision

I'm so glad the way they did this. It was perfect to put Ellies bite story during the time she's taking care of Joel. Literally a masterpiece this show 😭
What people don't understand is that in the TV show, it has to make sense. You can't really have someone who has 12 bullets kill 25 people in a cramped room without getting detected. It's impossible. There are no stupid NPCs in tv shows. You can't have the character die 50 times because the FREAKING CONTROLLER WON'T LET ME DO WHAT I WANT AND F*CK I FORGOT TO RELOA___ AND I'M DEAD!" so yes, they have to make a charcter weaker than in video games because it has to be somewhat believeable. Someone who spent 20 years shooting and fighting will have a deaf ear, will have weak knees. Hell, I didn't even fight and my 48 year old ass is wear as hell LOL. People need to stop looking for things to nitpic and just enjoy the story for what it is

I'm loving this series. I haven't played the game yet, but I'm enjoying that i don't know what's coming. I also think the fungal infection is a brilliant twist on zombies.

Such an amazing episode. Love every bit of it! It made me think and talk about what we take for granted. My mom and I talked about, the video stores, the magazines of games that I still have. The joy on Ellie her face as she sees the wonders of the mall. Absoluty amazing, the connection between Riley and Ellie, and Ellie and Joel.
Listening to the podcast after watching the episode made me smile. This show is amazing. I love it so much❤️

Apparently this wasn’t shot in a mall. In the after show bit they said they built this whole set.
They shot in an abandoned mall. They just changed up a few things, decorated it appropriately and brought in the carousel

Everyone misunderstands. Ellie did not kill Riley because it’s in the title of the DLC, Left Behind. Ellie left Riley after her friend turned because she couldn’t kill her. However, in the show, Ellie mentions that killing Brian wasn’t her first is misleading that she had killed Riley; remember, Ellie only injured Brian, and Joel finished him off. Ellie didn’t kill anyone not infected yet. Both game and show left it up to us to decide if Ellie did or didn’t kill her best friend, and to my best guess is that Riley might had turned first and took off before Ellie found herself alone and was left behind.
Infected don't "take off" away from people. If not Riley, then which character would Ellie be talking about?
Imo, I think what the show is implying is that the first time Ellie has had to use a gun on someone is when she had to kill Riley. It makes sense to me as the show made it a point to give focus on Ellie’s gun usage. And the last moments with Riley was a closeup of the gun in her hand.
Finally, someone points out the Dawn of the Wolf poster - I had a whole arm spasm when I saw it, I couldn't contain the fangirling lmaooo it's the little details.
The brick f'ing master scene wasn't possible because the decommissioned mall didn't actually have a 2nd floor, that was all CGI, minus the escalator. Apparently the 2nd floor was one store or something with the escalator.
Don't need a second floor. The whole point of the game is to break the most windows. You can still do that, it's called aim

I love this episode I originally wished that they put in more Joel and Ellie scenes, but I feel like it was just so well portrayed. They didn’t even need words and you can already tell that they’re are already so invested in one another.
I was mad there was no water gun fight 🤣 but overall it was so good! I’m glad they got to actually have fun and that the stuff in the mall actually worked for the most part lol
Chronologically Left Behind would have taken place right where it did in the show because it shows her taking care of Joel after the stabbing. That's why they put it here.
The events depicted here took place before Joel and Ellie Met. That's why Ellie had the bite scar on her arm when she hooked up with Joel and Tess. Druckmann has inserted this here, for whatever reason. The DLC came out after the original Game was first released.
@@thrummer1953 if you played the DLC you would know that half of it takes place in the present and shows Ellie getting Joel to the house and then going to get the first aid kit to stitch him up. I've played all 3 multiple times. I'm aware of what transpires when. Thanks.

I feel like the label of girlfriend or not is relevant and not relevant all in one. Labels in this show play a big role, they matter and don't all in one, and it shows that in many ways. Tess and Joel not having a label of being a couple, but clearly caring enough about each other to be known as a team and sleeping in the same bed. Joel is taking on a paternal and protecter role, but blatantly saying ellie isn't his daughter, and he's not her dad. Yes, riley was a friend, but you can clearly see she meant the world to her whether the feelings were made known initally or not. I don't think it was a sudden realization in the store, it was more of a brimming glass situation. She had been acting out and isolating herself ever since Riley left, kwong even points it out. I also still presume that homophobia is rampant since we do see it in parts of the games, so being outward with each other about their feelings would also be incredibly hard like it already is. I mean they were flirting basically the whole time. Whether you put a label on it or not, they were together in what they thought was the end and it was fully romantic. If girlfriend doesn't work, maybe partner would be better. ♡

What I’m most curious of with the show, is if the “Joel in one” from part 2 will be retconned entirely. Probably not, but I go back and forth on why I think they might or why I think they absolutely won’t.

The handheld camera doesnt bother me one bit, especially when its not an action scene. It builds suspense plus realism and immersion. Breaking Bad filmed handheld but not every scene, just like not every scene in this show.

Bella Ramsey killed it in this episode. I love that they got a queer, trans person (Bella) to play one of the most iconic LGBTQIA+ characters in video game history (Ellie).

I'm having a theory about Joel...
SPOILERS for The Last of Us 2**
So I'm thinking Joel won't die the way he does in The Last of Us 2. It might be too hard to put that into the show because it was so traumatic for most of us. They are making people fall in love with Joel and are very invested. It angered a lot so they might not do that to the show viewers. People will HATE Abby. Players got to play as her and have a forced perspective for her and survive as her and viewers won't have that same forced connection. So I'm thinking they might make Joel sick and setting it up in this season for that to happen. If anything they might have him go into cardiac arrest while being captured. This way there is still a sort of blamed factor on Abby but not the complete as in the brutal attack she dished out. (It still hurts)
One of the things Part 2 was terrible at and what fueled fan hate is the structure of the game. We get so little time with Joel before he’s killed. The writers have changed things already and I hope that’s an indication that they’re looking at the feedback from the last game and making changes. I think if we get equal parts of Joel and Abby, we might actually be able to sympathize with her w/o it feeling forced.

I'm sorry but this show is amazing at Breaking the immersion and then I'm just left noticing everything wrong about how careless they act. First Ellie and her friend sneak out and are almost immediately seen by the patrol. 3 seconds later and 3 yards away they're already talking and not even sneaking around. Just casually walking.
Next they enter a building and start flailing flashlights around. no one will see it I guess. Again speaking in a normal voice not sneaking as if there's NO way anything or anyone can be in the building. Later again they're waving flashlights around literally shining it on a window which could be seen from outside. These cities are like way more inhabited than most zombie shows. Yet so uninhabited that they're never worried.
When they're on the rooftops you can see Soo many unnecessary random lights are On as well around town, but it's abandoned at the same time. They find a dead body which her friend literally admits wasn't there not long ago. YET they walk around and make so much noise as if No one or No infected can possibly be around the next corner right?

if the camera operators could just stop convulsing for 1 second i might be able to feel the emotions the "writers" were attempting to illicit from the viewers. to all future film makers.. 1.don't use an ai generated script like these "writers" did / 2.try not shaking like Michael J Fox while you're holding a camera. follow those 2 simple steps and no matter what you make it will rival this show by far.
