💑 About Hercules Candy
Hercules Candy has been on Steve’s side of the family since 1910(ish). When he took over in the 70’s, he anticipated after 10 years of hard work, he could move the business out of the basement and into a real storefront. Unfortunately, it took until 2018 for that to happen, but hey at least it happened! Steve and Terry own the shop, Craig (the social media manager) is their son, Cara (wrapper and shipper extraordinaire who is poised to take over the shop one day) is their daughter and Leah (who doesn’t love being on camera and is very elusive) is their oldest daughter. Karen has been working for Hercules Candy since the twins (Craig and Cara) were about 6 months old and everybody else is a new recruit. Don’t forget to subscribe and hit the 🔔 for more videos!

I started watching this channel when it was just Steve & Terry working in their basement. It's crazy to think how much it's grown and changed. Thanks for bringing us with you all xxx
With all the new stuff lately, i've been thinking about the basement a lot. Major changes, quite different from a stove, a marble table, Lucy & Ethel, & a starch closet (too small to be called a room 😆) you have to duck to get into. I just wish Max was around to go through it with them, i miss him. So happy for them. They're gonna have to start looking for more space soon. 😆
Thanks for supporting us through all of the changes!
same
I have watched from that era aswell. Great channel, and amazing sweets.
I too having been following since the basement days. Moving the table was amazing. This new machine with the different cams will definitely be interesting. Love some lemon , orange and raspberry drops.
I love seeing two master candy makers working together
There is a company in Europe that makes both hand cranked candy machines and the shape rollers, they will make the rollers to custom shapes.
Please tell me Where to buy the roller machine.
I will appreciate this information also. Thanks.
Im 71 yrs young. My little town had a candy shop. When I was good or special occasions, my grandfather would take me to the candy shop. They used these old machines to make candy, id watch with joy, glee and plenty of questions. Old Joe was so kind, hed answer questions, take me around and showed me how everything worked. He was a friend of the family, and i always got excited going to his shop. Wondeful memories
Seeing and hearing the excitement at the changes and upgrades is so great to see. Congratulations on your continued growth Hercules. Been a fan of you all since the basement days and it's been pure enjoyment. (Julia is a really great addition to the candy fam, great personality!!) ❤😊🤗🍫🍭🍬
Thanks so much! It's so fun to use all this new stuff too! And we love Julia 🥰
@@HerculesCandy love watching and seeing how you have grown and learned with varying ages of technology
This is fabulous! I want to see lots more of the dropping of the candy and watching it break apart!
The old candy shop in my Nana's town Sanborn's Candies closed just after the pandemic, and damn what a loss - I wish I had hung around to check out how they made their ribbon candy. You had to order the stuff around Halloween to have it before Christmas it was so , and it was impossibly thin, melted away in your mouth. Thank you for keeping these tools and methods alive!
Came for the super exciting upgrades, stayed for the energy, cooperation and camaraderie. Warms my heart watching you all interact.
Yall need a bigger Building Considering the fact you keep adding more machinery
You got one you can drop off?
They are good at Tetris, they will be fine
Hercules candy factory?!?
A bigger building means they need more money
Yes they would have more room To keep everything more spread out and easier to work around.
Maybe, just maybe…..you’ve demonstrated why modern jobs are so soul-searing. You’re working cooperatively (not in ratings conflict/goal striving) against each other.
You all share not just the work but the discussion of ways to make changes and create new products.
Y’all add all the rest of the advantages….. 😊
Wow, all these new employees! Things really growing at Hercules.
🤣
THAT is the Old School way that general stores used to make hard candies...
Great to see you keeping the standards!
Love seeing antique tools still doing what they were made to do. In today’s built in failures forcing you to keep buying new, makes me think there is a market opportunity for someone
You are viewing it in the wrong way. This stuff is commercial culinary equipment. Unless you are buying the cheapest stuff around, commerical culinary equipment doesn't break/fail like consumer stuff. It's a tool to make money, as such, it has to be reliable. It has to be designed to run for at least 12 hours straight, 5 days a week for years. Stuff that breaks at the rate of consumer stuff wouldn't be around for long, as it doesn't make sense for any business to use it in the long term. Even if you get it for cheap, the down time will lose you more money than you saved.
There's a reason why brand new commercial culinary equipment is fairly expensive, it's made to be reliable and recoup investment fairly quick. For example, the ovens you see in convenience stores for toasted subs are basically industrial air fryers with a large stone/ceramic plate in them. But, they start out at around $8k and go up to $25k. Completely worth the money for a business that will use it. You should be able to break even in around a year unless, for some reason, you can't generate the customer flow.
"...today’s built in failures forcing you to keep buying new..."
That's called planned obsolescence, just for reference.
It's great seeing Cara do more candy making. Julia is fun to watch too. The new "old" machine is amazing!
I think making transparent candy with opaque core with the ball mould would look like marbles.
That does sound really cool!
It does sound really cool but you might want to be careful about making a candy that looks like marbles as children might get confused and eat a bunch of marbles thinking that it’s candy 🍭
@@lynngoett488Maybe be worried about actual candy that is sold everyday that looks like pills. You're not worried kids will see pills and think they're candy?
@@montialarsonthis is why there are laws in many countries about what pills can look like.
Dropping the sheets and strings of hard candy is so satisfying!!!
More of that please!!!! 🙏🎞️🤩
Hi Folks! It’s been a while! Can’t believe all the changes and new people! Glad to see Craig fit and healthy. So happy that a great bunch of people are still having fun doing what they love. If any viewers are ever in Syracuse, this is a must see.
Thanks Jane! Hope you can visit again soon!
The hand crank machine reminds me of the one Greg from Lofty Pursuits has! Congrats on getting a cool machine! Greg has a whole WALL full of different pieces for this machine. It's awesome to look at. :)
I'll have to try to find the video with that wall!
@@HerculesCandy ruclips.net/video/sd90XCvpO1k/видео.html
Honestly, im surprised nobody has stolen them just for the heck of it. They keep them out front, easily snatchable. I dont trust people enough for that lol. I would keep them locked up😂
@@HerculesCandyI think he scans over the tool wall in vlog #38 Victorian Candy Making at Lofty Pursuits.
Thanks for acquiring these old school tools as they become available and giving them a new and continued life. It's fun to continue to enjoy both the robust tools and the unique candies.
LOVING the new equipment/process! Still can't wait to see progression with pulling hard candy with the "taffy puller"!
We'll see about the taffy puller 😂
@@HerculesCandy do it
With all the new machines they can make more candy faster! Far from old days in basement !
But Steve still makes his hand covered chocolates so fast and perfect! A master candy maker ! He enjoys doing it by hand too! Used to sit and watch tv while he worked ! Definitely a pro! I could watch him all day!
I make armour for a living and my oldest tool is a 17th Century Anvil stake. The majority of my tools are early 19th century.
Sometimes I swear it is the ghosts of the previous owners who help me find solutions to the many technical dilemmas.
When I first started making armour (last century) I was very precious about marking or scratching these irreplaceable antiques, but now I think differently, I figured I will happily add my story to them.
Rather like the old saying 'A face without wrinkles is a book without words!' That's how I sleep at night anyway! 😉👍😂🤣😂
Best wishes to you all, great to see hand-made stuff still being cranked-out. 🇬🇧⚒️🇺🇲
Seeing everybody folding ribbon reminds me of watching the old basement days at around thanksgiving when you guys would fold ribbon for HOURS.
This way so much fun. I was looking forward to this video after I saw the delivery. The excitement to experiment and Scott you can make some extra hours on making hard candy and ribbon candy if you want to. You got it really good for a first timer. 😉😁 It’s nice to see two die-hard candy makers and see the difference how they work. ❤
I love how close the candy making community is! Fun to hear the Wyoming accents again. Makes me miss my Western family.
I know Steve has talked for years about wanting a machine like that I'm happy for them that he is getting everything that he has been talking about and couldn't afford when he was in the basement
My dad used to tell stories of the summer he worked at See's candy in San Francisco. He said he was the buffest guy in school that year. He even had his own candy pulling hook. He would get in the mood once in a while and make us some pretty good candies. Especially See's fudge! I wish I had some now!
Man you guys should get an artist to paint murals on your walls of different candy and also paint the walls different colors because all that white is overwhelming , having a bit of color would make the shop look like a candy shop and less like a hospital Operating Room.
I’m so glad that machinery found a good home!
We are, too!
Julia is a PRO now!💯
She learned from the very BEST: Quick-Steve & Hulk-Smash-Terry!🤭🥰💖
From first seeing these at restoration channels to seeing an active candy maker use them. ❤ love when retro tech gets another life
So awesome to watch Hercules Candy grow through the years. From your small ass basement with just your mom and dad to this huge production with massive success. I've been honored to watch you thrive guys and look forward to seeing you grow even further!
Congratulations! Seeing how you're going to be able to save batches, and try new things! Also love seeing the masters talking is great!
Just watching everyone having a great time connecting and learning adds so many years to my life 💜🌈
How exciting!!!! New equipment!!! And candy makers sharing their wisdom! Loved it!!! 🙌🏼🌟✨⭐️🤍
I've always wondered about the spacing of the bars. Now I know the spacing is all about regulating the temperature of the candy and not just keeping it contained on the table.
I remember when you got the 1st enrober, moved to the new location but I think its my favorite seeing you getting this old candy making equipment .. hope you have a heart mold seen people make cinnamon hearts with those before !!
I’m so pumped for you guys! Can’t wait to see what you make with the new equipment
This has been a delightful video to watch! Love the interaction. Love the fellowship. Love watching the excitement of new possibilities percolating in Steve's head. A prime meeting of two true candy craftsmen. Excellent video! Thank you so much for sharing it with 'us'. God Bless
❤ My thoughts exactly! 🍭🍬🍫
I really loved this video! Steve is so happy! ❤
Coming to your shop and meeting everyone one day is on my bucket list of before I stop. I love watching you all and feeling the comraderie. My gramma made hard candy and rock candy for us as kids. We were a large family and farmed our foods, so store bought was a real treat. I think hers was better than a lot of the mass machine produced stuff. :)
I Love the enthusiasm of everyone just showing their love for this.
Now I know why the candy store was always the warmest place to be during the holidays.
Love seeing the passing of knowledge!! And the machinery! What fun!!
Watching the candy go through all the handcrank machinery to make the candy pieces reminds me of those penny machines that you would see at zoos or museums to flatten a penny with an image on it😃 So COOL!!👍♥️
The ones that only take quarters now? 😄
I don’t know what it is about this channel but my god I love it. I’m a lumberjack by day and a candy learner by night 😂. Come home and instantly sit down and watch this. It’s just soothing seeing everything go through the process.
I love this! The team work, the experience, the fun of it all. I enjoyed watching this video very much. I’ve been watching for years! Even though I miss the house environment, it’s awesome seeing you guys expand & build on to the legacy 🥰 ❤️ 🍬 🍭
vintage candy machines are a work of art , wow... great video as always 👍
James Halliday was a master at his craft. First it was game design, now it's candy making.
love seeing new stuff. I think this is going to give you guys more options and maybe be able to just make more candy in bigger batches , keep up the great work and its nice seeing other candy maker helping other candy maker .
Cara just is amazing! She manages to do everything! Such a fast learner !!
So crazy I went from watching you all making small batch candy in your basement with the hook on the wall and the throwing chocolate covered candy WITHOUT MISSING! Man I’m glad you all have come so far you people deserve it god bless you all I hope the best for your family
You almost need two camera people now!!😂❤ i love how much you guys are growing and all the new equipment is awesome!
Love seeing the old equipment and how it operates. And especially love seeing it used in modern business today. I want one of those drop rollers so bad but they are really expensive now online. Would love to find one cheaper somewhere
How exciting -congrats with the «new» equipment 😊
Cool to watch everyone learn a new way of making candy shapes and equipment
This is so awesome to see all the work you guys have put in with the new machines coming into fruition! Congrats and thanks for the cool content.
This looks like so much fun. What a great group of people.
that candy cutter roller thing is so satisfying and its great that you guys finally got one
SO GLAD THAT IS UP AND RUNNING .. LOOKS AMAZING
So excited for this
Us too!
Its so nice to see you guys get your hands on some "new" equipment! While doing hard candy with the clamp press isnt technically "hard", that new machine seems like it will help you turn out batches much faster and easier! Im sure those addicted to your sour candies will be elated lol!
And with all sorts of different shapes!
That was so fun to watch! Thank you for sharing. I can’t wait to see all the different shapes the hard candy machine can make.
How cool to watch all of this. Everyone is going to enjoy making candy with the new machines.
This was so fun to watch.
Thanks for sharing.
so happy to see this upgrade making your lives so much easier :)
Wow! You can already see how much time is saved by using those new tools! Also there is so much less waste where you couldn't use the candy nob of the end of a batch, the production speed is quite improved :o
It's nice seeing Cara making candy with Steve.
I love the new machines, it looks like you all will have fun
When you produce, it goes so much faster with the new equipment, so fun to watch.
I look forward to the continuation 🙂 you are really talented, creative and such nice😊
Greetings from Norway🇧🇻
that is an old fashioned mangler emphasize safety, when she reached around the roller with the big gloves my heart dropped.
I love watching the new toys, pretty cool. Congratulations to you all!
This so awesome. Loved watching all of you have so much fun learning new equipment and techniques. Can't wait for more. 💚
Awesome!!! Glad to see this new old school equipment. Need another kettle burner now to keep the candy cranking out with the new time savings in pulling and cutting.
Happy for you guys 👍🏼
I have passed up many videos of yours, time wise other factors, not you. But this one grabbed my eye, I loved the candy making in every video. Things back then were built to last like miro cookie press! thank you for your old school candy making. I must visit!
So interesting to watch and learn!! Thank you for including all of us on the “how to video.” Again, really enjoyed it!
Love this! I love the hand crank shapers!
Been watching since ya'll were in your basement! I'm super glad to see how well you've been doing and I wish ya'll luck! Your new employees too!
I want to crank it!! Looks like fun. You guys always look like you're having fun. I know it's hard work.
It is so interesting watching your videos n how candy is made. Thank you for sharing the process with us!
Very fun seeing “new” techniques for candy-making.
Really neat equipment, looks like you had fun learning.
I enjoy watching you all work together and seeing the delicious candy you make. When I first saw the yellow and white candy coming out of the rollers it looked like corn kernels and I thought "Yum! They're making popcorn flavored candy!" The lemon looks tasty though. Maybe you can do your spice flavored candy in all shapes. It is my favorite and I haven't found it anywhere else. Other places have said they had it but the flavor just isn't the same. Have fun with your new toys!
The new shapes n the attachments are really cool looking.
Seeing the new machinery was very interesting!
Oooohhh yessss bring on the mesmerizing videos with the cutter and hard candy press! And the drop!! 🧡
Got our order of Cookie Cremes, Smores Bark, and Peanut Butter Cookie Bark in!!! I haven't ordered in a couple years. I forgot how GOOOOOOD y'all make everything
My friend who has a candy shop has the die with the peanut and other “nut” shapes and he always used it to make maple syrup flavored candies called it a “maple nuts” shape.
As a culinary school student its interesting to see how a candy making kitchen differs from a restaurant one
Y’all should do a red white and blue ribbon candy for Independence Day.
Very cool! Can't wait to see all the other shapes! I wanted a piece of candy so badly watching this! 🍬🤣
I'm finally coming to visit the shop in July! Sooo excited.
You had vice grips on hand, i am impressed!!!! Just found this channel and absolutely loving it! Such an amazing atmosphere in your workspace! Ty for the content, can’t wait to see more :)
I love it when the shop gets new toys! 🙂
EXCITED!!! GREAT CONTENT!!! I LOVE TO SEE YOU EXCITED AND INSPIRED!!!
Love how you guys are starting to implement some of the methods and tools from the Japanese candy maker! Can't wait till you have your own monthly candy box subscription worldwide!
In the olden days sweets or candy used to be called drops. In the UK we still call sweets sucked for a sore throat, cough drops.
Well that was certainly a work for you Steve. I love seeing these old candy rollers being used. Love all the different designs on the rollers.
Just wanted to say Ive ordred $200 worth of candy from you guys in the last week! Lol! The chocolate covered gummy bears are so darn good, and your packaging is top notch, best ive ever seen. Keep on keeping on Hercules candy!
Loved this video! I’m so happy for you!❤❤
Retro is fantastic! So cool watching that!😊
You guys!!! I can't even with all this new equipment! It's almost more exciting that when you shifted the marble from the basement!
