Ali He does nearly all of the riffing and basic track foundations. Brann and him. Brent comes in at the end and leads over the vocals to tie it all together. Team effort.
What are you talking about?Their vocals on this video are really good.Brent Hinds has said many times before that he would rather play perfectly than sing perfectly.Lately he has gotten loads better live because he took some vocal lessons which really helped him out.Troy has always done good live and now that Brann is starting to do vocals he is pretty spot on too.Bill has some badass growls but only does them on Remission songs sadly.
Producer: "Where does a drum set sound at its worse?" Sound Engineer: "In corners. Also Glass and other shiny surfaces dont help." Producer: "Ok....Put the kit in the corner"
Playing a middle of the day TV show while on tour when you're used to sleeping at that time can be rough on the vocal chords. Neither Judas Priest nor Iron Maiden have ever had to do that. Also you're talking about bands that have dedicated singers; Mastodon does not. The band has never been about the vocals anyway.
Because who ever records and post these videos always has lousy sound and blames the singers for the terrible recording. Some how in these videos, Brann Dailor always sounds like he's too tired to sing or his mic isn't turned up and he really has to strain to sing. That's why he sounds lousy in most of these recorded videos.
in fairness to them, you can't do much to this song, i love it but would prob just stand there trying to take it all in, its such an atmospheric, epic song!
and also, who knows? it could just be that i'm not a person who knows much about the fundamentals of music, so it might just be that i can't tell. however i view the live shows, it still stands that i love everything they have put out since the lifesblood ep to the new hunter album, and pretty much no matter what they come out with, i'll be buying it (so long as they don't go the way of metallica with the lulu album.... nausea has set in)
Mastodon will make more history in heavy metal than slayer. These guys are getting better and better. i love that Randy Rhoads guitar style drum kit :)
This song is so amazing, it's hard to comprehend... No, screw that! This band is so amazing that it's hard to comprehend! I absolutely love and adore and admire every single album, ep and song these dudes, that is Mastodon have put out! This band have a special place in my heart, and I can't wait to see what they are going to put out next: Mastodon seems only to be only cabable off putting amazing music out on the world, and yet each album gets better than the last, they all stands as equals...
@socialgrudge you might as well try listening to all of their albums. Each album covers so many different sounds its amazing, and its not like itll take up that much time. You never know
mastodon speaks to people that want their metal fresh, raw, and real. not that shitty "in it for the money, and popularity" bands that flood the earth today.
im sure the crowd would have gone crazy during the performance just telling by there apluade at the end but i doubt the tv producers and such would let them because it on a live tv show.
i just mean that on the albums it's a hell of a lot cleaner sounding (for obvious reasons, you can't really mix live shows like you can an album) while i agree that troy is amazing at the deeper growls, i'm not sure i can say the same for brint, i do like brint's voice, but you know that if you showed this to anyone who isn't fan of mastodon, they would most likely say it sounds like drunken screaming. that's just an opinion though
ok...i hate to be the one guy to say it, but you all HAVE to notice that they aren't great live, the vocals are pretty bad bad. but with that said, i'd still pay good money to go see them live, i friggin love mastodon, they are one of the few original sounding bands out there, also love the fact that they have no front man. i also think that the guitar/bass/drums is GREAT live, so that'd make it worth going, also, troy sanders' vocals are pretty damn good live, basically, worth a $75 ticket
such fine players & interesting writers, but they need a consultant to change them into what they could be...I know they're an insular band that DIY's the smallest detail but for a group that has such a slick album art production their own image needs to be just as interesting and hopefully they can get a mystique together...dressing for the garage bar just ain't gonna' get it.
Im not sure why, but I listen to all styles of Rock/Metal, but I just cant seem to get with this group. They are all very talented, but I dont know what it is, but, Its not for me.. Yes Ive tried some other songs from them, but... Nah....
Didn't know bill made that opening guitar riff, god damn thats a beautiful riff-
Ali He does nearly all of the riffing and basic track foundations. Brann and him. Brent comes in at the end and leads over the vocals to tie it all together. Team effort.
That's not true at all
my logic is: if u can imagine how its played on a guitar - its a bill riff
Bill should play leads more often ❤
I highly agree
2:47 Probably the best piece of music Bill ever wrote.

god damn..... 10 years ive been listening to these guys? has it really been that long? FUCK
+Justin Dusza It's only been a year for me
Justin Dusza right?! I still cant believe Blood Mountain is 11 now. it was just yesterday
@@theNickRYG 5 years later! This video changed my life when blood mountain first came out, unreal! 2006 was so long ago now!
I have a man crush on Brann Dailor
+Will Mask who doesn't
Will Mask And then you heard his vocals in Roots Remain and asked him to marry you. I get it, make lots of babies!
I wish I could play drums like him
I can't understand why people bitch about vocals... it's fucking metal!
GoofCoreRecords tell that to judas priest and iron maiden. Apparently they're taking vocals too seriously for metal

nice
Megadeth...

I'll never forget the day I watched tv show, I still remember it was on a channel
in fairness to them, you can't do much to this song, i love it but would prob just stand there trying to take it all in, its such an atmospheric, epic song!
This is my favorite Mastodon Song..Hands down.
I love "tv show"!!! 😍😍
Human Giant?
easily one of my favourite Mastodon songs
Audience doesn't quite yet realize their watching the greatest, and last supergroup they'll ever see. SHAAAAAAAAAAME.
Mastodon has always been hit and miss with their live performances. This one...eh, I love em anyway!
The dude standing in front with the Caustic Christ shirt totally gets it
When the fuck was Mastodon on Total Request Live with Carson Daly?😅😂
First time Human Giant has lived up to its name.
The dude with the flying V Looks like the biker bounty hunter from raising Arizona...
This song is fucking magnificent.
I thought Brent did pretty well on this performance.
this song makes me sleepy, in a good way.
and also, who knows? it could just be that i'm not a person who knows much about the fundamentals of music, so it might just be that i can't tell. however i view the live shows, it still stands that i love everything they have put out since the lifesblood ep to the new hunter album, and pretty much no matter what they come out with, i'll be buying it (so long as they don't go the way of metallica with the lulu album.... nausea has set in)

How’s that working out for ya now in 2023?…. Lol. Great band but not even close to being iconic like SLAYER will always be.
The bass in tandem with the opening riff sounds like a cloud is emerging from the amp
I FRIGGIN LOVE MASTODON!!! YEAH BABY!
i like how this has 0 dislikes :D
it's my favorite song.
This song is so amazing, it's hard to comprehend...

9 years later and this still holds!
11 years later and this still holds!
someone in the comments suggested this wasn't a good live performance. were they listening to the same video as me?
seeing this video in 2006 changed my life!!
He does the solo for Black Tongue... Well, mostly.
@socialgrudge you might as well try listening to all of their albums. Each album covers so many different sounds its amazing, and its not like itll take up that much time. You never know

check out curl of the burl on Letterman, epic!
i love this song because it reminds me so much of TOOL
Nothing about this song is like Tool.
@@Bogeyman19DidNotScareMyAssthat is false, there are many elements of tool in this song. Are your ears okay?
I fucking love this song!!!!
so amazing
i wonder if they seen all the Human Giant promo shit and said "haha lets fuckin play Sleeping Giant."
awsome song
Perfect!
Yup, this is actually the live performance of Mastodon with Sleeping Giant during the Human Giant 24-hour takeover special.
i thought they only played colony of birchmen live at the mtv awards, this is sweet! \m/
This is from a show called human giant awesome show btw
The crowd doesnt look excited. Their just standing there.
masters
that bill solo though
they're all playing silverbursts except Brann doesn't have silverburst drums.
Yes, but Brann plays Tama's Randy Rhodes kit! I never knew something like that existed, tbh.
custom...
In fact, Bill is playing a goldburst guitar.
Well, hello 2020 recommendation...
@DarthSivius Its OK. His monstrous beard is more than compensation for all those setbacks :P
im sure the crowd would have gone crazy during the performance just telling by there apluade at the end but i doubt the tv producers and such would let them because it on a live tv show.
Wow. Bill getting a lead.
@MrExplorerman101 ya dude that lead is fucking pro
pre head tattoo.
no he has the head tat here
i didnt see it, i see it now. oh well
yeah but bill doesn't have the stache
This sounds like I'm listening to another band cover this song..........wut o.O
You came at 1:10?! At least have the common decency to try and hold it 'til 3:20.
awww too bad the part with human giant in the beginning got cut.
1:57 Easy Chewy
Brent had a serious throat infection right after this album came out.
what show was that??
@letsmakepancakes3 What is human giant?
i just mean that on the albums it's a hell of a lot cleaner sounding (for obvious reasons, you can't really mix live shows like you can an album) while i agree that troy is amazing at the deeper growls, i'm not sure i can say the same for brint, i do like brint's voice, but you know that if you showed this to anyone who isn't fan of mastodon, they would most likely say it sounds like drunken screaming. that's just an opinion though
Chills at 3:50.
Human Giant
they plays 1 song on this show?
the crowd looks like they dont know what the hell to think of what there hearing, wish ida been there..
@king7299 haha, lol :p
I sometimes wonder if Troy feels a bit left out 'cause his name doesn't start with a B x)
brent...brent
2:15 better than the album !!
@Raro404 lol :p
Sounds like Earth
TRL studio

ok ok, my bad, so i spelled it wrong, please forgive me. names aren't exactly consistent when it comes to spelling though, in my defense, lol.
for it sound a little better **
@akathasamurai haha i posted it
argghhh why isn't this video in sync?
@letsmakepancakes3 nevermind I just saw the video.
..or you could just like the video
...brint is the dude with the jew fro and the face tattoos
(sorry for my shitty english ... i am brazilian) brent uses *
randy rhoads drum lol
they have never pulled off this song well live
They played it great here
The instruments are fine. The vox are ass. Brent sounds awesome on the Blood Mountain CD. He and Troy are awful here
But the crowd is fucking dead.
billyjoelsux do you play guitar and if yes have you ever tried singing at the same time its hard
Not true I've seen it
such fine players & interesting writers, but they need a consultant to change them into what they could be...I know they're an insular band that DIY's the smallest detail but for a group that has such a slick album art production their own image needs to be just as interesting and hopefully they can get a mystique together...dressing for the garage bar just ain't gonna' get it.
who tah fuck is brint
Audience sucked.
leave drugs...you will feel the same while listening to this song but drugs are bad =/
Im not sure why, but I listen to all styles of Rock/Metal, but I just cant seem to get with this group. They are all very talented, but I dont know what it is, but, Its not for me.. Yes Ive tried some other songs from them, but... Nah....
well, besides the point. i genuinely hate rappers.
I cant think of why you wasted your time to post this.
The most overrated band i have seen!!!
how come?
thats metallica
Metallica to!!!
May be a mainstream band, but not overrated.
Fuck You
