If you set the hot keys for 75% and 50% thrust you can avoid the over shoot of a planet and the being forced out of cruise because you are going to fast when you reach the OC mark on your altimeter. When approaching a planet or space station press the 75% hotkey when your arrival time drops to seven seconds. Then when your distance drops to .5 Ls press the 50% hotkey and aim just below the horizon of the the planet and you can transition smoothly down to about 2500 meters of elevation before you drop out of glide mode.
