Inserting VCD into PlayStation 2

- I got curious, and tried putting VCD in my PS2 Slim. Not sure why, but it detects it as PS2 disk (and a blue one too!*), and then loops on RSOD.
FYI, I have a modchip installed, so maybe that has something to do with that.
0:22 VCD is put into console, and console is reset.
0:54 VCD removed from the console to get into dashboard, trying to launch it from browse menu.
1:58 Putting normal PS2 game disk
*I was informed that Blue PS2 disks are actually CDs, so it makes sense that it would detect VCD as a blue disk.
In a dream I had, the RSOD was looping just like that. But the more it looped, the brighter it got. Then finally, it had a self-destruct mode and my whole family including me and my pets escaped the house before it exploded.
Cuz you need to turn off it
Did you make it out alive?
POWER OFF THE GAME AND DESTROY THE GAME DISK. it probably self destructed because it thought it was pirated or something.
I’m answering all of the question, yes I made it alive. No I couldn’t turn it off, and it might’ve actually been a secret bomb. That was a life changing nightmare. If that actually happened not in a dream, the Sony PlayStation 2 would’ve been recalled.
That RSOD always scares the hell out of me and that was my nightmare when I was sleeping
The red screen of death part is nostalgic
I remember watching a video that was called RSOD sound edit
Please insert- NOPE!
PlayStation or PlayStation 2 format disc.
@@DeadPool-gj4dx 1:09 *(more looping again)*
I'm guessing that your modchipped console is made so that it'll force read any CDs as PS2 games. And it's trying to force itself to read the VCD, but because there's no actual PS2 related data it gets confused and tries to pull up the RSOD while continuously stopping itself because it still thinks it's a game.
Does the same behavior occur when putting in Audio CDs or maybe even PS1 discs or burned PS1 games?
no, CDA and PS1 games work fine
@@hikkamoriibecause it DOES recognise them but it doesn’t know what this is so it tries to boot it as a PS2 game
It's a very interesting principle. Let's not forget that the PS1 also does something similar when it reads discs that don't contain PS1 data (like a PC game), thus leading to either Personified Fear or Fearful Harmony in early PS1 models
On my PS2 FAT, RSOD doesn't loop when I insert the vcd
does it work tho
if it works, then wow
At least one of my chipped consoles (scph-50000) does this too while vanilla ones say “disc read error”.
Yep, makes sense
I've never seen the RSoD loop like that
My ps2 also have this looping rsod! But earlier, anything been normal.
you know something is wrong when a video format (which btw, should show up as a DVD/CD as it can detect and play them) shows up as a PS2 GAME
also what games are blue, and also it detects if its blue or a normal disk
@@liamdelaportilla9042 The blue PS2 games are pressed on CDs, normal ones are DVDs.
Pro Action Replay "Sorry, I can't use this PS2 machine. Please solve it on your own."
Did you try to double-click on the reset button before using the VCD? in my experience, the modchip that I got does this to switch between PS2 and PS1/DVD modes
I had modbo 4.0, it doesn't have this limitation.
@@hikkamorii huh...
I see
I remember having blue screen instead or its just me
Nah
@@parappafan2010 honestly must be the modchip on the PS2 that makes it
ohhhh interesting the PS2 sample video incredible recording 🤩

You still refuse to put in a Playstation or Playstation 2 format disc? Abandon all hope, you who enter here!
I don’t like being that guy, but-what’s a VCD?
it stands for Video Compact Disc, old video disk format conceived in 1993. In the west it didn't get much traction because VHS tapes were good enough, while VCDs weren't better, and usually were worse quality. Most DVD and BD players however are able to play them, that's why it was interesting to see whether PS2 could read it, since it can read DVD Video discs. Another fun fact, PS1 and Sega Saturn had optional decoder add-ons that would allow you to play them there.
Huh, i somehow have never heard of it until now. Wonder why the console reacts in such a weird way to it instead of just going right to the red screen and sticking to it.
VCD, or Video Compact Disc is basically an older version of DVD, released in 1993. It had a worse quality than DVD, but better than VHS. The DVD format was released in 1995, and it became way more popular than VCD.
Is This Real Or Fanmade?
Real, on real hardware
I think it break the playstation 2, WHAT HAVE YOU FRICKIN DONE!
no, it's just a screen that shows error, so it doesn't damage anything
First off capslock doesn't mean anything and second if you want to swear at least say fucking it's the same thing.

That could explain why it read it as a PlayStation 2 disc is because that might of been the format the laser reads the ps2 discs. Everything is trying to be digital because of how poor quality disc's are and how easy they get scratched. Eventually every game we got will be converted digitally old and new video games it's already happening on the Nintendo Switch and modern consoles.
Video CD, a disc type that could store videos. Basically an earlier, lower quality DVD disc. It was generally better quality than VHS and could be played on DVD players
video cd. this was before DVD, Blu ray, and DEFINITELY before streaming
