- Taiwan’s newly sworn-in President - Lai Ching-te - will face a difficult start as he prepares to lead the country with a minority government, Taiwan Research Hub Director Chun-Yi Lee at the University of Nottingham told FRANCE 24. Lai, who is seen as pro-independence by China, will need to navigate the already-strained relationship between Taipei and Beijing, Lee said. Lai will also face challenges at home as he seeks to boost Taiwan’s slowing economy, she added.

Taiwan is not chines,Taiwan is a independent country.
Cry that to UN.
Taiwan should change the name of their government from “the republic of China” to “the republic of Taiwan” if they believe they are a country.
@@samanthajones4877 yep and brace for invasion. Because its blatant openly declaration of independence, out from 1 china.
Taiwan is a Part of China.
Amen
@GreptonLawrence China does not agree with you. For that matter, there are only 11 countries in the world (plus the Vatican) that currently recognize Taiwan as an independent country. The United States does not even technically recognize Taiwan as an independent country, and has not recognized them since 1979.
Maybe the Nationalist Chinese should not have stomped Taiwan culture and language (true identity) after they sought refuge in Taiwan. It would have been easer to tell China that Taiwan is not Chinese and have its own Culture and Language that is not Hun
Taiwan locals are also migrants from China, especially the Fujian province. As early as Ming Dynasty, the Fujian Chinese have become the 99% population on Taiwan.
Get it, Taiwanese people. Fight for that democracy.
Taiwan no1
😂😂😂😂it's province of China and has 70% trade with mainland
@@DK-ev9dg Maybe of China but never of the PRC!
The most interesting thing is that the new and all previous presidents of Taiwan they all have to raise their hand and swear in as president, in front of the portrait of Dr. Sun Yat Sen who was an ardent nationalist for the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. I can understand Taiwan's rejection of communism, but I cannot understand Taiwan's rejection of the Chinese nation while all presidents have to raise their hand and swear in, in the spiritual presence of an ardent Chinese nationalist for an unified China.
They reject a Chinese nation ruled by a government that doesn’t embrace democracy and respect for human rights. Taiwan will never be part of a communist China like it or not, and the CCP needs to realize they will not be able to force their ways onto this island. It’s not going to happen. So maintaining the status quo is in the interest of not just Taiwan, but China.
@@jst4572 Do you read English at all? That's exactly what I said: I repeat: "I can understand Taiwan's rejection of communism, but I cannot understand Taiwan's rejection of the Chinese nation." The concept of a Chinese nation is bigger than any government. My question is NOT about government, it's about the strange rejection of a nationhood. You can have one nation under different governments.

Mr. Lai elected as president of The Republic of China, now sitting in the president’s office in Taipei, acting to overthrow the Republic of China for Taiwan’s independence.
