Tara Lipinski was not only the youngest figure skater to win a World Figure Skating title, but also the youngest to win an individual Olympic gold medal. At the age of 15 years and 255 days, Tara Lipinski won Gold at the Nagano 1998 Winter Olympic Games and created history for the United States. I like this so much better than figure skating of today to me it’s just so much more beautiful, graceful, and artistic.
One of my favorite olympic programs. This night she proved she was not just an athlete but also an entertainer as she loves to skate for the audience.

As much as I love Michelle Kwan and that so many people wanted Michelle to win, Tara really skated with so much more freedom and energy at these olympics. She truly deserved the win.

Michelle's artistry is the most difficult technique which Tara Lipinski never touched the level.
The ISU raised the age limit to 17 NOW, which means Tara Lipinski didn't deserve to win and she should go to the kid's Olympics with her Disney Cartoon program.
Just a friendly note: the channel would do well to correct the dates posted in the opening graphics as well as the lower thirds. Tara Lipinski won gold in Nagano in 1998 (not 1988 as the video states).

Maxi Herber from Germany was 13, when she won Olympic gold in pairs. So Tara is the youngest only in single skating
@@daretodream9765Since she is clearly a single skater, that is a given. Maxi was the youngest at 15 years 128 days (not 13). Tara was 15 years 255 days.
Tara’s combination jumps were the highlight of her win. Triple lutz double loop in the short program and triple loop triple loop in the free skate.
Under the new system, Tara's technique wouldn't get marks.
Tara's performance was boring....she had the only one kid's style and never changed, her LP and SP had no different.

Absolutely! I was never a huge fan of Tara's skating, but her technical content was like 15 years ahead of its time. It's a shame her abilities aren't talked about enough because people are still salty about Michelle losing.
@@three_and_a_half_revolution No. Tara didn't really make a correct triple triple combo, she had a kid's body and weight so easier to jump, nothing more. Michelle's artistry and technique were better, that's why Tara retired because she couldn't stop grow up and everything changed.
@@TT-ee4qp Not true. She stopped skating because she had an injured hip that required surgery, and also because she wanted her family back together. She accomplished what she wanted, so she went out on top.
Michelle had triple triple combo since 1995 ~ 2005 ( not every time ) ......earlier than Tara Lipinski.

Yes! Hypothetically speaking, if she had won the gold in Nagano, Would she have then won gold again in SLC? She may not have had as many nerves or quit Frank due to Hypothetically winning Nagano. And if she did win gold in Nagano but not SLC, would she have continued competing beyond that?

@@rheahinlo I wanted Michele to win every time she competed. She had me "way back when", I could have cared less about the other skaters. Her spirit, her nerves, her beautiful technique. Altogether, a very unique sports star with so much appeal.

I think Tara was a wonderful jumper but the judges clearly preferred Michelle because she was the entire package. If Michelle skated the same way she did at Nationals, she would've won.
I want to believe that MK would've won had she performed the same at nationals. She really needed to have re thunk her program layout and perhaps adding an extra triple or making her 2ts into Lo. But at nationals MK actually had help, tara didn't do so well in the short, which helped her win the overall gold in the old system. Maybe just maybe if it were better than her nationals she still could've clinched it. But I'm with you. MK still should've won this. Still so disappointed after all these years.

@@giddygp2816 You're right that Evgenia won with a flutz, but even if her flutz was called and points were deducted for it, she would have won fairly in both 2016 and 2017. A flutz is just an incorrect edge on one type of jump, it's not the most important thing in skating..

Юля Липницкая на несколько месяцев моложе. Сочи 2014год. Тара замечательно откатала программу. У них даже фамилии похожи.
But she won a team medal, not an individual medal. Tara was very impressed with Yulia.
I prefer to think that Zagitova had the same condition too cuz they both were 15. Tara got the claim because she was born in the later date (diff with only 1 month younger) so it doesnt make sense to put a title just based on the day a skater was born. And since Olympics only happens once in 4-years, its not the fault of other winners like Kim Yuna cuz she couldve won too at 15 yo if Olympics happened every year.
Maybe, however Tara is the YOUNGEST ever WORLD CHAMPION at 14 years old. So she is still better than both Zagitova and Kim.

@@three_and_a_half_revolution yea thats my point that the gap between Tara and Zagitova was just their birthdate, which is something they cannot change. Tara is only younger because she was born in June while Zagitova in May, which is again something they cannot change. Imho, title should be given for something that people can work for/gain, not given (birthdate). If we determine "youngest figure skaging achievement" by birthdate, that would made skaters who were born in second half of the year less likely to get the title because those who were born in the first half will get it due to later birthdate. I'd prefer to determine it by the registered age by the cut-off date (July 1st) so therefore every skater who wins at 15 yo (1st year of Senior) is considered the legendary "youngest skaters to achieve....". But as I stated before, its my preference, just a thought.

No, it's not a thing. The minimum age is 15 and has been since 1996.
You may be thinking about another controversy - when the rules changed in 1996, Tara has already competed at the World's, so she was grandfathered into eligibility (so she didn't have to wait out a full year).
