@@OTPFrodo, by exiting the right lane the car went to pass when it was an obvious right turn, but by completely leaving the lane they can't claim that as they slowed it was a message for the cars behind to slow to maintain distance as they were no longer in the same lane. I'd say the error should be given 70% to the idiot behind and only 30% to the person turning.
Watch the clip again. The truck had a signal on and went wide to make the turn. It is 100% the fault of the SUV
Even signaling, crossing a double yellow unless turning left into a driveway is an illegal (and super lazy) turn. It’s got power steering, right? Not a series of ropes and pullies. Yes, you’d need to slow down a lot more to navigate a tighter turn, but the guy behind you can wait an extra half second.

Got news for you in this economy attempted car insurance fraud is on the rise. In my county I live in they attempt it often. Had one the other day while we were going uphill on a two lane road. They let off the gas hoping I would hit. I was forced to do a illegal overtake to avoid them. That is just one of many tactics they employ.

Yup, any time the airbags go off, insurance will write it off as totaled (even if its a relatively cheap repair). Basically blacklisting the vehicle from ever getting insured again by any insurance company.

It's called "turning Radius". It is why semis have to "swing left" or overshoot a turn in order to make it. Same thing with a long straight truck or any vehicle with a long trailer. He had on his right turn signal and there was no where he could have been "turning left".
Also, it is illegal to "pass on the right shoulder". Now, if there were two lanes and he turned from the left lane, that would have been a whole different story (this is why semis will ride the middle of two lanes when making a right turn, so no one, intelligent, come around them on the right.

Nevermind, I take it all back...... when it comes to him (not the principle, in general). I rewatched the video asaw that he was fully in the opposite lane and didn't just swing out. He is the ID-10-T and should have been fully responsible, regardless of the turn signal.

Tbf, with a truck like that, there was no chance he could fit in the driveway unless he did so. Didn't help the other driver more then likely was thinking to try and squeeze by (yes, people stupidly do that, have had people do that to me while Ive been in the middle of backing into peoples driveways before, blatantly obvious since im perpendicular to the road and already reversing) and didn't even think to slow down/stop.
He didn't really get blamed, all he got was a "Warning", not a ticket.
His Insurance may partially blame him for the accident, driving on the wrong side of the road, over a double yellow and making right turn from the left lane.

#13.3 Happens all the time at one of the major brand truck-stops around here. Trucks do not stop when coming out. This is especially true if the need to get over to go north on the interstate. Police could make their monthly quota in a day if they are around.
#21's 'Improper turn' ticket was for moving left into the wrong lane to then make a right turn into the driveway.

@@susansusan6612 It's because the repo Truck did not come to a Complete Stop before making the turn (the lane change itself could be conceded as the fault but because that truck was large enough to have to require similar requirements to make wide turns) at the very least.

Play the video at 1/4 speed and you can see the right turn signal on the truck is on/off/on/off. However, playing it slowly only makes it clearer which side of the road he was on when he did the turn.
Maybe insurance will see the faults differently. I'm going to guess the truck's insurer says 90/10, while the trailing car's insurer says 10/90 and it drags on for a year without anybody getting paid. You're in good hands.

If the cyclist had signaled--yes, there IS a cycling signal to move over for a left turn--then the cammer's rage would be unjustified.
Cyclist didn't signal. Which makes it a very risky maneuver, particularly with oncoming traffic. And, as noted, quite possibly a radiator or bumper in the fanny.
Not an insurance scam or suicide attempt, sorry cammer--cyclist just needed to get over for a left turn, which is generally legal and allowed. I do the exact same type of maneuver in some cases where there's known heavy traffic and I need to do a left turn at a particular spot: stay right long enough to get a break in traffic, then dive for the center turn lane as quick as possible. HOWEVER, there's two things I ALWAYS do in that situation: 1) I LOOK behind me (mirror, head turn to confirm), 2) SIGNAL clearly my intention for anybody that's paying attention. And if there's somebody there that is a threat to my safety when doing that, I don't make the move until they pass me, period.
Some guy on a bicycle did that exact same thing to me recently. Cut across 3 lanes of traffic to turn left. I ended up on the wrong side of the road trying to avoid him

I can *kinda* understand not citing the car that hit him (though when someone is doing something weird in front of you on the road, "JUST KEEP DRIVING AND HOPE FOR THE BEST" is never a good strategy), but I mostly agree with the cammer -- you're allowed to make wide turns, though you probably do have to guard your lane.
@@bvoyelr That flash that you see coming from the turn signal area looks like the sun being reflected...to me. The driver of the work truck is also a doofus for not backing into his driveway. Because backing out blindly into the road, in a truck that is almost impossible to see out the back clearly, is just dumb. The other driver is a complete doofus for even trying to pass while the work truck was doing something different than "normal." Of course normal, on the road, is not what I would like to define as normal...but I think you get what I'm saying.

@@VaporheadATC True, and this isn't a criminal matter anyway, it's a vehicle code infraction at most. The DA isn't going to make a case out of this. The only way to get restitution would be for the cammer to go to small claims court and get a judgement if he doesn't go through his insurance. And then they still won't pay, the cammer would need to spend more money and time to go through the collections process. But if he goes through his insurance for repairs, then he has no legal recourse to take towards the other party.

#21 the fact that you need it explained to you about why that is an improper turn tells us all we need to know about you. If you can’t turn that truck into your driveway without taking a wide turn into oncoming traffic then you are not capable of handling that truck.
The sad part is, that truck isn’t that big. You should be able to turn into your driveway like an adult. Be better.

@@seekeroftruth6728 turning radius is different, but the difference does not require you to go into the opposing lane to make a turn to the same degree this truck did. had the truck's driver slowed down properly to turn, he could have remained in his lane (sure, with a possible tire going slightly into the opposing lane - not the entire truck).
@@seekeroftruth6728 the turning circle has to do with the wheel base on a 4 wheeler..the over hang at the rear has nothing to do with the turning circle, however it does impact on the route we take to perform a tight turn..examples are an RV that has a fairly short wheelbase but a huge overhang or a stretch limo that has a huge wheelbase but not so large an overhang, thats why garbage trucks & some buses have rear steer

Final scene: Colorado Springs, CO. I live here also! Since 1995. This city has grown immensely and the drivers have gotten worse! The road construction areas are the worse! Drivers wait until they have no choice but to merge! With at least 1/4 mile notice to merge they still wait until their lane ends and expect all others to yield to them!

The more I watch these videos, the clearer that "right on red" needs to be made an illegal maneuver at every stoplight.
Honestly, I tend to agree even from my own experience. There are just so many lights where it's not posted as illegal that it's nearly impossible to do safely during heavy traffic. Between pedestrians, oncoming cars, and general idiots, it's risky.
That said, there are also intersections in my town when you'll never turn right pretty much except on red due to pedestrian traffic. Even then it's dodgy.
Honestly, I love stops where right turns are banned during the red light. You don't get as many idiots honking the horn at you to turn when you are still waiting on the traffic.
If you ever visit Montréal, Québec, Canada, wich is an Island in the middle of the river, with 1million residents and a half million comming in to work everyday, city hall made it simple: you cross the bridges to get on the island: DON'T TURN ON RED: it'will cost you, A LOT !
This would save hundreds of lives!

3:40 Ah man, a similar situation happened here where the cyclist WAS killed. Guy was cycling at night, keeping to the right in case of a car needing to pass. That's about all he was doing correctly though. Apparently had no lights, improperly fixed reflectors, wearing dark colors etc. Either the police report or news story said he started to attempt a left turn, when a car trying to pass hit him with really no chance to avoid. As a cyclist, and one who often cycles commuting to work, ya got to be careful. I ain't playing around, so mine has reflectors, lights, bright colors and even a few glow in the dark pieces so I am VERY visible at night or in low light.
Check out glass bead paints and retroreflective tape.
I am a cyclist who used to drive 18w. I recmend any reflective devices and lights that show the motion of the wheels and pedals. Flashing front white strobes help a lot too to identify bikes coming on the other side, so we know cars may be about to pass them in our lane.
@@ThisTimeTheWorld I've got reflective spoke tape on every spoke, front and rear flashing lights (except at night/rain when front is solid), rear helmet flashing light, reflectives on sleeves and legs and jersey... Anybody claims they didn't see me better go get an eye exam if they don't want to get distracted driving allegations on top of whatever else the cops give 'em. Spoke tape is because I lost my rear wheel reflector a couple years back (it got loose and got into the rear fork, snapping and dropping off), and rather than replace it with a regular reflector I just got the tape, seemed easier than finding the right type of wheel reflector.

7:46 The warning for improper turn was a good call on the cops part because you cannot legally cross the double yellow lines into oncoming traffic to make a wide turn. IF fault is split for the accident it will be 90% SUV 10% Truck. The SUV had 2-3 seconds of time where they were 2 cars lengths behind the ALREADY turning truck, had the SUV been paying attention to the road and slowed down they would have avoided the accident completely. It will be extremely difficult to argue that they thought the truck crossed the double yellow lines to turn left at that spot because there isn't anywhere to turn and there isn't any vehicle in front of them that is stopped that they would need to cross lines to pass. The truck does have there turn signal displayed to alert other drivers to their intentions of turning.
The truck being over the double yellow lines before the turn is the only argument the SUV can make to share fault for this accident. The counter argument is that with the extended cab/extended bed truck there is a necessity for a wider turning radius to successfully make the turn, thus making it necessary to cross the double yellow lines to line up with the driveway correctly and to avoid hitting the already parked vehicle in the driveway.
Ultimately, the SUV is responsible for being in control of their vehicle at all times while in operation, they failed to be aware of all of their surroundings and failed to apply their brakes resulting in them hitting the turning vehicle in front of them.
Agreed here. Two separate issues in my mind: the unnecessary wide turn of the truck and the Acura SUV not paying attention. The former shouldn't have any affect on how the SUV perceived the situation, and if anything, a good driver would have approached the truck more cautiously given what they are observing in front of them.
If you just slow down when someone is tailgating you they’ll just get impatient and pass you while yelling at you out the window and probably flipping you off 😅

Agreed. I'm the driver. In retrospect I should have gone through but I've gotten yanked by the Gautier cops here a few times already for similar scenarios and the lights are short. I wasn't sure how long it had been yellow since I wasn't looking straight ahead like I should have been and didn't see when it turned yellow.

Close, but no cigar. The law in Florida clearly states that you need to be mostly in a lane to retain possession. Citation:

#10.2 Cammer saw that guy flying up behind him, flashing his lights at him yet the cammer thought it'd be a great idea to continue to merge into his lane at 60mph for absolutely no reason. Cammer wasn't passing anyone and his lane was completely empty. Obviously he didn't deserve to have his car clipped but that won't be the last time a crazy person road rages against him if he drives like that regularly.

#21 you swerved into the oncoming lane before making your right turn into the driveway. Even though nobody was coming and you needed the room, it is technically illegal to do. Yes I noticed you had your right blinker on, but you swerved left then right in front of another driver. Dangerous either way. Make your right from your lane not a different lane and he would have been at fault for rear ending you instead of both of you doing something illegal and having a 50/50 insurance split. Hopefully everyone was okay.

@@jerkyz I think the truck driver was trying to be polite by swinging wide so he could turn into the driveway quicker and not slow down traffic behind but he should have straddled both lanes so traffic behind doesn't have a chance to pass on the right.

Have they changed the function of a safe follow distance, and no one told me? It seems like the vast majority of drivers think a safe following distance being left by another is specifically for them to pull into. With no signal and immediately slow down in front of you. It is so widespread.

#19. The gas station is on a corner, so it will have entrances and exits onto both streets. Can someone please explain to me why people will come out one side of the gas station and cut across traffic just to turn onto the other street? I have never understood that rationale.
