  • Today I'm making a Goat Milking Stand and milking stool for our Mini-Nubian dairy goat, Belle. In the video I'll show how I cut and weld the milking stand frame, assemble the chute mechanism and as always, finish it off with my favorite "Homesteadonomics Gray" spray paint ;) And there is sure to be some cute goat footage and a peak at some future projects too!
    Thanks for watching and let me know if you have any questions!

    Very clever and kudos for the simple engineering. Your daughter (and you) may enjoy watching Painted Desert Ranch. They are up in Navajo country near Holbrook, AZ. Danielle and Henson are members of the Winn family cattle and horse ranch. The land is very rugged up there. Much of the ranch work is done on horseback. The Winn ranch breeds beautiful and prized quarter horses, and Henson Winn is an excellent horse trainer, and Daniele competes in barrel racing.

      Oh yes, horses are a daily subject of conversation😂 My wife has always wanted a horse, but now is much wiser and kinda the family ‘financier’ so she’s probably the most hesitant. I’ve never really wanted horses but now that my daughter wants them I’m kinda on board now too. So there is a pretty funny nightly/daily family conversation the has been going on for a few months now😂

    • @homesteadonomics
      @homesteadonomics  Год назад

      Oh yes, the chariot is something I think could really be a fun little venture. But the little one, Peaches, does not seem interested😂. So it’d likely be a larger one that our momma goat would pull once she’s out of milk. And I’d try to have it where Marley could sit on it. But who knows…

  • @TedAlexander24

    Looks like it works perfectly. I see an arena in your future builds. Of course that comes with a barn and a minimum of 3 horse stalls.

    • @homesteadonomics
      @homesteadonomics  Год назад +1

      Oh boy, I do too! She wants horses SO badly. But I’ve got to make it make sense financially first. So I’m considering all options like boarding, etc,. But you’ll definitely know before wr get them as I’ll likely do a bunch of video projects…”building a horse stall”, “diy cheap horse fencing using railroad ties” or whatever else I can think of.
      We are very intrigued by the BLM/prison wild mustang program out here in the western states. BLM horses go to a couple different prisons were inmates get to train and ‘gentle’ them and then they auction them.
      We’ve also got some family in the border patrol and they say that they give there horses from the horse division away as they get past their prime. They are pretty well trained and have gotten used to riding with a variety of riders, at night, etc,.
      But who knows…. Still in the idea phase.

      Buzz box is the classic you gotta have! I started with a Lincoln AC225 and really liked it. But my Forney multiprocess machine Im is just too convenient….haha. But I will say wire feed lends itself to the mid range projects so well. However, stick is still king for for many things that need toughness, especially if your running 7018’s or something like that. I also love the nostalgia with stick too!

    Very nicely done Joe! The wheels may have been a small addition but very smart! And the open grate for obvious reasons! Now you can take the cart anywhere and not necessarily bring the goats to a station. I wonder though, do the goats ever get "freaked out" when in the holder. Like if the food ran out and they tried to back out and couldn't, do they struggle? Horses! I knew it! 😉I think learning to lasso leg sweep your kids is a good thing to perfect before they get to be teenagers! 🤣

    • @homesteadonomics
      @homesteadonomics  Год назад +2

      About them getting freaked out…. I’m sure they would if they ran out of treats, be we try to make sure that they have enough for the entire milking. And if they are getting low we speed up the milking to keep any panic from happening. And as for the lasso when she gets older….I’m hoping that won’t be necessary as I’ll start posting more firearm related content and so the boys can get an idea of where my line in the sand is😉

    • @homesteadonomics
      @homesteadonomics  Год назад +1

      Yes, I’d agree. I’ve got a friend who does some horse boarding and that is pretty much what he’s said. If we are able to get horses we plan to either get BLM/prison horses OR get some retired border patrol horses.
      The BLM/prison program is a gentling program with the wild mustangs. And it gets the horses to the saddle/ride stage before the auction.
      The border patrol route would be via family we have that are familiar with their horse unit. The horses are well trained and are used to a variety of riders and riding at night.
      But the economy and we’re definitely erring in the side of prudence, so we don’t get into a bad situation for us or the horse. Plus, there’s a LOT of things I’d need to get in place first(stalls, pen, run, vet, etc

      The basic concept and design can be made out of wood just as easily. Actually, way easier….so just because I made mine with metal does not mean the concept won’t work with wood. I showed my scrap wood one in previous videos of this goat project and the design is almost exactly the same.
      And I’ve even had a couple folks let me know that they used some of these basic designs for their own stands…out of wood.
