In total agreement with you regarding Take a kit with you . My Apache elk skin kit already has proven materials in it . Some people don't realize that aboriginal / "primitive" humans carried a complete fire kit with them and these bags were and are highly venerated . Your article in the Backwoodsman magazine Nov/Dec 2016 was a great read and the advertising on the back page for Whiskey Knives is why 2 blades were ordered . Your videos - books and teachings are much appreciated & Thanks again . Lefty - New Mexico

Received my Creek Takedown bow drill kit very fast. Of course I couldn't wait to try it... I achieved an ember with this on the second try! This is a very good kit, I can't wait to try it again tomorrow night for a real fire.
    Thanx Creek

I've seen a lot of people do bow drills on youtube and only 3 now that truly have real experience that they claim. You sir are the 3rd great video and I will be picking up that book.

It's essential to teach the basic skills of the Bow Drill, but more importantly .... they need to see that they can get their fire. After that.... the responsibility is theirs. Well said.

My grandson and I just watched this and tried our best for an hour, but didn't get an ember to stay lit and I'm plum tuckered. Tomorrow is a new day, lucky for me I have a firesteel...thanks for sharing the video and making the kit Creek.

I made the same mistake you did, putting all of my energy into the bow drill. You may be working too hard. I find that success with the bow drill comes from stamina more than the speed you're able to put into it. Like Creek said, most of it is just getting dust into a notch that will light easily. If you're having trouble getting the dust into an ember and it's sunny out why not try lighting it with a magnifying glass. I did that just to check if the dust was right and I got a coal with a magnifying glass. Maybe you can't get a smouldering ember entirely by friction now, but at the very least you've got a way to supplement other fire starting tools.

Question! Those moccasins are gorgeous!!! Is there anyway to buy those, or are they hand made by yourself? And btw... You've got really great charisma. It makes watching all your videos a pleasure!

Creek, I have to know where you got your boots in this vid or who made them for you. I just don't think I could possibly use a bow drill wearing anything other. LOL No really, I would love to know where I can get a pair. Thanks

Were you even listening through your preconceived ideas? He directly said it's for those who've never even picked up a bow before so they can LEARN on a set that WON'T set them up for failure. Making your own kit is something that comes after you've mastered the basics and can incorporate your self sufficiency into it. It's no different than stabilizers when learning how to ride a bike. Once you get your balance and don't need stabilizer wheels any more, you take the damn things off and ride. After that, you can get on any bike and ride it with no problem.

@@angelus_solus Yup, there's always a know it all who doesn't listen and likes to look down their noses at people while they're not listening OR understanding the basis or context of it all. 🙄
