- I've been with Sally
I've been with Sue
I've been with Cindy and her sister too
Now I'm tryin' to settle down
Start a family with that cute little Kim
But now that I've tasted blood
Now this wine tastes too thin.
I've got a needle, don't be alarmed
It shoots streams of lovely things into my arm
Well I'd sell my own mother for that sweet heroin
Oh, now that I've tasted blood
Now this wine seems too thin
Sometimes the white coats; They hide black hearts
We've learned to sugar coat the same black guards
Well, I turn lead into gold
I'll cure original sin
Oh, now that I've tasted blood
Now this wine seems too thin
Oh, well I walked in the bank
And I pulled out my gun
You should've seen those people scream and run
I used to make an honest buck;
How can I go back to that again?
Oh, now that I've tasted blood
Now this wine seems too thin
Oh, now that I've tasted blood
Now this wine seems too thin
Oh, now that I've tasted blood
Now this wine seems too thin
I was part of an abusive ministry that uses coercive psychological tactics to mix capitalism and the Gospel. Empty dead religious pride that is weaponized is worse than sex, drugs, and rock and roll. The genius of Dustin Kensrue is that he understands paradoxical thought. The blood of Christ is Love, God is love. Demons hate humans and get revenge by leading them astray, that is drinking adrenalized human blood. This song represents something fundamentally sacred about Americas take on the Gospel, you cut through the bs and you are not afraid to say God Damn the King. You have to serve somebody, you cannot serve two masters, love your enemies.
Anyone notice it's the same chords as Folsom prison? Either way this is like my top 5 fav songs.
Buddy, have you heard “Hook” from Blues Traveler?
@ChronSkull Dustin is a devote Christian and many of Thrice's songs are religious.
This album is amazing...
@mmik
I'll vote up on this. I think you're correct. That's what I gather from these lyrics.
I was trying to find this song but whenever I typed it in The Witcher 3 came up
I FUCKING LOVE THIS SONG.
at 1:17 I'm pretty sure it's "How can I go back to that again?" not "Oh, can I go back to that again?"
I fucking love this song
Sonny rotten...kids were vicious
Songs can have double meanings. The wine could be referring to the sacrament- the symbolic "blood" of christ. And for anyone who doesnt know, when you shoot heroin, a lot of times after you pull the needle out, theres blood running down your arm so you just suck or lick it off so it doesnt drip all over your clothes. So "tasting blood" might be representing using drugs, and the wine being too thin might mean that under the influence of drugs, the temptation for more...God and religion lose a lot of their power.
Yea I suppose you're right about that. I guess it's from all of his other music.
@mmik that makes sense. I have a tendancy to assume people are pointing towards a positive pretense. Either way, it gives testimony that we are all fallen
@phillster2271 I think you have it slightly backwards. I think "blood" refers to the evil deeds being portrayed in the song, and wine refers to the blood of Christ. Thus, the song is about a man who falls into a routine of demoralization.
Makes a bit more sense to me, what do you think?
Its definatly heroin. He is an ex addict. Myself is well. And everyword to this song relates to it. I know the taste of blood from that needle.
@raaaaaassssssb ---dude, you obviously have no idea what he's singing about. Hes talking about being a reborn Christian. "tasted blood" is the blood of Christ that he gave up for us to cover our sins. Since hes felt the redemptive power of Christs sacrifice, nothing can compare to it. "wine seems to thin" is him stating that the booze doesnt compare to Christ.
Or maybe it's a song about a hyper fueled life and how it's hard to go back to a simple conservative one? There doesnt have to be religious meanings behind everything people....
I agree with mmik, but this song makes ME think of our government more than anything.
@ChronSkull you're negating the fact that he is a Christian. Not a religion, but a relationship with God is what their songs are about. You might want to examine the type life this artist you like is living. its a little deeper than just talking about heroin.
I agree with you more than the other guy, but why tie religion into this at all?
The song's about him being hooked on an up beat crazy life and that a normal life just won't satisfy any more.
All this talk about blood and wine referring to some Jesus bullshit is a little out of context.
Hearing that he might be a Christian and knowing he did a few gospel songs, I initially approached this song as was mentioned below...the idea that once you've tasted Jesus blood (become saved), the old life just wasn't enough anymore. But I'm not buying that...the last verse laments "I used to make an honest buck, but how can I go back to that again?". That doesn't sound like being set free to me. If it's a song referring to the change in you after being saved, it's not written well at all.
I do think it's a well written song about drug addiction, perhaps a cautionary tale?
