    The Simpsons Road Rage (PS2) - Retro Game Review
    It's rare for me to have more than a passing interest in high score chasing but Road Rage has had it's hooks in me for about 20 years. So much so that I've not been able to get into Hit and Run because it makes me want to play Road Rage instead. It's fast, funny, and absolutely worth your time; especially when you play against your best friends. It's on Xbox, PS2, and Gamecube.

    road rage > crazy taxi

      I feel I probably agree but I've only given Crazy Taxi about 15 minutes of my time and it wasn't the version with the Offspring music. So I'll tentatively reserve my judgement.
      Road Rage has the Simpsons character interactions which was a huge part of the appeal for me then and now. Even when it was new it was nostalgic for those of us who had just spent our formative years watching the show near daily for over a decade. I just don't see Crazy Taxi topping that powerful emotion.

    What a game! Your video brought back so many memories of a friend and I sitting on the floor in front of the TV, and cracking up at the hilarious stunts and voice lines in this game. Otto's bus was definitely one of the highlights. Great video!

      Thank you! Those really are the best memories. I mostly played this one alone, long into the night. But I've still got a list as long as my arm of other games that I enjoyed elbow to elbow with family and friends.

      I'll have to think on this as I'd like to do it in a way that's structured and has levity like the reviews. I do like the idea

    Even with the obvious Crazy Taxi comparisons, I really appreciate the arcade analogy - considering the unlockables, areas, and everything else, the arcade high score drive makes perfect sense.
    I wonder if there's a unified map of Springfield out there - does the map in Road Rage match up with Hit and Run, Virtual Springfield, or The Simpsons Game? It would be really cool if that were the case for any of them.

      Road Rage and Hit n Run are totally different neighborhoods. The interview mentions how the devs wanted to make looping track stages for Road Rage but Groening wanted a city layout; Entertaient District shows both designs can work together and I think Downtown shows a city layout is the stronger idea for a literal taxi game. The remaing neighborhoods dont loop and arent cities, with Evergreen Terrace working best with its shortcuts and road loops cutting off the main road.
      From what Ive seen of Hit and Run, the devs got their wish and made each neighborhood loop back on itself like a race track, but its open world and not a racer so you still go back and forth on 1 road for mission after mission until you unlock the next one. So when that criticism is laid on Road Rage I raise an eyebrow.
      Looking at the minimap to Virtual Springfield, it reminds me of the Nuclear Plant neighborhood in Road Rage with 2 urban areas cut by a river and linked by a bridge: it's probably most resembles the show. I'd love to get it running but it hits installation errors on windows 10.

      @@SweatyCowch Oh, fascinating! I don't know why, but the idea of establishing places like this as unified, like a real place, really interests me. This is really good to know! I also have been working on looking at Gotham City across the Arkham games, Gotham City Racer, and Batman and Robin (the first open world Batman game way back in '97!)

      @@MakopoweredGaming Awesome, picturing fictional places as real and mapping them out fascinates me too. Back then and now firing up these 3d games I always want to be in first person getting up close and seeing it from the character's perspective. I wanna see mundane stuff like bathrooms and offices. I too wanna check out Batman and Robin for the same reason.

      @@SweatyCowch I've actually been working on a long-term project along these lines, so finding something like this, and someone else who thinks it's interesting is really cool!
      Also, if you do check out Batman and Robin, go in knowing it's going to be an... unpleasant experience. When I first played it, I didn't last more than 15 minutes - and that was in 2016!

    I really like the 3 stages you mention but i also like dam because it has few shortcuts. Ive only played mountain once but may try it few more times before putting it with powerplant as the worst sp stage.

    I wonder how Road Rage runs on an emulator. I know PSX2 can run the original copies of some PS2 games through a DVD drive if your PC has one. I used a USB DVD player a few years ago and it worked well.

    • @SweatyCowch
      @SweatyCowch  2 года назад +1

      I've emulated with games in the dvd drive as well, but not Road Rage. PCSX2 compat page says Road Rage is playable, which is one step below what they consider perfect. Give it a go if you're able.

    Didn't Sega sued the developer and publisher of this game for being a complete rip-off of Crazy Taxi?

    • @SweatyCowch
      @SweatyCowch  2 года назад

      Oh yes, they sued, and Fox settled. I think Sega even had a copyright on the navigation arrow.

    I liked every simpsons game, from Barts vs mutants to wrestling haha. Maybe because, hey it's the simpsons, like the South Park games on PS1, everybody hate'em and the reviews were awful but i still play SP Rally form time to time.

    Fun and janky. Thats pretty much repersents the average game from 6th generation. My fav generation with 4th generation being 2nd and only one that can compete. The amount of innovation was insane and they focus on fun factor. Love and care was given to our fav ips. Simpson road rage is a close 2nd to hit and run for best simpson game. Beat em up is 3rd and the simpson game is 4th. Barts nughtmare 5th and lets not talk qbout the rest.
