- The Westminster Kennel Club 2004 Best In Show Josh the Newfoundland - - Love those Newfies - the commentators are a bit whacked at times (kinda like one of my fav shows "Best In Show")
It made me cry when he won,they are the best dogs!!!!!
I will NEVER forget that show. Josh was a special boy, and his breeder is a fantastic breeder. LOVE that boy...and his litter mate Braden was just as spectacular!
As we sing in Newfoundland ,Canada....... .."we will rant and roar like true Newfoundlanders....." Josh made the crowd do just that....ranted and roared!!! What a Newfie....! As kids I remember Newfies would help harvest potatoes and pull carts of them to the house.... wonderful!!!
I owned one of these magnificent dogs, her name Sugar. She was a beauty and helped me get thru my husbands illiness(als). She was amazing the way she took care of him and loved him. I will miss her forever!!!❤️❤️❤️💔❤️
I can't believe I've never commented on this video but here goes... My husband, Michael, and I were sitting in the breeder's section right on the floor directly in front of where Josh was lined up at the very end. Directly across from the judges and just to the right of the television camera in the temporary seating that is always set up for the event on the floor of Madison Square Garden. The first year we went (just one year prior to this) a Kerry Blue won - and that left us completely cold, because were were rooting for Josh. The next year (this year he won) he had come out of retirement to compete again. It was like our team winning the Super Bowl. We were jumping up and down and hugging each other. That dog was a complete rock star. When they announced his name and the lights hit him he just snapped to attention and owned that entire ring. Everyone was glued to him, especially us. I am so lucky that we got to witness this. He was a gorgeous pup - his coat was amazing, and the gleam in his eye, and his great spirit when he barked. Truly a best in show.
What a good story. Jealous in the house !

Always one of the most handsome Newfies ever! ..I have Josh's great grand-son and I am so proud!!! My boy also barks like that when someone's clapping!!!
Josh is magnificent but I would also like to commend his handler, who did a masterful job in the ring. Very loving but very controlled, just perfect!
After seeing the show last night, I had to see if Josh was on You Tube. Even knowing the result, I still felt thrilled when I saw him win on the video. My whole family watched that show, and we all cheered when Josh won. We've had three Newfies. We currently have a Newfie who is related to Josh, and we also have a Great Pyrenees. My daughter and son-in-law have a Pyr and a Bernese Mountain Dog. BIG dogs are the BEST!!
We are on our 2nd and 3rd Newf. The first was so amazing we had to get 2 the next time. ❤
When I saw the winner .. I just got tears in my eyes .. I think that it's because that my family and me, we have Newfoundlands at our self ..
But Josh is just so beautiful !

What a well deserved champion! It would be hard for me to pick any dog over a newf after owning one and getting ready to get another pup in January!

I will never forget this! So refreshing! seen as how the big dogs never win best in show, dont get me wrong I love all dogs but I'm tired of those toy pooches/ tiny ones win all the time
I watched Josh win 🏆 back when it happened, but I return to this video time and again as a lover of Newfies.

I'm so glad to see this video of Josh here. I'm very happy to be able to watch it, because my Lola, Ch Tabu Seabrook Nobelle Prize ROM, was Josh's great-grandmother. Lola was 3 years old when she retired with me over 14 year ago, and lived to the ripe old age of 13. She had so many gorgeous little boys and girls. Thanks so much for sharing this!

Beautiful dog ! I always wanted a Newfie after my Cuddles died (she was a spaniel), but I can not manage a large dog on my own.

Josh is perfect. Imagine to be Josh being surrounded with these imperfect humans in their imperfect world in their totally stupid competition. Josh needs someone to save him from this lunacy.
And, speaking of pronunciation; Josh's owner appeared on Letterman after the 2004 show. Both she and Dave mangled the word Newfoundland, but, even more telling, the owner mentioned Josh's registered name. It includes the words "Pouch Cove" & she prounced it as "pouch" as in, well, "a place to store or carry things". Very funny really, it's actually pronounced "pooch", yes, like, when referring to a dog . Many Newfoundlanders got a great kick out of that "missed connection" on the owners part.

I have a one year old bernese mt dog! and im thinking of getting another bernese the song of (Avatars Try Try Again) the number one dog in canada. but im also conisdering a newfoundland...hard hard choice...the only thing stopping me from getting one is the drooling. Bernese have dry mouths...anyways both have great temperaments and both are so similar in many ways

@grnictig2.... Almost impossible to get a pup from this breeder unless your in the newf "community"...try going to a local show and talking to some of the people there showing .someone may have their contact info. I

Newfies should win Westminster every year, or at least the working dog group. I was so stoked when Josh won. No more wussy little dogs winning. Yes I'm biased because I am a proud owner of a Newf, Drake. Check out his sliding vids here on RUclips! Newfs are the sweetest most loyal dogs on earth!!!

My comment re prounciation was meant to point out that the people who so often expouse upon the breed.,claiming to have "in-depth" knowledge, can't often even prounounce the name of the dog/province correctly. You know, I've formed the opinion that anybody wishing to aquire a Newfoundland should be required to visit the island first so they may then understand how the breed acquired it valued attributes.The Lab, formerly known as "The lesser Newfoundland" is content with being a Lab BTW
