Great tips for people that just don't know what to expect in the north :) I'm planning a trip next year to cover the whole Yukon, sounds like you are from Ont. big change for you to move to the Yukon, the north is Beautiful :)
I lived all over the Yukon when I was younger - for about 20 years from the mid 70's to the mid 90's. The rent was obviously cheaper, even relatively, but only if you lived in Whitehorse. Elsewhere it was astronomical, so it was best to get a job in a highway lodge where there's free room and board. Don't know if they still offer that anymore. For the 5 years that I lived right in Whitehorse, I lived in the Log Skyscraper for a couple hundred dollars a month. When I came back in '98 for the hundredth anniversary of the Gold Rush, I was disappointed to see the new owners had drywalled the interior walls, which used to be log like the outside. I sure miss the Yukon though.
Great video, it was quite informative But i have a question about jobs. Especially on Coffee Industry related. Would you say there's some opportunities for that matter? Are Yukon people like drinking coffee? What jobs opportunity that the community offer over there? I would really appreciate it for the reply. Keep awesome :)
Hi,this video was very informative. I was wondering if any of the government agencies in Whitehorse supply any housing options in terms of moving there for employment if hired remotely. Thx.
I think the day where there was no internet, we can't use debit and everyone was scrambling for cash, I think that was Canada wide, not just the Yukon. I live in Toronto and it happened here too!
You guys are awesome ! Do you ever see wolves up there ? I would love to hear of your or friends experience seeing them in the wild. Is there heavy hunting pressure on them up there ?
I’ve never seen one but I’ve definitely seen traces of them when out in the outdoors. They’re pretty elusive but they are here! I don’t know much about the wolves up here honestly. I really wish I could help out more!
Hi guys ! Thanks a lot for this video, it's for a lot the more informative i've watched it ... Can I ask, how secure it's Yukon? It's safe to go out like anywhere at anytime?
Our walmart is not a full grocery store. It only offers some dry goods and has a some fridges for frozen items and dairy products etc. No produce. We do have 3 other grocery stores though that offer full groceries.
Hello guys! I'm from Ukraine, Rovno town. It's not big town. Our population is 250k people. But my town is more bigger than yours. I hope, I will visit Yukon in the future. I really like north countries, especially Canada. Are you born in Yukon? How much does appartment (1bedroom for example) cost?
There are 14 first nations in the Yukon. In the Whitehorse area we respectfully acknowledge the Kwanlin Dün First Nation and the Ta’an Kwäch’än council.
So how far are the majestic, scenic nature areas from Whitehorse? I'm planning on visiting Whitehorse and off to Haines Junction (97 miles west of WH) for a flight seeing trip over the Kaskawulsh and St Elias mountains, which of course will be epic. I've checked out a couple videos on yourube about Whitehorse and its surroundings and it definitely is no Icefields Parkway (Jasper to Banff) from a scenic standpoint. Aside from Miles Canyon and canoeing on the Yukon river, how far do you have to travel from Whitehorse to see some epic stuff?
Yeah Whitehorse is definitely not at the centre of the beauty the Yukon has to offer. If you travel 1-2 hours towards Haines Junction there are some amazing views and the same if you go to Carcross and go to the towards the White Pass summit. If you make your way to Skagway, Alaska there’s stunning views and some ocean and it’s about a 2 hour drive from Whitehorse. There’s lots to see towards Haines, Alaska and some pretty spectacular views but you definitely have to drive quite a bit longer. And then there’s Tombstone which is a must see but it is a 6-8 hour drive from Whitehorse but one of my favourite places in the Yukon.
If you’re big into hiking this is a great resource : www.yukonhiking.ca It’s got all the best hikes in the Yukon and all the info you need. The Yukon is by no means easily accessible because it’s so vast and remote but if you have a car and you love a good road trip it’s absolutely worth it.
@@emiliedenis5387 Thanks for the heads up. We already decided to forgo Yukon for 2023 and we will be heading to North Cascades (Washington) instead. I will venture out to the Yukon one day and arrange for that coveted flight trip with glacier landing near Mt Logan :).
It’s truly a really beautiful place and I really love living here. Sometimes I forget that I live up north because Whitehorse has a lot to offer and it doesn’t feel remote at all. It’s so worth giving it a try even if you have any hesitations. You’ll probably end up loving it. If you don’t at least you tried and experienced something new!
It’s really dependent on what you’d prefer. We have a few stores here that sell winter gear and have staff that can help you choose the best winter clothes for you. If you end up purchasing them in Asia I would do some research about what would be best in cold temperatures. There’s a lot that goes into making good winter gear that will keep you warm. Admittedly, we have quite the extensive knowledge about winter clothes here since we do live in the cold. If you don’t find something that works for you in one of the few stores that there are in Whitehorse, you can order online once you have an idea of what you want and need from living here and asking people here for advice. I hope that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions!
@@emiliedenis5387 thank you so much! Probably buy some here in Singapore and buy the remaining heavy duty stuff there in Yukon! Your channel is so nice and helpful! Hope to meet you guys one day. I’m a chef in Singapore would love to share our food and culture to everyone down in Yukon!
Hi! Thanks for the video. My husband and I have been considering moving to the Yukon, so this is helpful. A couple of questions: what are the bugs/mosquitoes like in the summer? Does the severity differ from year to year or is it always bad? Also, what is Amazon delivery like? I imagine many people have things delivered there since there aren’t as many stores and products as in bigger cities. Also, is there a lot of crime since it’s a smaller, to more city? Thanks!
Hello guys, Im planning to relocate to Whitehorse, Yukon next month. Any tips on how to find a 1-2BR apartment (pet friendly) I have 2 small dogs with me.Thanks =)
Hi! I would be looking at Facebook marketplace and kijiji all the time. You could also join the group Yukon Helpers Network and post an add about yourself and what you’re looking for. People are really helpful on there and could point you to people who are looking for tenants or have places to recommend. I hope this helps!
Is it overcast there a lot in the winter, like in Vancouver, or or do you get a lot of sun throughout the winter months? Also, what are the bugs/mosquitoes like in the summer? Is is bad most years or does it differ year to year? Finally, what is Amazon deliveries like there? I imagine many people most buy online since you are so remote with fewer options than bigger cities? Thanks!
it get hot in the winter some days but also realy cold like right now ouside is -24 but the suns out so you can be frezzing but breaking a sweat from the sun The bug are realy bad like really fckin back man. amazon deliveries take like 4 to 16 days
It’s often overcast in the winter unless it’s really cold unfortunately. It’s something to get used. Before the solstice in December, the sun only shines for about 5 hours a day and most of it is golden hour. The sun only passes over the horizon so it’s always low in sky. The mosquitoes are pretty bad I’m not going to lie. Just like anywhere with lots of wooded area and fairly warm weather. I find it differs from year to year. I find if I wear light colours and a bug net around my head when I’m out hiking I don’t get bit quite as much. Amazon is not a problem here. There are some things that might be less available but overall I’ve never really had problems with being able to order things. They might take a longer than if you were in a big city is all.
From Sask here, working on moving out there. The expansive beauty of Yukon is outstanding and unmatched by anything I've witnessed.
As a recent arrival to Toronto, the Whitehorse ‘expensive’ sounds like a dream

We live in fort Nelson and looking forward to visiting Whitehorse
Thankyou guys. Please do more videos. Wanna move North so bad.
I'm sick on Vancouver Island weather and the business of the city. Whitehorse sounds exactly like the city I want to call home.
The main issue that I've heard about was the mosquitoes and black flies and other insects that make enjoying a summer evening very difficult.....???
Can’t wait to visit! We want to experience the foxes. Maybe get footage steeling shoes. 😊

You do live in igloos. It basically means house from the Inuit language 😊
The only thing I can say is Northern Ontario is very different from southern Ontario.
