  • The MG HS crossover, priced at Bt1.119 million (US$35,362), earns high praise for its elegant styling and high equipment level including loads of intelligent safety systems.
    It’s clear that designers of the HS had German luxury brands in mind (particularly Mercedes-Benz), with strong exterior and interior resemblance. Turns out that this is highly popular with Asian buyers including those in Thailand, making the HS one of the hottest models in its segment, with sales targeted at 12,000 units per year.
    The 1.5-liter turbocharged engine is paired to a 7-speed dual clutch transmission and has enough grunt for highway driving, although it gets a bit noisy and coarse at high revs, and there is no all-wheel-drive option.
    The Euro-tuned steering and suspension provides pretty solid feel compared to Japanese counterparts, although you don’t want to juggle it around too much at high speeds.
    Apart from the Mercedes-inspired design, the interior boasts high-quality materials that look and feel great, while infotainment is at its best with the i-SMART system, offering remote functions such as engine start, a/c control, remote diagnosis, vehicle locator, navigation and more.
    The HS also comes with smart safety features like intelligent high beam, forward collision warning, traffic jam assist, adaptive cruise control, blind spot detection, lane change assist, lane keep assist, lane departure warning/prevention, etc.

    Black and red interior trim, Bucket Seats,Turbo engine, DCG,...the HS is my dream car on budget. And very impressive review too.

    I test drove it too and felt very impressive by it. But the reliability of the engine and the dual clutch gearbox is unknown.
    Because it is a direct injection, which a setup known for causing carbon build up at intake valve side, I wonder how MG fares or overcome these concerns.

    Hi Kingsley, quick question: How do you switch your infotainment home display to look like what you had while driving, instead of the standard 3 color display that MG HS has?

    • @kingsley220
      @kingsley220  4 года назад

      This was the standard display in the car. Check out the settings in the menu (car button) or you might have to update the software to a newer version.

      The power and torque output is good for a modern 1.5T engine. But in terms of smoothness it's still behind Japanese brands like Honda. Thai version runs on fuel up to E85.

    at first look I thought it was a CX-5. On second thought, the title should have read "If you can't afford a CX-5"

    Nice review, what if compared to cx5?

      Thanks!
      I'd give more points to the CX-5 for driving dynamics and engine refinement (2.0-liter vs 1.5-liter). Both are fully-equipped (the HS seems to have a slight edge here) and come with intelligent safety features. But while the CX-5 2.0 SP retails at Bt1.56 million, the top HS X 1.5 costs just Bt1.119 million.

    Hello, nice review, but it seems like you keep saying like Mercedes and BMW and Audi, but MG itself is a very respectable brand in Europe and it’s been around for quite a while now, yes of course they are not as famous as Audi, BMW and Mercedes, but the name MG itself should be of a luxurious brand. But i know a lot of asian people never realize that MG do exist.
    Anyway, really love the MG HS, when it comes to Indonesia, i will definitely ditch my Mazda CX-5 for this beauty.

    • @kingsley220
      @kingsley220  4 года назад +2

      In the past MG was a respectable brand with lots of great cars, especially the convertibles. But over the years the company took a downhill direction, and like several other British brands, was eventually taken over by larger companies.
      The most recent owner of MG is the SAIC Group of China, and judging from the quality of their products, they are clearly in the Japanese car league rather than premium European.
      Nevertheless, MG is doing a great job at improving its product line up with models such as the HS (as well as the ZS EV) along with highly attractive pricing.
      Hope they decide to offer it in Indonesia as well!

    • @wh7824
      @wh7824 4 года назад +1

      thaiautonews yea i agree with you as well, i think SAIC might have saved MG brand by purchasing it, with their price definitey out of competiton with the Germans, all it is left is their glorious MG logo with deep history in it, hopefully Indonesia will get the highest spec too
