What a great review and very reassuring to hear from customers as ive just started a job selling MGs. Having driven the MG range and having had an Audi in the past I think you get so much car for the price tag, top spec and a comfortable drive. These cars will fly out the showroom.
Don't understand why people hate it. Yes, it's no Audi, Mercedes ,BMW etc but it's not targeted at buyers of those brands. It starts at £25.000 and offers everything most people with no interest in cars want.
Right!!! And i’ll go further, i’ve seen many car people seeking out for those new chinese automakers…. The big 3 germans are becoming more and more of the same, it’s like paying a premium that doesn’t really exist anymore

Then I saw MG offering such a new car well equipped with 7 years warranty and assistance.... Guess what.. I am selling my Jag and think a new MG as my next car..... Now they are just expensive toys unreliable with huge repair bills .. who doesn't live the experience can't understand.... I lived the experience, don't want any more, and learned my lesson. Mpg real world 😢😢😢😢. So initial cheap deal over 3 to 5 years of ownership will not be so cheap when filling up. All Chinese 1.5 lumps ice only are all thirsty.

Smug MG fanboy driver here - we're on our fourth brand new one, both of our current cars are brand new, fully electric and top of the range (there isnt a lot of choice when it comes to spec) 72.6kw ZS and 77kw 77kw MG4. The MG4 does 0-60 in just over 6 seconds and is real wheel drive. Both cars compently achieve over 260 miles on a charge on real world conditions. Both cars cost under 3p per mile to run. Capital cost of both after discounts was a shade over £60k. Should have been more like £74k - but big discounts to be had through the MG Affinity programme and general laclustre performance makes it a buyers market for electric if you shop around. I do feel very smug seeing what weve got when compared to my neighbours Merc EQC400 worth circa £80k. It has roughly a 250 mile real world range from a 100ish KW battery due to it weighing more than a tank. Its a lovely car - and i know when car thieves come down our street theyre going to take his rather than either of mine. And im completely at peace with that. 80k warranty over 7 years. And i can outdo most things at the lights (well in one of the cars at least) I can live without the badge - keep your 3 spokes or 4 rings - ill have the cash.
Why do reviewers always praise lower driving positions in SUV’s? Surely most real world drivers appreciate the highest setting for a more commanding view out hence a mention of seat adjustability might be more useful for future reviews.
Good question. It's worth mentioning for those who don't want to be in a "commanding" position but need the practicality of an SUV. A lot of SUVs are already high enough for most and with seats that don't allow much room to be lowered - it becomes uncomfortable if not restrictive for taller folks /Jamil
Will never ever buy a car without external climate controls, it is the biggest distraction from taking your eyes of the road. The government needs to make it law to save lives
A lower seating position fixes a huge problem the previous HS had. I tried one and never got as far as actually turning on the ignition as even in its lowest setting, the seat was far too high up. I'm only 5'11" and I felt like my head was brushing the roof which was just silly.
Pretty much always bought MG besides when they went out of business. I've loved all of my MGs but probably won't purchase moving forward as customer service if you do run into a problem is terrible and they gatekeep things like diagnostics so despite not being able to get you into a garage for 6-8 weeks you can't get anyone else to diagnose any problems in the car. If you are going to buy and switch after a year or so you are probably fine.
Do both versions of trophy model (auto and manual) have powered tailgate ? As was told in one of dealers last week that manual version doesn't have it.
Great looking car , id happily have one of these over an audi an save cash, love the tan interior in the hybrid one, would happily have the 1.5t petrol one in 7spd auto in top trim level with the tan brown interior 👌👍🏴
We have the previous generation of these as our work cars. They really surprised me when I first drove them but when the battery is flat they really drink fuel (the previous generation only managed 25 ish miles of electric driving) and the transition from petrol to electric was really sloppy. The suspension was also pretty poor but it was still a great value car
If you can get say 60 miles realworld on a overnight home charge , the plug in long term could be the happy medium as the base 1.5 ice only is quite thirsty Ps the ordinary buyer would like a opening sunroof again for the uk spec , this disappeared in 23 for previously tweaked model 😢
We relate this video's headline to the value for money, not heritage, as we think most buyers of SUVs are more concerned with value than brand history. Don't you agree?
Those tiny tucked in wheels make it look cheap. The Q5 has good filled arches that look fancy and expensive. Cheap small wheels are a big mistake. Fill those arches and look posh.
I would agree with you but in testing we found that the taller suspension travel (causing the arches to look unfilled) is a contributor to the great ride comfort. This has the effect of making the wheels look small but if they were any bigger and heavier, they would transfer more forces to the cabin. Bonus fact: smaller wheels = cheaper tyres. Which lines up nicely with the value proposition of the car. /Jamil
