I find your review really good, in fact, I regard your comments as having some sort of authority that I am willing to believe in. Your review is always detailed and objective, unlike some others who show bias from the very beginning. I look for your review every time I need check out on a particular model. Well done!
Hi Paul, I'm in NZ & I had this model out over night & drove about 250 ks over hils and flat open road running. I found the imedeiate response when excallerating in auto and used the paddle shift. Overall performance was excellent, the suspension was perfect & did not feel ant body roll. It stuck to the road & felt we were one with the road. Also I was so impressed with the stearing. I had no effort at all in cornering, in actual fact, all I did was a slight hand movement in both directions & pretty much the stearing took over & seemed to assist in the actual cornering, wonderfull. I was not overwelmed with the peeping when the doors opened, I actually found favor with trhe concept. I found at a 100 ks an hour the fuel gage hardly moved after doing 75 ks. My friend had a drive & he went up to 120 ks an hour. That was when the fuel gauge went down quite quick. I am looking forward to the purches of one. We have been offered this demo at a rather good reduced price. It is the 2021 & done just over 3.500 ks. It has all we would want to have in a car plus some. What I loved about it was that it has a electrick sunroof which is so refreshing. So to round up, My Wife & I simply love this car, & did not find one bit of negitivity about it what soever. And for the price, it is all car & comfort.
Best automotive review channel from Australia,so detailed and loved the 0-100 footage...keep it up!

Buying an MG supports the Communist Party of China. People that care about their own economy buy products from people/companies/brands that are designed and/or developed and/or researched in their own country or ally country. The people that work for those local companies, in free democracies, then buy other products developed in their own country or ally country and that keeps their families and friends in work and making money. Stupid people buy direct from Chinese brands and send every single penny out of their country and destroy their own economy and eventually their entire free society because they are cretins and/or greedy and/or want things they can't afford, and rather than wait and save. They are happy to screw over their entire economy in the pursuit of self-gratification, selfishness, and ego. Buying CCP owned brands and products fuels Chinese R&D and weakens free economies. Your children and your children's children will suffer as a result of your choices. This is not hyperbole, it is fact.

This is the best MG HS review I have seen anywhere. Next week I pick up my Excite but in the red colour. Thank you for uploading.
Do you have plans to review the HS PHEV that has just been released in Australia? I've had a test drive and pretty impressed given the price - but I'm a super-novice when it comes to cars and would love to see your expert opinion! Keep up the good work :)
I bought one of these in June (kicking myself because the day before we picked it up, MG announced the essence variant). I’ve been nothing but happy with it. Value for money wise, it is unbeatable. I actually really enjoy this car, and was very surprised by it after taking it for, a very hesitant, test drive. In all honesty, I’d buy it again.
One of the big things missed in this review is the MG pilot setting, which is absolutely brilliant in peak traffic. It’s no Tesla, but it works well enough.
If anyone is seriously considering one in the Sydney region, I can strongly recommend the team at Lansvale MG. They were an absolute pleasure to deal with from start to finish.

Hi Paul, thanks for the review. However, did you check the camera quality on the infotainment display? Are they in good quality and practicality? Some SUV like Nissan/Honda (as you correctly pointed out) give very poor quality picture.
Excellent review! You are very thorough with what all new car buyers are looking for. Many reviews only cover 25% of what you managed to include in your exceptional review.
Overall good bang for buck with a good balanced package. I will be taking one for a test drive this week.
Thank you. :)
Love your videos, you’re very entertaining ☺️
Nice review. Hoping to see the review for the LDV D90 diesel.
engine is a Joint venture and same engine is found in now defunct Equinox. which has 127kw and 265nm
Great review, one question, ...What is the length of the slow home charging cable that comes with the mg zs ev?
I was given MG HS Essence as a loaner by my dealer while my Ford Mondeo Titanium MD TDi had a water leak from air conditioner repaired. My impressions: build quality seemed good, it was spacious inside, the seats were comfortable and supportive and easily adjusted. It has good visibility.
Things I did not like: a blind spot was created in the middle of the windscreen by the rear vision mirror, maybe I could have lowered my seat to overcome this. The ride was not as comfortable as my 5-year-old Mondeo. The MG was definitely noisier inside the cabin. The engine seems to be more labouring than I am used to and I wonder how the MG HS would have gone on a trip traveling 1000 km from Canberra to Ballina carrying my wife and I and three dogs and all of our gear for 10 days holiday. I am sure we would have used lot more than the 56 litres of fuel one way that we did. However, the MG HS Essence feels very nice inside.
Agree
A friend of mine she has had one for 18 months
I was shocked at how good it is for the money
Good review mate, can you please review the Essence X? AWD 168kw!
This is a very informative review which I am quite happy with. My 9 year old Kia Sportage has died on me rather suddenly last week and the engine overhaul isn’t worth fixing at this juncture. The MG HS is in my sights and I’m currently weighing on the pros and cons. Appreciate this.
Out of interest, what did you go with in the end?
@@FalloutNewNarwhal I got the MG HS Grand Deluxe which I believe is the Trophy edition. Apparently, the call it differently here.
Why don't you just fit a used engine ?
It's a decent car to have. I have mine for 1.5 years. All pros mentioned are true. In terms of cons, the beeping also drives me bonkers, it goes through fuel quickly, and the front sensors are often affected by condensation and weather. Overall is been a good car for me and I feel the price was right for what I got
I am going to buy MG Hs .so you mean it's good car ?
Agree
A friend of mine has had one for 18 months
Shes had no problems & it drives great for the price
Thank you so much for the excellent video, Very very well presented and you are so easy to listen to
I love your channel and reviews from Nigeria 🇳🇬
One thing I don't understand is my $200 tablet is way smoother than most of car infotainment systems, I actually don't mind paying $200 more since I am already paying $30+k for a car, why can't they just freaking do it right?!
James agree
i may be completely wrong about this... but the higher number of a thing you manufacture, the cost goes down. If Apple had to produce 1000 tablets per year, they would cost a lot factoring in the R&D costs. Plus these are custom made with a lot of ports and designed to not hang up ever. They probably cost more than 500$ even with shitty processors.
Economy of scale bro the cars doesn't sell like normal tablets or phones I change a phone a every 8 months or so but its the same car for years so they probably couldn't afford it
Infotainment systems are made to last. They need to withstand sun, heat, shakes, time. No way your tablet would last 5-10 years in the same environment as a infotainment needs to be. I believe that’s why.
@@vinipaivas lol you joking right?
Does anybody know if there are plans for an EV version this as there are with the ZS?
Paul thinking of getting one but from what you saw how bad or good was the infotainment unit. I will only use andrio auto to be honest but what was the sound like. No subbie which is disappointing but I can always add one under the seating thinking of getting Anfield version which only just came out . Btw love watching your review. Thanks for keeping my entertained.
I bought this and within 10 days (and a rushed first service) drove it from Perth to Melbourne. Did roughly 8000km in three weeks and had the 10 000km service after only owning the car for 8 weeks!! Took sometime to get used to as this is the first automatic car I have ever owned (35 years of driving) and there are times when I do call it a 'Nanna' with all the beeping. Having said that I am loving it. I previously had the 2010 Honda CRV which was awesome but I was ready to get a new car and sell the Honda while it was still in good nick. I am enjoying it.
Really brilliant video I was looking at one yesterday thinking of changing from my vauxhall mokka t.d.i .. I really liked the look of the MG but now seen your review having second thoughts my mokka has 7000 miles on the clock and still runs well
So will watch your video again and have a re think
Thanks for taking the time to point out all the good and bad about the MG it is a well made informative video 👍🇬🇧
Thanks Paul - looks like MG are having a decent go at the mid-sized SUV segment and it appears to be good value for money - time will reveal if the in-built factory rust from Chinese metal emerges as it has done with some of the newer Chinese 4WD utes - the fuel economy is actually up around the averages for normally aspirated Subarus and would likely creep over 11 litres per 100km when all passengers are on board with luggage - nice interior and body colour - would also be interested to see the consistency of the body panel gaps - John in SA
Does anyone feel turbo lag in MG Hs?
MG sales are quite strong in my area of Wales, helped by a keen dealer which has two depots and also a Honda franchise. Honda have lost the plot really with lacklustre designs that are too expensive for what they are and a very limited model range. The price of the MG trounces most similar cars, which is again popular for a region renowned for its parsimonious population who have short arms and very deep pockets.
Good Day ,
Would you please make a review for MG ZST Core. Basically I am looking for it and it will be great if you could your suggestion on it.
How about Cabin noise of MG ZST CORE AND MG5 - do think it's brilliant or not ?
Hi I am looking at buying the MG ECITE CAN YOU PLEASE TELL ME IF THERE ARE TWO KEY FOBS WITH THIS MODEL
Regards TONY
I owned it in November 2020 as car looks great in her first sight. So far impressive but have a serious concern of beeping heat indicator at times which keep you busy seeing at the heat indicator while going for a drive even less than 100KM.
dct?
Looks like you've found a billiard table for the test drive, what's the ride like on bumpy roads?
I've been driving a HS for 3500km over the past 3 weeks.
It has developed a clunking noise behind/above the glovebox whenever you corner or go over speed bumps.
The Automatic Cruise Control is fabulous but it can randomly disengage which is annoying.
The gear changes are a bit clunky. There is excessive engine lag when you accelerate gently after a speed humps.
The one I drove has done 3,500 ks & we didn't feel or hear any noises at all, & defently no clunking at all in the trans or when in manual mode. Your s sounds as if it needs to go to the agent & be looked at.
Very nicely articulated. Thanks
Superb video Paul
Love your reviews . Are you doing a review on the MG 5 Essense ?? Cheers
Hi, which would you recommend between the MG HS excite and the Mitsubishi cross LS. I can either one for the same price , just not sure which is the better option . Thanks
Buy Mitsubishi. Don't buy chinese cars the quality is not there yet and the MG is basically owned by the chinese communist goverment, you really want to support economy of a country which regarded the whole west as an enemy to China.
Hi, I would appreciate if you could review the MG ZST Essence if you can. Keen to hear your views.

Hey Paul can you make a MG ZS comparison with the Haval Jolion! Tks!
just because it's made in China, so this guy checked everything carefully, if a BMW, he would just say "this car is great" without giving you any reason
I think you'll find he'll do the same things to so-called premium brands
and most of these snobs in comment section doesn't realize their bias are stupid and getting old as their knowledge is.
It doesn't matter. The more scutiny people impose on Chinese products mean the more opportunity for improvement. Take it as a compliment.
Inoffensive is the nicest thing I can say but it is not desirable in any way. Like others have said, it's heavily 'borrowed' the previous CX-5 styling and somehow made it look boring. Having said that, I do think Chinese cars will improve with every generation and will be a genuine wakeup call for some of the underperformers like Honda, Ford and Subaru. Super review, Paul. Pleasure to watch.
hi can you get a software upgrade to turn of the beeps
The new Excite X model with AWD and 2.0T would be great Paul 👍
It’s a beast of an SUV
Great review. Any idea on the service intervals? Is it every 10k or 15k?
It’s every 15,000 kms for the first service then it follows up with every 10,000 kms.
Great video, many thanks
Looks decent, especially compared to other chinese offerings, the ZS looks pretty decent in the flesh as well, have you driven the electric version Paul? what are you thoughts on it?
I'm currently in a ZS 2020 (rental) it's nice to look at but awful to drive. You feel every imperfection on the road and the feedback noise in the cabin, once you exceed 40mph, is horrendous. I assume it's the basic trim because the interior is quite unimpressive. Another disappointing feature across the range is that regardless of the trim there are NO tinted/privacy windows and NO Android Auto just CarPlay👎 I've had the ZS for 2 weeks and I still haven't figured out how to use cruise control (no manual provided). I spoke to an MG service mechanic and he said that the ZS has the most problems EVER with at least 3-4 of them being reported daily. He warned me against buying one as they need to get China's consent before doing any major checks otherwise is will invalidate the 7 year warranty. I don't like this car, at all. I wouldn't say MG is trash just this model
@@kasia2192 zs or zst? They're very different
I can tell you about the ZS EV. Not only it can do 0 - 100 km/h in 8.6 seconds. You can easily go fast in many situations like pulling away from traffic, accelerate from traffic lights, overtaking a slow car and more.
Did anyone tell you that you're Mike Myers brother? :) Excellent review! And hello from Egypt. Just bought this car two weeks ago and It's incredibly fun to drive. My only concern is its ability to last long. The maintenance costs are acceptable here.
Can you guys make a review of the ZST? 🙏
We will try and get our hands on one!
So much flex in the center console also indicates if squeaks and rattles will occur over time. If it's solid, it's more likely to hold together and last the test of time much better
The center console in his reviews of Toyotas flexes a bit but that doesn’t make them any less solid overall.
nah have friends that have this car and i doesnt move at all
Never noticed any issues with my console in nearly a year of ownership. But then I'm not an ape trying to swing from it!
smartly built, it has a future for sure, it also show that the engineers got an extensive knowledge of what the consumers hope for, they've done their homeworks
In the not too distant future, I would expect Chinese brands to do very well. Japan post WW2, was once in this 'space'. Paul, we've also visited multiple cities in China, I also know you've been to China and seen the traffic at various cities, & 'car take-up' is huge as is the traffic which is literally 'overwhelming.' Impressed with the MG HS at this time. wonder how servicing is? [ps. No car should ever include the nomenclature with an 'H'.]
It's very annoying having aircon integrated in the touch screen, it's always intuitive having aircon separate from infotainment touch screen.
Thinking of getting the MG 1
5 Manual Trophy, has any one got any thoughts about it?or already driving one.
Another excellent review, I am looking forward to the EV version.

I’m watching this. Have to say some of the things you’re not too keen on are perfect for people who have say cameras and expensive things they’d like to hide on long trips and the noises you’d maybe understand if you have kids and know things get left open, forgotten etc. Seems like a good family car so far.
Further to this. All the other cars you’re comparing it to are at least in the uk £5k-£10k more in price.
… and finally on engine size - the governments are making it compulsory that engine sizes be reduced to help global warming. The the ford Kuga, Kia Sportage all of them are around the same size in the UK
In the middle east the engine is a 2.0T 225HP with a full 12inch dash screen and a dual sun roof with 18 inch wheels and is for $21k usd but I own the rx8 7seater with the same engine
