Reviewing Australia's BEST SELLING small SUV is no small task (pardon the pun). Today we are reviewing the MG ZS-T, a turbo charged and cheap SUV from Chinese manufacturer MG. A few negative words have been said about the MG ZS-T in others reviews, but do we agree? Let's talk about how the MG ZS-T REALLY performs in today's review!

@@Pyjamarama11 MG's are way better to drive. Ultimately SUVs are not a driver's car. They're comfortable and get you from a to b practically but to expect anything different in this price point is ridiculous

My brother had an MGB in the early sixties. It's heartening to see that MG Badge again. I think MG has a big future in Australia. thanks Matt and Jacob.
Except the only thing in common with that old brand, is the letter M and the letter G

Apart from two letters in the name, there's nothing British about the new MG.

Here in the Philippines, there are two ac vents at the back and charging ports. Also, engine here produces 160HP/230NM. 😁

How is this one compared to the Haval Jolion?
I just spent a week in Tassie behind the wheel of a rental base model one.
Really drives home the fact there are no bad cars anymore. Any complaint I might have had would be solved by getting the higher spec one.

I have the exclusive 1.5 in Battersea blue its beautiful to drive has all the mods on it and I am in the uk. 8 cameras leatherette seats heated seats blind spot monitoring adaptive speed limiter . 5 USB ports on by the mirror and it's for the dash cam. What a class car for the money I paid £20017 as I had £255 back for car tax as mg paid the car tax but I put my free car tax on and they said keep the car tax money we paid as a thank you.
My partner and I are looking at buying ZST vibe, we tested the Vibe and Essence we have chosen to go with the vibe. Vibe does come with the 1.5L CVT and honestly its really not that bad it was still a smooth drive. My partner and I are both photographers so we pack the cars to it's limits as much as we could fit. Yes the Essence handle it a bit better going up steep hill and general handling but with that said I have zero complaints about the vibe. Only thing I'm upset about is the vibe doesn't come with heated seats. I'm 6ft4 and even when I'm sitting in the front or back seats it's pretty good.
@makingthemovebydarren9255 When we first start the car it is noisy but when we get going it's pretty quiet but also, we are listening to music and carry on.
We are planning on driving from Melbourne to Brisbane and back so in total that roughly 4000km once we do that I'll let you know how the drive was.

In India it's sold as ASTOR and ZS EV, it has a few more features, like back vents, a cute AI Robot thingy and, also it misses on a feature like Autopilot.

I liked the facelift they gave the ZST but, I'm surprised it dosen't have the new infotainment system from the ZS EV.
Looking great. I just wished the infotainment screen should be higher like a floating screen.
Would you rather have, for similar money, the just recently tested Haval Jolion S??
I mean honestly I’ve got it now for a rental/hire car and there nice but really dangerous they jump when you slam breaks and jump when you accelerate really delayed. Other than that it’s good but I still feel like you can avoid 90% of accident with a quicker reacting car

Hi Jacob I'm Australia & my newly ordered MG ZST Essence 1.3L Turbo 2023 built April has arrived & delivered to me, it has no red T (zsT )badge put on it.... yet ....as l questioned it along with no service book, yet, which also l questioned both are to arrive
Also l notice in your video there is a Pilot badge which l am assuming is standard ?
I think maybe this is another item I should query ?
Not a good start hey... It's not detrimental to the workings of the car but this is something that l should not be chasing & only apparent when l mentioned it
I drive a MG ZST paid 33k for the top spec. It's crap. For many reasons. I just booked a rav4 awd cruiser hybrid. Current wait time is 2 years but I bet it will come down. Probably closer to 12 to 18 months. The mg zst uses premium petrol, you can't turn off or on the air con when your on a voice call, the sun roof has the most paper thin roof cover. So the car is on fire on a average sun day in Australia. The fake leather sux and gets super hot after a few minutes in the sun, you literally need to open the doors and let the car cool down. The touch screen has an almost 2 second delay between touches, it's frustratingly slow. So anyone saying buy a chinese car. Think twice. Think 3 times. Yes it's cheaper but so many things will piss you off about the car.

What is with the seats scalding every body part that touches it even through clothing? Literally 2 minutes in the afternoon sun yesterday and we were screaming! Never experienced this in my life! 😫🥵
I think people forget to mention MG designer's ex MG Rover Group , engineer's based in London UK, still have alot of Engineering imput aid in designs aswell the chinese SAIC MG work in collaboration with ...

In central europe we dont have option for this Trophy version. Only basic ZS with 1.5L TGI or 1.0L TGI with turbo which is the most powerful 82kW/111hp. No MG pilot for us... I would pick this 1.3L but rest of car is exactly same as normal ZS

Great little cars but the HS AWD is on another level.
The MG ZS may have a 4 star safety review but so has my Ford Puma (which until last year had a five star rating) and many other cars tested in the last year due to new safety standards including some luxury ones. This means manufactures are updating models to ensure a 5 star rating but some cars will be more expensive.
Safety rating is also based on the size of the car so a 4 star SUV will be absolutely fine

If I have to buy exotic, I think I'd prefer the Renault Captur or the magnificent European-made Peugeot 2008. Funny fact : Essence means Petrol in French.
Had a loan of one when our Hyundai was in getting paint. What a beautifully finished & equipped car. If you didn't drive it you would give it high marks.
Then you drive it - motor best summed up as thrashy. Lacks power with poor fuel consumption.
To add insult to MG the once famous name.

The seats are lower quality than what you get here. Here you get dual tone, perforated leatherette seats instead of the black ones. The black ones comes on lower end ones. The dual tone perforated seats are much much much better.
Also the infotainment system is from lowest end variants too.
Also center armrest and center headrest + 3point seat belt are on mid variant n above.

They are made in india china and thailand. Its european car brand rechnology is european engine is euro. Reliability for sure is good

I would not want to go anywhere near one. Glad it’s improved but just nooo way. To cheaply built and the media system was so slow to respond.

Maybe looks can be deceiving! Some cars can look great, but arent necessarily . Give it 10k & it'll be interesting to see if it holds up.
My wife owned a new ZS EV for 90 days and 13,665km. It was a decent little car but let down by terrible suspension tune and a lane keeping system that borders on dangerous. Better cars are not much more expensive.

I wonder if these Chinese brands make this vehicles different for different countries. Theres a lot of Chinese brands in Mexico and yeah they are not good. 1 year good, after that the problems start to appear.
Really must have driven something different. I love the styling but that’s about it. Didn’t realise that companies made “bad” cars anymore. The ride is atrocious, the seats are unbelievably uncomfortable, the tech failed in dangerous ways (wing mirrors refusing to fold out on a motorway, screen resetting when trying to read navigation directions!) and the engine and gearbox are hateful. Even simple tasks like updating the AC was laggy, forcing you to take your eyes off the road to see if it responded to the button presses or not. And the cruise control button stopped working during a drive (would increase speed but fail to decrease speed beyond the initially set speed) - buts like this are dangerous and completely unacceptable. People compare this to SUVs, but it’s much better to buy a smaller car for the same money that won’t leave you feeling sore and frustrated. Even the parcel shelf had broken within days, and how basic a piece of engineering is that to get wrong? I would take a Dacia, Renault, Skoda, Vauxhall, or practically any non-Chinese cheap car over this any day. Do not think you’re getting a bargain because it looks like an SUV - you are getting precisely what you paid for. Cheap crap. Remember your life is in their hands and think wisely!
And don’t forget the cup holders can’t fit two coffees side by side. I mean come on!

Hmmm, it's a triple, no rear armrest, needs 95 RON, tombstone buckets, no rear centre headrest, small boot, not that cheap. It does have a proper auto, factory backed operation (no distributors), 7 year warranty... these are positives. On balance, it''s a no from me though.

Just hired one in Tassie for a week over Easter. I can say it's very well made. However, I hate it. The steering is weird not hard but very tiring. The accelerator is jerky and makes driving unpleasant

@@kevinleaw3798 how is 7-8L for every 100km with a mix of highway/city drive bad? It's about average to good for a small SUV. A mustang wouldn't even get close to under 10L/100

My friend bought one 2 months ago. It has been towed in for warranty once already, and been in the shop twice on top of that. The MG mechanic said they are poor cars. You get what you pay for. Chinese junk with poor fuel economy.
A Honda mechanic said that to me one day as well. He also said that you should go buy a bike because it's reliable and then said he hears voices from the aircon.

Not sure this means much. Work colleague bought a ford 150. It has spent numerous times in the workshop. Do you then say American junk and poor fuel economy from one example?
