I get shocked when some African creators visited Brazil, Cuba, Colombia etc just for the fun of it without dishing out the historical and educational aspects that will benefit Africans and African descendants. I'm not saying it's a must and maybe some of those people ain't just into that aspect of Africanism or know much of the history, but i feel as Africans we have a duty, cos there's a narrative out there by some forces against us, especially the supremacists trying everything to keep the disconnect between Africa and it's descendants in the new world. Wode Maya is a blessing to this generation and posterity will judge him for eternity.
Why don't copy him and be as authentic. We complain too much; look for what is working for Wode and work on offering better if complimentary videos.

Be careful with that "Afrikaans" word; its origin is from the Dutch Boer of South Africa, who were the ones that instituted Apartheid. They call themselves "Afrikaner" and call their language, "Afrikaans", which is, a Dutch dialect. The word you're looking for is spelt "Afrikan".

Afro Brazilians are more Afrocentric than the Afro Americans. They have really preserved the way of life of their ancestors more. A walk through that market and I might think I’m in Agbogbloshie market of Ghana.
Allow this Jamaican to speak on behalf of AA. Being a minority in an environment that judges you, and constantly invent ways to ridicule your speech and culture. Not to mention demand that in order to succeed and progress, you must conform to strange and weird majority standards. In those circumstances, I think it's going to be difficult to retain the ways of your ancestors. Google the term 'Jim Crow', and please try to read about 'red lining', about strange fruit hanging from Poplar trees in the south, then, you MIGHT begin to understand our AA family's struggle to stay alive, let alone retain practice of their ancestor's customs.

Many Africans in the west have maintained a lot of the culture that they brought with them .Many Sfricans on the continent don't even pray in their own languages.I suggest that you do some more research on the brutality of the transatlantic human trading and expand your knowledge.

Point of correction. Cocoa wasn't brought from Ghana to Brazil. It was the other way round . Tetteh Quarshie was the one that brought it to Ghana and had it planted at Mampong Akwapim

Cocoa is original fruit from the brazilian amazon basin all the way up to Mexico.... it was the oposite way, the British Empire took the seeds from The Americas to plant it in the called British Gold Coast in Africa , same happened with Rubber Tree to Asia, and with Coffee from Ethiopia to the Americas ;)

Major correction Maya, Cocoa did NOT come from Ghana to Brazil. Cocoa is native to the Americas(in particular central and south america). It was exported from there to the rest of the world. Thank you.
Correct. Many don't realise this. Cacao was used by the native Americans for all sorts. It was brought to West Africans during the trans Atlantic slave period. The opposite was palm oil, which is native to the Niger delta regiin of Nigeria and was taken over to the Americas. We live and learn.

I think she is trying to refer it being imported from Ghana. Not that it’s original from Ghana. Cocoa is much cheaper to get from Africa. Sadly most coming from exploiting the farmers. As I seen Cocoa from the Americas being more pricer and it somewhat supporting indigenous farmers. Who are predominantly the growers.
Cassava is also original from South America, a traditional crop from Brazilian natives, that was also taken to Africa by the Portuguese in colonial times.
In Brazil it has different names depending on the region, that were inherited from different Amerindian tribes: Mandioca, Aipim, and Macaxeira are the most common, but there are more names for the same plant.
Actually there are several African habits that were inherited from Brazil, taken to Africa by the Portuguese.

Today there are more than 300 native ethnic groups in Brazil (before colonization there were even more), with more than 270 native languages, that can be categorized in two main branches with sub-families:
Macro-Jê: Boróro, Guató, Jê, Karajá, Krenák, Maxakali, Ofayé, Rikbaktsa, and Yatê.
Tupi: Arikém, Awetí, Jurúna, Mawé, Mondé, Mundurukú, Puroborá, Ramaráma, Tuparí, and Tupi-Guarani.
They domesticated important crops like cassava, corn, sweet-potato, chili peppers, cashew, pineapple, peanuts, papaya, squash, and beans. They also introduced the habit of daily bath to Europeans.
