"Sometimes people watching this show mistake my casual way of interacting with locals for a lack of reverence or outright disrespect. Reality, I'm never forced to put on a fake display of deference for the simple reason that I don't pity these people." Sonny perfectly put into words what I have always thought about his interaction with different people from different cultures. He clearly has no intention of degrading people or disrespecting them. If the way he goes about interacting with people upsets you, it says more about yourself than him. Keep up the good work Sonny
When you try to tell people on here that they don’t need or expect your help and don’t want to live the American life style they get upset because they think everybody wants America’s help
The way you blend in with the locals is the best thing about this show. When people from such unique and distinct culture welcome you with warm smiles and open hearts, it only means that you and your team connect with them by the universal language of love and respect.
Sonny letting us know that this tribe has laughed and smiled more than any where he has ever been; ugh i almost cried. Knowing these people live so simply and can just be so happy is amazing. How he mentioned he didn't pitty them i love it he's so great at what he does.
Living a simple life is what we all need, we don’t need to complicate life! I agree there’s no need to feel pity towards them they are happy and live life the way they used to be. I feel like they’re much happier than us, because our society complicates life for us as we live every single day.
I never once thought the way you interact with these foreign cultures came off as disrespectful. The thing I like most about this show is how authentic it is and you are. I think too many people don't understand that their forced, excessive displays of respect are patronizing and alienating. You immerse yourself in a very real way, as someone fascinated and in love with foreign cultures and traditions without assuming the role of someone who believes appropriation is the only way to experience them. You don't have to pretend to enjoy drinking cow bile in order to show respect. You almost threw up, and you all laughed together and you thanked them for allowing you to experience their traditions with them and that is the most human and respectful thing you can do. That is part of what makes this channel so utterly fantastic.
The title of the video is problematic though. Imagine inviting someone over for dinner then find out they did a video with this kind of negative headline
This is one of the best series, Sonny has ever done. His interactions with all the people he meets, makes it seem like you’re actually there with him. Great job!
💡 Was America really part of the country of India and that the Indians were not red, but the British called them the Red Indians to isolate them from India and after the British held them execution and rape parties for women?
I love the way Sonny is genuine and how he fits in any environment without even pretending. That’s the main reason I watch your programs and I’ve learn’t a lot of humility but just watching how you behave. Thanks for being you and I’m sure many of us are learning how to appreciate people who are different from our make up and backgrounds. Keep up the good work bro
98% of the travel guides you get are amazing. This guy, is no exception. It’s amazing that he left the tribe at 26 to learn English and to be the voice for his people. Bruh that so cool, not even going to lie.
I love how authentic they are and true to themselves. They’re not at all offended about you making faces at the bile or the raw liver because they know its in good fun and they are secure in who they are. Such a good energy
I hereby declare Sonny and the whole Best Ever Food Review Show team as honorary anthropologists for their outstanding and inspiring work of making the world safe for human differences and teaching us what it means to be human around the world. Keep up the wonderful work!
@Luis Tejeda 💡 Was America really part of the country of India and that the Indians were not red, but the British called them the Red Indians to isolate them from India and after the British held them execution and rape parties for women?
So much respect to you and your team Sonny. You’re able to show viewers parts of the world we would probably never get to see portrayed (at least fairly/accurately) in media. It also doesn’t hurt that your filming, editing, and hosting is always 10/10
Sonny’s wife is so lucky. He’ll eat anything she cooks for him! Jokes aside, I admire Sonny and the whole team for allowing viewers to experience such enriching moments vicariously through him. Thank you and I love your work.
this man has my utmost respect. dude is willing to eat raw liver drenched in blood and gastric juice to experience their culture. i love this show and sonny.
I am sure he took preventive medication to kill all the parasites. There is no way a Westerner can eat that and not get sick. I know some people who went to Africa and just drank water and ate cooked food from a street vendor and got so violently sick, they had to be flown out on emergency flight, they came close dying. These people are used to it but our digestive systems are not used to it.
💡 Was America really part of the country of India and that the Indians were not red, but the British called them the Red Indians to isolate them from India and after the British held them execution and rape parties for women?
I love how you respect every culture you encounter, you try and appreciate everything they do even if you think it’s disgusting… it’s really inspirational
I love the guy who is showing him around and how decade he is for his tribe and how he still comes back to them even tho he is grown up and moved on!!:’))
"The intestines taste somewhat clean," as it cuts to a shot of what looks like straight up shit in the food. This guy is a trooper for diving straight into it. You can tell he wants the full experience and not to offend the people who extend their hospitality. What a guy, what a show.
Kudos to Sonny. Every time I see episodes like this I remember that video conversation he had with Andrew Zimmern, and how Andrew described how when he was starting his culinary adventure show he didnt have an exotic palette yet, and after the durian fruit incident he decided no matter what he would try everything as the people do, accept it, and try not to insult their culture or ways of doing things. Sonny I think had been doing this well before this conversation with Andrew, but I think he really took his story to heart and his appreciation and accepting of other peoples ways really shows.
@@curtisthomas2670 It actually doesn't taste bad, it's a new unique taste and texture which if you have never tried are not accustomed to. Still millions love it after a while, the smell is what outs people off.
As a West African, born and raised, the shock value of this video is crazy! It’s so fascinating to think and know that my next door neighbors are still very much in touch with their ancient way of life! I really appreciate Sonny for all his work and allowing us experience theses cultures through his cus honestly, I could never!
In Mali and Niger you can still find villages that practice a lot of their traditions, some are Muslims, dogon people practice their own religion, but all of them have traditions that you don't see in cities
This tribe is definitely different than others and that makes it even more interesting to watch. I love that you're very humble and respectful towards them but also give us your honest opinion on things that you don't like. This Africa tour episodes are probably one of the best episodes of your whole channel.
Agreed. I am actually sad that the videos (with this tribe) are done now. I like the datoga tribe! And of course agree completely with what you said about Sonny! I think that the Africa tour series is probably (one of) the best on his channel because many of the other cultures/countries, we would be able to visit these countries easier. And food wise is easier to come across their food. Except a few other places. But this Africa series wouldn’t be easy to visit ourselves (I think?). So we aren’t really exposed to it like other countries/cultures. That is what really makes it interesting for me personally. I too have really loved this series! I hate that Sonny has to say that he doesn’t do this for shock value but to live like them. For me, I wouldn’t even doubt he did this for shock value had he never said it. But RUclips and its rules still don’t like it I think. But this broadens your horizons. To see how other people live.. which is very interesting to see and learn about.
@@Melon_Cloud it’s easy to visit a lot of African countries. West and in the East. Tanzania is in east Africa. Also not all countries have these kind of tribes. So unfortunately you won’t see things as shocking as eating raw meat in most other African countries. I for one never grew up with that. Born and raised in west Africa (2 different countries) and this is equally shocking to me! But I do love this series and love to learn about our neighbors as we don’t get taught these things.
@@titikay4real Yes, I meant visiting a tribe especially. I know at least a few African countries are relatively easy to travel to. Might also depend on where you are from and of course travel experience to be safe. But the tribes is a different story. Just visiting a tribe / experience a tiny part of the nomadic lifestyle, even if just for a day.. (though you can’t experience the nomadic lifestyle in a day, I am aware). I am very interested in different cultures. And just loved this Africa series. Such a stark contrast with Europe where I am from.
@@Melon_Cloud yeah I get you. I currently live in Europe and I can tell you, life is much more stressful compared to where I’m from in west Africa (Ghana and Nigeria). And the sense of community is not as much so you can easily feel lonely, a little less happy face’s 😅. I personally don’t have the courage to do what Sonny does and I appreciate him for it!
The Datoba people, especially the women, seems so social and happy. They trying to communicate in any ways just because they being curious and friendly. Thanks for your journey, looking forward to your next adventure. Sonny is the man.
You are so awesome with people! No matter where you go or what the circumstances, you are open, friendly and welcoming to these experiences! Thanks for sharing these videos.
I'd like to point out, the production quality of your show is so good now. No big tv network show is any better. Camera work, editing, sound. Your team deserves praise!
I love how Sonny does all of his homework for wherever he goes.. he embraces every culture. This is living the life. And loving the knowledge of all cultures. 🥰
From living around the world for the past 15 years (also in Tanzania) thank you for showing us how the great world lives. Americans need to see more of this. I've learned in the world we may look different, dress different, speak different, but in the core we are all the same and want the same basic needs of life, health, happiness, and family.
I like how respectful he is even when he obviously does not like the food what so ever. Respecting culture and tradition and especially the food is very important to people around the world.
One of my favorite series so far, Im happy you mentioned that you do not pity them and one way isn't better, it is just different. It is the idea that one way is better that has caused a lot of turmoil throughout history and the complete eradication of unique cultures. It is so awesome to see a different picture of Africa, these people are happy and friendly. Thank you Sonny!
I honestly can't believe that I'm an African yet I haven't experienced all of this...soooo interesting. THANK YOU Sonny for showcasing all these tribes through food
Founding this channel is one of the best thing that ever happened to me. I know there's someone else out there doing food reviews and I have lots of respect for them but this channel will forever be my favourite. Sonny and team.... you're the best.
Sonny is just Sonny! He's human colorblind 😁 never ever disrespectful to anyone, everything and fascinated by different cultures. He understands cultures via his table mannerisms he copies to show his hosts that he means to learn about their cultures of how they sustain themselves!
You’re a legend Sonny! You ate the raw blood like a champ once again proving you have nothing but respect for culture and traditions that differ from your own. Thank you for spreading culture awareness and being a champion for diversity all across the world. I love the fact that not only are you reviewing the different cuisines but a lot of times you talk about specific traits that differentiate one ethnic group from another.
I could never bring myself to eat something like (raw) but I respect and understand that’s their culture. It’s crazy how we are all the same but we are different in our own ways. Proud of you Sonny 😅
You don't even have the same microbiome as they do. Could be that you'd get sick if you'd eat that - could be that they would get sick if they do not eat it...as cases of Indian students in the USA have shown - they got sick because of the lack of certain bacteria in the food they have in India but not in the USA (yeah...despite the "Indian" cuisine in the US ... which is a westernized version...and Indians who live long un the US adapted...thus they don't have the same microbiome as Indians from India.
And then theres people like me that was offered 20 bucks to eat 8 day old pig liver in bio class and did it without hesitation. Thank god I didn't get sick.
Pretty awesome how Sonny tries all these different cultures' foods, and he always tries to portray these cultures in the most positive way possible, even when he's about to barf up what he just ate. Kudos to Sonny for being so respectful and adventurous!
Unfortunately, the lowest tier that they offer is 5$ a month and there is no option to pledge anything lower. I believe that might hinder a lot of people from pledging a dollar or two each month.
Sonny those bowls are calabashes! They were a must have in our kitchens in the villages. We used them mostly for porridge, milk and vegetables. Thanks for entertaining us and teaching us different world cultures.
Probably the most authentic and real food review show I've seen. And this dude has to be one of the realist people I've seen. I got alot of respect for him and his team
I have absolutely LOVED this series. At times hard to watch the blood and intestine parts but so eye opening and such an experience brought through to the people watching. Thank you and thank you for your bravery, having stepped out of every comfort zone to bring us such an in depth look into these beautiful peoples lives.
More people should be like Sonny... Open, fun, honest, and curious to learn from others! You're a fucking legend bro! Been watching you for years now and every video I learn something new about somewhere I've never been! Keep on keeping on!!!!
I am fascinated at all the interesting things I am witnessing on this site/channel! There is nothing boring about living on this planet!! People learn to eat according to what is available. My gag reflex would definitely kick in with all that raw blood! Truth be known, we Americans lead such an abundant life!! We have lost appreciation for the challenging lives of peoples in less abundant countries.
Can we talk about how gorgeous their skin is? It’s absolutely glowing. In more developed countries, we slather on all sorts of creams and makeup to make our skin look that smooth and shiny, but these people just have this natural beauty about them that would make anyone jealous.
I would personally like to thank you and your crew for taking me to a place I could never understand living the life I live today. You said during the show that life is what you are introduced to and surrounded by. Nothing is ever made more sense to me in my life than this statement you made. Different cultures different parts of the world and different surroundings and introductions to life is something we are all susceptible to at birth. I have never traveled out of the United States and I have visited a small portion of the US for limited times. I've lived most of my life on the East Coast from New Jersey to Florida Keys. I met different people from different cultures from living in international cities. Your show is taking me around the world and introduced to my eyes and ears things I could never see or understand. I've held many jobs in my life and food is one of them from being a dishwasher to a restaurant manager and a span of 30 years. The way that you show people raising their own food and literally depending on it for their lifestyle is something that is totally awesome to me. I greatly appreciate your content and your videos because it is the greatest learning experience I believe one can actually see and hear thank you again
Dude you do not need to explain the "WHY" you interact with people in a certain way. You are a traveler like I. When in the moment and sucked up in it, these people can feel it to and its amazing to watch. The energy you give off is calming. People understand fun and it brings the best out in them also. You are not judgmental in any way and totally you are open minded i love it
“So there’s nothing missing?” “No.” In a place where we are always tempted to reach for “more” and challenged by the idea that what we have is not enough, it is really refreshing AND sobering to hear a people say “Nothing is missing.”
These episodes are pure gold! I especially love your humour and the way you gel with the people. It is a pleasure to learn about other cultures through your channel. Africans are generally happy and friendly people. Looking forward to watching many more shows. Keep enlightening us. Much love from Kenya.
Sonny, you and your team are the most wholesome. You're the only food reviewer that I keep watching and supporting because of how much respect and openness and kindness you have for everyone and group you share with us. Even when you don't like something, the way you relay it doesn't come off arrogant or with disdain. You're so good at what you do and how you share the unseen world with the rest of us in their authenticity.
it's my first time to see him feel grossed of food , but I understand it's too much for him and he showed a lot of respect to them and tried everything, the best show ever ❤️
11:16 omg! When I rewatched this part, I was cried because I saw that you had tried to eat their food for us, and you have tried to be respected, polite to their cultures. Thank you for doing these food shows. ❤️
This man is like a mild Bear Grylls almost. Eating raw blood and all the other things he has eaten throughout his tours, is unbelievable. It's beyond anyone I have ever seen, other than survival specialists
Your always welcome to Tanzania, The peacefully country in the world. You will see that smile all over across the country because that is who we are, we love you men.✌

I have a lot of respect for this guys stomach. I went back home after 9 years in the USA and I got sick the first 3 days for eat the food bc I have a terrible week stomach. RESPECT !!

I have had 10 exchange students from many different locations. When asked about the culture, I reply in the same way as you. The cultures are not good or bad, just different. The manner I treated these kids (as family - exchange sons) and as a result I now have many exchange families in many different lands and I love it. They are part of my family and I am part of theirs.
Thanks for ALWAYS keeping it 100% Sonny!!! It’s OK to not like all foods, while still remaining respectful. You’re an excellent host and we are all cringing on our screens right with you! 😂.It’s beautiful to see other peoples cultures and feel like we’re experiencing it through your content.

21:16 Little quick nuanced scenes like this that is an afterthought, often can show a lot. The way she is chilling, all comfy, leaning into Sonny, with her elbow just resting on his thigh, just eating, relaxing and perfectly at ease, shows not how loving these people are, but how Sonny conveys himself to be, earning a level of trust and comfort that can only be received when you are genuinely a person that cares, doesn't judge, and openly accepting. I thought 8M Subs is crazy high, but this Channel deserves 3Xs that many Subs.
I can’t believe some of your viewers think you’re disrespectful to the people you meet. I’ve seen so many of your videos and when it comes to your interactions with the locals I’ve only ever found you to be warm, inquisitive, genuinely interested eager to learn and incredibly friendly. All the people who say otherwise are idiots.
I agree, they're very understanding that it's all new to him and he may not like everything he tries. They're all laughing along with him and enjoying his company so I feel like if he really was being disrespectful they'd let him know one way or another.
He has a very strong stomach. I’m scared of insects moreover to eat them , and it’s not everything is good to eat . You shouldn’t put any and any thing in your stomach for health reasons because the bible says we shouldn’t eat anything with the blood. Blood is where all disease comes from also certain insects and though it’s their culture I wouldn’t ruin my health in trying things that would make me sick .

I’m from Ethiopia 🇪🇹 and when I saw him dipping raw meat in the bile, I knew he wasn’t messing around. I lived in the city so we didn’t have to kill the animals ourselves but whenever there is a holiday The whole neighborhood gets like five cows and do the killing and butchering themselves. There is a sauce that is made from the bile and they put some other stuff in it but I was just a kid so I don’t know what other stuff they put in it, but I do remember the bile being The most disgusting thing that I have ever tried so far. It was nasty, disgusting and the smell was horrible. I hated it so much. I remembered how one of my friend tried The bile alone n throw up right away. I never tried it did because of the way it smelled. Couldn’t even get it close to my mouth lol. All in all, it was a great video.
In the west we never use bile in cooking..in fact if the gall bladder ruptures and contaminates the meat is is considered ruined. Animal waste products are not meant to be eaten
I m from Ethiopia, born & raised in Addis Ababa. I never seen bile used as a sauce.. we eat raw meat with chili powder, butter and other spices. In my area I’ve never seen anybody drinking blood. OMG I am shocked!I noticed a lot similarities between these people & us, Ethiopian. The skin, the features…. & Ethiopian country side living style. Wow! I bet these tribe originated from Ethiopia. Thank you Sonny, I m learning a lot

I am sure he took preventive medication to kill all the parasites. There is no way a Westerner can eat that and not get sick. I know some people who went to Africa and just drank water and ate cooked food from a street vendor and got so violently sick, they had to be flown out on emergency flight, they came close dying.
What do you mean by the Durian fruit incident? I'm curious
He was offered durian fruit but it tasted so bad he spat it out, and the person who offered it felt offended - something like that if l recall

To see how other people live.. which is very interesting to see and learn about.
true
@@realcomm192 bye- the ladies did not seem offended, so you seem to be the only one who has a problem with him disliking food. Is he supposed to find every single meal delicious???
@@realcomm192 he took a bite of everything that had to offer, knowing that it will not be good. He did not like it but, at least he tried. If I was offered any of these, I would not have accepted considering I have a terrible gag reflex and would be far more traumatized. The tribe clearly understand and don’t expect him to live it, it seems.
Same here in Sudan we also have that sauce.
"Damn this man is willing to eat anything"
~what the Tribe was probably thinking HAHAHA
Probably not, that's normal for them.
I love when you are w tribes that still live by their own strength and tradition. Such innocence. Heartwarming. I pray that they are able to continue without outside influence.
