I am not new to computers and used this to see if there was something special to look for inside of Sony's crazy folder structure on the SD card. So, very helpful to see that I was grabbing the right files and that everything else is actually extra.

@@Jason_Hermann my sony zv1 doesn't want to connect to my MacBook pro anymore. it used to work and then boom - just stopped working. I tried changing settings again but nothing! does anyone know what can I DO? I tried different MacBooks and not working on any of them. I tried changing the usb connection to Auto - then MTP - not working on both. the camera does look like it gets power from the laptop but it wont show as connected wit usb on the screen and also the laptop itself doesn't show it in external devices in finder. what can I do, I need help please.

Hi Jay, when I turn my camera on while it is linked to the computer, the camera's drives don't show up at all. Is there an update I need to do on my A6400 to have the computer recognize it?
Have you tried another usb cable? Some cables are only for charing while others also have data...
@@Jason_Hermann I didn't have it on Mass Storage. Now it works perfectly. I kept watching your video and did it step by step and that's when I realized I had it on PC Remote. Switched it over and it's all good now. Thanks bro!

Hi. I just bought a ZV-1. I use it all the time on a mount and it's annoying that I have to remove it from the mount to get the SD card out every time I want to upload data to my PC. Is there a way of getting the films from the camera via the USB cable?
Yes, you can plug the camera in with the USB cable that came with the camera and import the video that way also so you do not need to remove the memory card. That is why I usually do as well ;)

That sucks, I hate windows... Have you tried importing from the video software itself (premier pro)? Computer up to date?
@@Jason_Hermann my PC is 1 yr old.. I hate windows too!! I have worked it out.. in USB settings on the camera, change to MTP from Auto. I can't delete videos, I have to use the camera for that, but i can download without taking the card out!!!

Thanks pal, i needed to know all of this. Pics werent too bad.. but i have a couple of videos off of my 6600 and couldndt fine them with the pics... looking in PRIVATE and then m4root solved that issue. Wow... they could just use the words VIDEO.. and make it easier on us newbs.. haha.. thanks

What do you do with the memory card after you transfer the pics/videos to the Mac? Do you delete them right way? …
AND what type of external hard drives are quality and simple to use. (I have a 2 terabyte WD easy store and it is so complicated to set up, it’s basically collecting dust because I get frustrated setting it up)
I put the memory card back in the camera and format the card to delete everything once I have my computer backed up with Time Machine. As far as setting up an external hard drive, yes it is harder than it should be I agree. It needs to be set up for Mac, so I actually watched a RUclips tutorial on how-to do it just to make sure I did not screw it up. Here's a good one: ruclips.net/video/9i4KLqjYoZA/видео.html

It's not really better or worse one way or the other. I use a memory card reader and take the card out most of the time. One advantage to using the cable and camera, is the camera will charge for your while plugged in and turned off. SO, you can get the photos off, then eject the "camera/ card" then turn the camera off, but leave it plugged in to charge as you play with the photos and videos on your computer for example.

Thanks, Jason, for this tutorial. Between downloading directly from your camera versus from an external SD card reader, which would you recommend? I worry with the external reader that I'm adding wear and tear to my SD card and going directly from the camera will over time wear down the camera.

When I attach my camera to my computer the grey box that says 'untitled' pops up but the external drives don't pop up below. Am I doing something wrong? Or do they just take a long time to download? I waited like 30 minutes and nothing changed.

Hi! So I'm running into a problem. My video is not showing up on my SD card and nothing in my clips folder. But when I go through my photos/videos in my camera it's there. I don't know why my videos are showing up in my camera but not in my clips folder to transfer it for editing. HELP!
