Even when it was my first time there, or whether it was a busy city or surrounded by forest, with no possible way to commit crime. I never saw police go after the caller, even when he was aware I wasn't a criminal or doing anything illegal

You couldn't leave the old "fool" alone and had to keep engaging. You became the problem and the manager had to step in because you were creating a disturbance. Know when to make your strut of freedom triumphantly and quietly! A moment of silence is a lot more powerful than a screaming protest.
Usually, I side with the auditor, but in this instance, I agree with you. Stop engaging fools. Quietly just wait for the police to arrive. Calling the old fool names doesn't help & makes you look like the one in the wrong.
