The contrast between NZ and Switzerland at the moment is lovely. Our trees are looking a little the same... with blossoms finishing and leaves growing. The light at the moment is the same (I'm at 44° south). Your snow hasn't really started... our is just finishing. Switzerland is just so much more neater. A lot of thought and care has gone into the infrastructure. We don't have passenger trains on the south island. Just ❤ these videos. ❤ thank you Aksense... ❤ from NZ 🇳🇿
I’m not gonna lie. I’ve been binge watching all of this train trips. The views of Switzerland are just incredible and beautiful. Seeing this in person would be surreal. I wish I could visit in the near future. I need to save up more money because this country is expensive. 🚂🚊🇨🇭🫶🏻
@@AKSense I hope you could link or share the prices of the train ticket. So people like me would have an idea and opportunity to know what are the prices from point A to point B.
Judging from the traffic jam at 9:36 the rear of the train was over the level crossing again? Something I noticed last summer as well when I took this train and was sitting in the last carriage. Is that always the case or do they only run trains this long on certain days?
There are several Stations where the Train stops over the Road on this Route: Schwendi, Burglauenen, Lütschental and Wilderswil, plus there are Roads so close to several Stations that the Barrier already goes down when the Train enters the Station from the other side... And yes, the Trains are always that long. they even are double the length between Zweilütschinen and Interlaken Ost. In Zweilütschinen the Road crosses over both the Grindelwald- and the Lauterbrunnenline, so Traffic to Grindelwald has to stop twice... But as this Railway is THE Moneymaker in the Region (Jungfraujoch) and there's alrady as is way too many Cars going up and down the Valley, there's likely nothing that will be improved on those Roads...
Toothbrush and Toothpaste, since it's called Zahnrad und Zahnstange in German (Toothwheel and Toothrail) 🤣🤣🤣 The constant Sqeaking is from the Wheels themselves, the BOB is a Narrowgauge (1m) Railway and runs quite tight Curves which makes the Wheelflanges grind against the Rails quite heavily. It has always been a noisy Railway, I can't remember it otherwise. What i have observed is that the new Trains seem to squeak even more than the old ones did... Greetings from the Region :)
Very interesting railway teknology, and I would like to ask some questions. What is the gauge? How steep is it at the steepest? Why use the cogwheel system driving downhill? What is speed limits? In Norway I think the normal/max climb is 2 %, but "Flåmsbanen" has 5% (tourist railway). Would really apreciate som answers.
- BOB Berner Oberland Bahn Running from Interlaken to Lauterbrunnen and Grindelwald - Narrowgauge 1m (1000mm) - Opened 1.Juli 1890, Electrified 1914 with 1500V DC Overhead - Steepest Incline 12% - Cogwhheel is a absolute must have to be able to brake downhill, otherwise the Train would just slide down the Hill on wet Tracks (Rain/Snow), as Metal Wheels on wet Metal Rails have no Grip at all and Sanding alone doesn't help at 12% Incline... - It uses the "System Riggenbach" Cograil - Downhill on the Cograilsections is Vmax. 30km/h, the fastest Sections of the BOB is `~60km/h - The whole Line is only 23.7km, starting as one very long Train at Interlaken Ost Station The Train then splits in two at Zweilütschinen Station. The first Part continues straight ahead to Lauterbrunnen, the second Half diverts to Grindelwald.
Grindelwald Terminal is a completely new Station, so it's either old Signals out of use waiting to be removed, or new Signals not yet connected into the System
@Zweilutschinen: Black Lutschinen train (from Grindelwald) joins White Lutschinen train (from Lauterbrunnen valley) hereinafter runs as a combined Train😅😅😅

Sure, the trip is relatively short, but the autumn weather at the time of the video was _outstanding_ .
Glad you enjoyed this ride 😊

Perhaps a touch of WD-40 on that Cog?
Sure 😜😀

@ Many thanks! Every step forward in technological advancement seems to be accompanied by a unique complication!
😍
The scenery is almost too perfect as if a model railway diorama.

1000 mm or 800 mm ?
1000 mm
Curious why the trackside signals were out of service during the first 4 minutes of the video.
Grindelwald Terminal is a completely new Station, so it's either old Signals out of use waiting to be removed, or new Signals not yet connected into the System
where is 4K?
Check your browser or settings 😉
It's there in the Settings menu. Switched over without problem for me.

😜😂😂
PUERTO RICO FIRST
Would be better just to hear the train noise and not have the constant drum roll
That's the Cogwheel, not a drumroll🤣🤣🤣
It is essential to get enough traction going uphill, and to be able to stop the Train going downhill.
