    I have been told FRAM supplies Honda with their blue oil filter 15400-PLM-A02 and Subaru 15208AA15A. They fit my 2007 Honda Civic and my 2016 Subaru Crosstrek.
    They are pretty much identical. Inter relief seems identical, the thread is correct, o-ring is correct. The only difference I see is the Subaru has a 66MM (2.560) 14 flats. The Honda is 65MM (2.520) 14 Flats. The common cup wrench in quality aluminum 65MM. No one makes a 66 except in a stamped steel cup wrench. There garbage and tend to slip.
    Does both filters fall in your spec that the Honda filter will work on both cars?

  • @arthursmith643
    @arthursmith643 6 лет назад +10

    Fram filters for Honda meet Honda engineers spec there fine. Honda is not going to let engines blow up because of a oil filter. . If this guy knows more about filters than the Honda engineers he should work for Honda. Magnets HAHA. Check out Premium Guard extended life oil filters. A very good filter for the price. Use dryer sheets in your car to make it smell clean. I'm a guy so I use Sport scent. Stick under the seat or door pouch. Very economical.

    • @NEPAMotorsports
      @NEPAMotorsports  6 лет назад +3

      Yes they meet specs, but the quality has definitely changed. I don't think they blow engines but it's just a quality assurance thing.

      Arthur Smith years ago, cars were built to last. Now newer cars are junk because of inferior materials and corner cutting.
      Car manufacturers are greedy. They will make sure the car makes it past the warranty but not too much past that as they want to sell you a car every 5 years, not every 15.
      The A02 filters are junk, but if you're changing them every 3-5k miles, you'll be okay. Then you have to wonder why Honda recommends 10k oil changes and a new filter every other oil change. Corporate greed.

    A02 Is made by Honeywell not FRAM. Honeywell owns FRAM but makes the Honda spec filters. Honda wouldn't sell crap filters yea it's cardboard but. The actual Fram one is the worst. And a 30 dollar high performance filter I think is overkill. Unless you're extreme racing it's a bit much. A 10 dollar premium guard, wix, Purolator are good, 10 bucks and does the job.

Honda is known to get hundreds of thousands of miles from there engines. Best oil is clean oil. My method for over fifty years is if I can't see the oil dip stick level lines through the oil I change the oil and filter. How is increased oil pressure good for the engine? I have a 17 Civic Si would you recommend the A01 or A02 filter since my car only revs to 6500 hks would there still be a benefit from using that filter? Maybe cause the magnetic design?

    • @NEPAMotorsports
      @NEPAMotorsports  6 лет назад +1

      Hi Jared, if you don't plan on racing or revving the engine high then there is no need for the shorter filters. The A01 filter is perfect for your platform.
      The only other benefit is exactly what you mention, the magnetic inside of the filter will keep metal particles that are normal from wear in the filter and not back into the system.

    • @arthursmith643
      @arthursmith643 6 лет назад +1

      Jared Causey either filter is good. Honda cars are known to go up to 300,000 miles with no major engine problems. I doubt Honda is going to use a bogus oil filter.change the oil and filter every 5,000 miles with oil that has the API American Petroleum Institute approval and your good to go.The engine will last a very long time.

    Question: So in general, would a shorter, larger diameter oil filter have more oil pressure than a taller yet, less wide in diameter oil filter? In my opinion it should be the same, but just a curious thought. I drive a 1988 Civic LX B16A

    • @averyalexander2303
      @averyalexander2303 2 года назад +1

      The physical size of the metal can makes no difference whatsoever, the pressure drop through the filter is what could affect oil pressure. With all else being equal, a larger filter element will create less of a pressure drop than a smaller element since there's more surface area for the oil to flow through. But as you will see if you watch oil filter comparisons, the size of the can isn't necessarily indicative of the size of the filter element. Also, unless the filter is clogged, the restriction of any decent quality and and correctly sized filter will be negligible compared to the massive restriction of pumping oil through the engine itself, so oil pressure won't be affected by a meaningful amount either way.

    Your best bet is to get on a flight to Japan and go to the Honda factory the only place where you can get a genuine Honda filter. You will save money in the long run as your Honda will last 80 thousand miles instead of the standard 60 thousand miles like mine did, I just couldn't afford that flight to Japan for those genuine oil filters.

    • @frandanco6289
      @frandanco6289 2 года назад

      If you only got 80 thousand miles, you did a lot of things wrong... I just sat in a Honda that had 240,648 miles and it was still going strong... Did not burn or use or leak oil either... There is no HOnda that is standard 60 thousand miles, unless you start abusing it from day one and never change the oil...

That crap car had three defects new from the factory and the dealer 6 months to get the replacement parts = I guess YOSHI had to wait for some more scrap metal before they could make any replacement parts. Everything electrical on the car failed. So according to you it was my fault for flipping a switch !!!!! Franny another D.D.C. know it all !

    • @Darksyne
      @Darksyne 7 лет назад +1

      Their newer oil filters are overpriced junk now. They switched manufacturing from Champion labs in the U.S (same factory that makes Mobil 1 filters) to some factory in Riverside Mexico. Different design, with lower quality materials and the worst part is they're more expensive than ever so K&N isn't even passing on the savings to the consumer, they're just increasing their profit margin... If you want to use K&N just try and see if you happen to find an older one still in stock at an auto parts store that's still made in the U.S. I used a U.S made K&N oil filter in my Acura on a 10k oil change interval and it performed great according to the oil analysis.

    Pushing OEM oil filters is funny the way you do it with cussing. I've never been using the Fram orange can of death. I like Mobil or the Fram gold tough guard. I've never had a problem. I change my oil regularly. Some people never change their oil and thus need repairs. Changing oil and the filter is very important.
