- If you are looking for a classic vintage dress watch that does exactly what it’s supposed to do - there are three qualities that you have to look for :
It has to be simple, robust, and reliable.
And the IWC Caliber 89 embodies these three characteristics in perfection.
In todays video we will show you How and Why IWC introduced this legendary movement and share our feelings about the design of our model from 1948.

My grandfather, a Holocaust survivor was in a DP camp from 45-52. During those 7 years he became an underground pervayor of goods. When he finaly settled on coming to the USA he took all the money he saved, bought a C.89 and its been in the family ever since. I'm wearing it as I type this. As a small kid i remeber sneaking into my parents room and going though my dads watch drawer and just staring at the watch. Its had a huge affect on what I consider what a beautiful watch should look like as many of the watches I ended up purchasing before my father gifted it to me has similar asthetics. I love this watch, it means the world to me.
I can understand why this piece means the world for you! What a heart warming story.. thanks for sharing with us ♥️🙏
I enjoyed the family store very much.
Beautiful classic watch. Great!
Thanks Stefan !!
A stunning example!
It’s really a classy beaut!
Nice watch . Awesome video. Good guy.
Thx Kluth 😘
I have a 1956 Sharkfin in Roségold with Calibre 89 in my collection. It’s a beautiful watch and I really love it.
I absolutely love shark fin lugs♥️😊
As always nice to see something new of you guys. Good job. Short, simple but nevertheless very informative. Keep going on sharing such a great content with us!
Thanks so much buddy ☝️
Great video. Thanks for the insight to this beautiful watch
Thanks so much! The cal89 is Simplicity in perfection
Tempting! Love your videos!
Thanks 🙏
Great video! This is one of my favourite watches in my collection. I own the 18k version with shark lugs. I was extremely lucky and paid only the gold value. On top of that it was in almost untouched condition and still had the first although broken strap. New strap, serviced and it runs like a charm. A timeless classic.
I absolutely love the cal.89 with shark fin lugs! Congrats to this deal!!
Out of curiosity: what’s the gold weight/value of the IWC cal 89s? Couldn’t find any information about the weight of the gold housing.
Lessons learned!
😀☝️
Great video!

Yes.👍.
Nice watch, nice video.
Thank you!
Hi, thanks for a really nice video. Especially since cal. 89 does not seem to be a popular watch among RUclipsrs.
I've noticed that while the majority of cal. 89 dials have a 'SWISS' inscription on the dial, some of them lack this. Do you know the reason for this?
Cheers,
Hey man, thanks for your kind words! As far as I know there is no particular reason for it. However, there is to note that this could also be a sign of a redial. It's not just iwc and applies to many watches of this time period.
The old IWC are much better than the new ones. Why?
I love your videos and I love that watch! Thanks for the history lesson.
I noticed you pronounce "Schaffhausen" more like "Schaffenhausen." Is there a reason for that? I don't speak German so I have no idea.
Hey there, thanks for your kind feedback! There is no reason or special German pronouncing for schaffenhausen
I 👍 watches with military origins. They are very strong.
Simplicity is always the way to me.
I don't need moon phases. I hate watches with moon phases. I live in the moon and I know it very well.
I love the tri compax ♥️🫶
@@GoldammerVintageWatches You 👍 the tri compax.
Hello Marcus, on your internet page you have a great article about this piece "Pivotal Dress Watches -IWC Cal. 89". My question is where did you get those 3 beautiful straps from which are in that main picture? I've been trying to find these for my IWC Cal. 89 forever and I can't seem to find them. Or maybe you sell them?
Kind regards!
Hey, Felix here. We get our straps from a German wholesaler called Herzog. Unfortunately he only sells in big numbers. But we planning to sell straps in future. Kind regards :-)
@@GoldammerVintageWatches hello Felix, thanks for the quick reply! That would be great, would love to buy some:-)
Take care
You too 😊🙌
Very informative video.
We 👍.
Thanks buddy
@@GoldammerVintageWatches I am a wise buddy. Budweiser beer.
I have the one with numeral markers 3, 6, 9, 12. In 18k, I bought it from someone in Canada for 1000.00 USD
Sounds like a good deal!
I want one. How much should I aim to spend?
