steve acted this scene out very good. it was really real, he actually noticed that the two of them were making fun of him but he just ignored it and gave a little look.
After having seen this movie over ten times, I just now realized the intentional comic irony of the name "Seymour" being mocked by someone with a name as strange as "Enid."
I know a guy who’s a real life Seymour and he’s kind of awesome. The resemblance is uncanny. He’s also a record collector. Lives in Sydney, Australia. He’s a cool friend.
Aye. I agree. I heard the director Terry Zwigoff held out for years until Buscemi was able to do it. Zwigoff knew that absolutely no one else would fit the bill.
Haha. It's really weird how people think he looks good..or some people I mean. I used to see something in him and I thought I was the only one in the world. I'd like someone explain what it is that SOME women like about him.
My God yes! I saw this movie back when it was on the cinemas and I was 20 and I remember thinking that his character was a middle aged ugly guy… and now Im 40 and I saw this clip and thought “wow he looks sooooo young” 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@paulohernanndizz3506 She basically had no identity, she latched onto every new fad or edgy interest she had. She was neglected by her well meaning father.
Sincerity and meekness was a new concept to her. She could have grown as a person if she took better care of her friendships (and herself for that matter)
No 'lol' about it. You just read my heart and my life with your comment. I was just thinking the exact same thing and then when I saw your comment I tragically exhaled, "OHHH!"
Is he? I seriously don't know. I always thought he was the go-to casting for someone goofy looking. Is it just the character he played that makes him seem attractive, or is he genuinely good looking?
@@royrowland5763 I find him attractive in so many of his roles. This one, Reservoir Dogs, Fargo, etc. So I don't think it's that. He definitely looks unconventional, but there's something I've always found really attractive about that. It's probably just a personal opinion
Seymour reminds me a lot of Andy in “The 40 year old virgin.” Both men are lonely, have few friends and don’t have luck with dating. Despite this, they make the most with what they have, they have good jobs, they seem like decent people and are able to afford their hobbies in a healthy non possessive way.
That's the weird thing for me. At the end, Seymour's moved back in with his mom, despite having had a corporate officer job for years. I couldn't figure out why he was so hard up for money when he had a long-term job of quality pay.

I rewatched this last night, the first time since it's VHS release. I really underappreciated this as a high schooler. I could have sworn this movie mentioned Ren and Stimpy, but it didn't and now I'm wondering what movie that was. Steve Buscemi was great in this movie.
I just wasted two hours of my life and its two hours I could have been doing something useful or fun. This movie may be something good to others but I personally rate this next to a movie where you just watch someone stare at you (not a real movie, just an example of its terrible plot lines and story.) note: I hope everyone is being sarcastic when they say they loved it.
I love this movie but it is for sure a film that is not for everyone. I have never read the comics, but I was not much older than Enid and Rebecca when this movie came out so I think I could identify with some of their feelings at that time. If I were to just watch this for the first time right now, I don’t know for sure what I would think but I am pretty sure I would still like it.

Seymour is basically comfortable in his own skin, which is why he can brush off mockery. This is why Enid says later that he's actually kind of cool.

One of the characters in Sweet Valley Twins was named Enid (can't believe I know that, but my sister had tons of those books in the 80s).
You know, as a 78 collector I'm perfectly content with Steve Buscemi being the pop culture representation of us.
As an LP collector, I am hopeful that one day our pop culture representation will be as honorable as Seymour.

What's the 78 situation in Australia these days? Are they big on Blues or Country or something else?

Enid at first cringes at Seymour, but she's later impressed by his politeness and serious demeanor.
Seymour wasnt even in the original story. He was a fat guy with a beard that they only saw once at the diner

Terry Zwigoff taking a little shot at Crumb here. "That one's not so great", lol.
