Grading A County Road

  • Today I fixed up a county road that had a few potholes and needed some rock. I did this 4 years ago and the road was in worse shape. It's not built to county specs so the homeowners on this road that have to pay to maintain it. I also touched up two driveways towards the end of the road, I used 3 loads of rock about 48 tons and took about 4 hours to complete. Thanks for watching!

Looks good! Driveway and stone jobs are all the rage this time of year as they are every year it would seem. I like to see that you rip the potholes up and rework them before adding new stone. Seems like lots of guys just add stone across the top of those holes and it just won't last. I just finished up a driveway rejuvenation job last weekend and was working to get the video edited so I could post this week and saw your notification of this job and thought "how fitting". See ya on the next one...

What a difference ! Looks great ! Whole lotta variables in that tailgating. Speed dump rate and gate gap. Thinking maybe a little tighter gate gap w the chains might b a good place to start. Just a suggestion. I've only ever done that w a dump trailer which presents it's own set of issues. A driver. Me sitting on battery box of trailer running the controller for dump. Tighter gate gap helped me. But you'll get it ! Thanks for the video

Nice work on the road!!! Shopping for opinions and or suggestions on what aggregate(s) I should use on the side of the garage where I will park an equipment trailer? It is on a slight slope so I don’t want it to wash out when we have our heavy Texas rains. I was thinking 3-4 inches of crushed concrete to build a base. Then topping it with decomposed granite. I want it to look nice yet still not wash out over time. Thoughts?

We have a couple "County" roads like that down where I'm at. The county never wanted to either fix it themselves or pay a contractor to do it and the residents would only halfass fix 'em. Got so bad that EMS and the local Fire Department said that they wouldn't respond to calls down those roads due to the risk of damaging their equipment. Even that didn't get the county into gear. Took the residents gathering up to sue the county for 'em to do something about it. Fortunately for them when the county sets their mind to spending money and doing a job right it gets done right, but convincing them to spend any money is like trying to get a candy away from a child.
