I love seeing that great players, like Marc, also remember that the main reason we play backgammon is to have fun! In chouettes and casual play, I make many of these moves (and more) and it is fun. Keep in mind that in a serious tournaments, ALL of these fun moves are illegal. It is illegal to move the checkers in any way that is ambiguous or misleading or confusing....so while I loved this video, it does need to come with a warning about serious tournament (or big money) play.
Loved it... especially the doubling move. Here's one of my little favorite common ones... when doubling, put the cube down on your side, and flick it over with your finger so it slides over to them. With a little practice you can get it just right so it slides across and gently "clacks" the wood on their side.
most seasoned players do this routinely, but if playing against a relatively inexperienced player, its good manners to make the move in four 5-point skips.
This is the funniest thing I’ve seen in a long time. I feel like the only one I can possibly disagree with is the “lazy cube”. It feels lazy without being cool.
There is another cool move. If you on the bar and go down with 5 5. You don’t count all the moves, if the way is clear you just put it on 5 pip in your home.
With this technique, you are more % likely to miss any joker hits of his blots you may have been fortunate enough to get along the way. Most of the time you will be ok, but will feel like a doofus after if you missed any hits. I always skip.
A move that TOTALLY confused me, after my first move my opponent rolled 66 and moved: - 24/7 x2 - 13/18 x2 BTW it was just a FUN game - and boy did he laugh!!!
I remember when I was a rookie and my opponent did the "slide" with a 6-4 to make the deuce after having made his three point the move prior... It totally confused me 🤓
I cannot wait to roll 6|1 OTB to play that epic slide down, push and slide checker back move - truly epic Great video - Keep it up and I think we will see you in the next Bond movie as the BG Villian - might have to fight VA for the same role though
Certainly amusing, and while these may be "cool" moves, I'd hope my opponent would rather beat me by playing better than by "catching me off guard" or "making me do the work". I'd even say that most of these tricks should be discouraged in all contexts other than casual play.
...unless you have a cheap'o 2.75$ board from goodwill like i do, where chips stick to the felt and the surface is as smooth as the grand canyon... yeah, i use hazmat gloves like a boss!
Yeah mon. Just like the quick handed Russian who won (supposedly) the world championship last year in Monte Carlo, then disqualified after they caught it! LOL
Regardless of the end result Marc, those are actually illegal moves. Regarding the 6-1 play, if you made that 2 down and one back move against me I would call for the tournament director. to have you admonished. Ditto with the 3-3 point shift, a totally illegal way to play the roll. total BS and not true backgammon. This shit should not be encouraged. Gaby Horrowitz, if that cheat was still alive, would have loved this shit. Why should an honest and conventional player have to waste his time bank to check if your bullshit chicanery was actually legal? "Catch them off guard" says it all.
I don’t know the TECHNICAL answer. There are plenty of strong players and TDs that follow Marc that will know definitively. For ME, as long as the checkers end up where they belong it should be deemed legal. It’s just a fun thing. I will say, however, that if that style truly annoys the opponent, he should just talk to the player. And a polite and gracious player wouldn’t do it anymore. To me, that’s the way it should be handled and not elevate it into a big deal.
@@p0ssesst ...NO, not a joke at all, this kind of play is on the increase and he admits, in the titles blurb, that it can fool people, it's a cheat's charter. As I said, why should a person who plays conventionally, have to waste his time bank checking to see if an opponent moved legally. BTW (although it's none of your business), I am fun at parties. Backgammon however is deadly serious, as in; it's important; as in winning matters, as in not wasting your time bank confirming your opponents moves.
@@craigguthrie3400 Craig, i think that when one of the best players in the world is advocating these "antics" with the openly expressed aim of fooling your opponent, it is de-facto a big deal.
I just beat another higher ranked player in a BGalaxy match and my rating did not change. WTF? The first match today where my rating went unchanged was against a Grand Master rated player (2100+) in a 7 point match.
To impress you opponent??? This sucks! Some of these moves are really rude, haughty, dismissive and disrespectful. I will not be impressed by an opponent playing in this manner.
Content like this is what will bring about a real backgammon renaissance. Incredibly amusing.
Thank you very much, because of you now i play 14 vs 15 checkers because when i threw one from the bar i broke it.

That was so funny, thanks Mark for having the idea to make this well-overdue video.
This video was actually way more funny than I thought it would be. :D

We need a second video with the best moves from the comments section 😅

That is a good one Josh!
Funniest bg video of the decade, the shades and the stare after every trick really tie it together
Nice the shades 😎 really sells it. 😆
Standard look for Marc hustling backgammon.
funny as hell. I laughed out loud.
😄😄😄
Marc give us a link for thag board . It s so cool !

Fun and fabulous!
Nice to see some coolness and humour back in backgammon. Too many rule freak nerds around these days!
😎
Very impressive! I'm very impressed.
How about the double fives with a checker on the bar. If the 20 is open simply take the checker off the bar and place it on your five point.

None of those moves are as cool as those shades!
:-D
In the "Backgammon Basics" playlist the video after this one #18 is a private video. I can not see it.
That was mad funny, One Love, Jamaica
Thanks Kenroy! 😄
Funny as brother...I'm still working on introducing my friends to embrace the double.
02:57 his students are practicing to perform boss-like moves with metal checkers somewhere behind the scenes :p eventually they will master it

QUESTION: why does my BGalaxy rating either go down or remain the same when I win a match against a much higher rated player?
In order to win Galaxy Rating, you have to win both the match AND also play better than your opponent (have the lowest PR/Error Rate).
very cool

I think the "tossing the cube out onto a random number" is the only one that would be a problem in serious play.
I'm very upset that you posted all of my "boss' moves for everyone to learn.
