  • This video teaches drivers how to parallel park using Archer's method, which relies on using the right side mirror. By using this method the driver is less dependent on using the vehicle they are parking behind of as vehicles vary in sizes and distances from the curb. Archer's is a family owned driving school in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

    This is such a helpful video. I could never tell if i had reached a 45 degrees angle., but you have explained how to check this now by looking for an equilateral triangle in the side mirror. This moneuver is making more and more sense to me niw
    Thank you so much for explaining this.😁💗 it is becoming crystal ckear.

    Hey, I haven't seen the trick about turning the wheel once the triangle disseapears elsewhere and it usually works. The other tricks I see usually leave me too far from the curb but that's probably because I'm driving a smaller car.
    Do you have a trick by any chance for parking on the left side to be directly next to the curb? Thanks.

    Recommended distance from car in front?

    • @edmontondrivingschool
      @edmontondrivingschool  4 года назад +2

      Hi Wudgee. The recommended distance can vary depending on the vehicle you're driving. You want to be able to leave the parking spot preferably without having to back up. For a regular size car I like to be about 1.5m (4-5') away. This way if someone is parked really close to me I will not be boxed in.

    Its very good, but the problem is when im on the test i have to lover my right mirror as low as possible in order to see where the curb is so i dont really see the triangle. Is there an alternative? I know its dumb but if i dont do that i fail my test

    Hi,
    Should I keep clutch pressed while reversing downhill from parking?

    • @edmontondrivingschool
      @edmontondrivingschool  3 года назад

      Well it depends on your car and how steep the hill is. For my manual transmission one, I use the clutch and accelerator to back up off downhill park on a steep hill.

    • @prakashchander9263
      @prakashchander9263 3 года назад

      @@edmontondrivingschool why would you use acceleration when car itself rolling downward?

    • @edmontondrivingschool
      @edmontondrivingschool  3 года назад

      @@prakashchander9263 Sorry, I must've misunderstood your question. I thought you meant getting off the curb on a downhill park where you have to back off the curb. Are you attempting a parallel park on a hill and is the nose of the car facing up or downwards? In a manual transmission if on a hill , I usually put in neutral, let gravity do the work and ride the brake vs the clutch.

    How do I know if i go at 35 45 50 or 1.5º?

    • @edmontondrivingschool
      @edmontondrivingschool  4 года назад +5

      Hi Daro. It depends on the shape of the triangle. If it looks like a pizza slice, then your'e in the 30 degrees ballpark and require to go a little more before straighten out the wheels. The big take-away is to try to always have a similar triangle as it will affect how far you have to back up straight. Once you have a consistent angle, keep it! If you are too far away from the curb when parking try and go a little further back on your next attempt. If you consistently hit the curb, then don't go as far back. Hope this helps! Dom

      Hi MM and thanks for your comment. In this jurisdiction ( Alberta, Canada) vehicles must be parked within 50 cm (0-50) from the curb. If you're not sure of what distances are required where you live, please check with your government's transportation branch.
