Imagine this: you walk into GameStop and ask the guy, "Yeah I would like to have a used New 3DS." 'Well which one? A used 3DS, a new 3DS, a new New 3DS, or a used New 3DS?" "Forget it. Just give me Zelda." "Well, which one? Zelda NES, Zelda II, A Link to the Past, Link's Awakening, Ocarina of Time, Link's Awakening DX..." "NEVER MIND! I'm out of here!"
It's complete nonsense that the colored Japanese SNES buttons and the cover plates are only for the regular sized New Nintendo 3DS and the not the XL one.
I think the cover plates exclusive to the regular sized one is to have an incentive for the people to buy it instead of the XL. Because right now the regular 3DS is pretty much useless, the XL is a much better deal.
Why? Even though the XL version is most of the time more popular, there's still a lot of people that prefers the smaller version. Sure it sucks that you can't change faceplate for the XL, but you can live without it.
***** oh yeah, that's called a butt fucking xD and then they'll put it back up for like 70 bucks because that's how much it'll be worth by the time the New 3DS. I don't do trade ins with Gamestop. I'll buy their games, and that'll be it. The end lol
The face plates are kind of neat... but the name is horrible. New 3DS? Can you imagine the confusion people are going to be in when someone that does not play games buy the New 3DS for their kid? Kid's mom: I would like the 3DS Store employee: The 3DS or the New 3DS? Kid's mom: Yes, I want a new 3DS. They could have called it 3DS 2 or 3DS Plus or something.
Marc Esquivel lol that is one way to look at it but the mom might be like I thought it was $150! Why it is so much more expensive!? Confusion, confusion everywhere.
Baconpancakes Imagine the whole used market confusion!!!, Would you like a regular used 3ds or a Used "new" 3ds or a new "new" 3ds or a regular new 3ds, brand confusion, store confusion all around just fail!!!
Actually it does look quite neat, a much bigger improvement both in design and features (as well as power) over the previous version than the 3DS XL was.
They made that pointless mistake on the original 3DS by putting it on the back like the original DS. What the hell were they trying to achieve? If it ain't broke don't fix it and don't try to make the stylus harder to get to just for the sake of a pointless "luxury" look. They learnt their mistake with the 3DS XL and now they've gone back! And you wonder why, Nintendo!
I think that nintendo has done a very good job on the design of this console, kudos for that. The only thing I didn't like was the power button on the button. I have the feeling that people that play will accidentally turn of the console while playing. It should've been done like on the normal 3DS and 3DS XL, or it should've been a slide to start like on DS lite. Also, isn't it possible to mix buttons? For example, to start the console you have to hold down the home button for 5 seconds, and then an "are you sure you want to exit" pop-up should appear.
To the people bitching about why they didn't sell these to the US/ UK, You obviously don't know marketing strategies. Nintendo is pitching these new systems to Japan an AS markets to get there input, find bug, fix issues, find out what they like an what they don't like, strategize for future updates or patches. That way, when they do decide to send these systems to the US/UK Markets, we aren't stuck with something possibly broken an bland..
Out of all that, you could only pick out a miss spelled word, I won't lie, I get my there an Their mixed up. Yet next time, if you're going to take the time to read it, an correct my spelling, the least you could do is actually contribute to the conversation at hand.
:( + :) first time I corrected someone on RUclips cuz felt like it :) "not really a big deal if the new 3ds comes out comes out later/early 2015 planning on using tax return money to get it probably get it like feb-March hopefully anyway so doesn't really matter that much :) "and hopefully new iPod touch comes out by then too"" ^~^
I have the 3DS XL and I'm gettting the regular sized New 3DS, hopefully the decrease in size doesn't bother me much because it looks amazing and it's more portable which I appreciate some the XL barely fits in my pocket.
I'm doing the exact same thing and I have the exact same worry haha the quality of the screen won't be as stretched so that'll be nice! And the faceplates. If anything we can just use our game cartridges on our old 3ds xl
I was really upset about the differences between the New 3DS and 3DS, but the minute I heard Xenoblade Chronicles my ears lit up. I already have it for the Wii but it must be pretty neat seeing it all put into one handheld game.
Placing the headphone jack in the bottom middle is a stupid idea as a lot of headphones have inputs that would run horizontal to the device, meaning either the stylus or cartridge slot would be blocked off. Yes you can pivot it out of the way if wanting to use either, but placing the cartridge slot in the middle and have the jack on the left hand side, with the stylus in its original setting would've created a more aesthetic and less crowded look. Honestly I'm going to hang onto my 3DS XL because this upgrade isn't significant enough to cough out $250- unless they release a Zelda Limited Edition which would be pretty tempting haha
yes, this is my only pet peeve with the new system, and the extra shoulder buttons arent really needed. theres no point games work pretty well without them, FPS arent realy that enjoyable on portables anyways. however imo the proccesor improvement and defintely the 3d improvement makes me think about maybe getting one.
As a 3DS owner since launch day, I feel that an update to the current normal size 3DS has come at a time that it is desperately needed. Lately, I have noticed major lag between navigating to the HOME menu while playing Super Smash Bros. Also, I was alarmed to see that the Internet browser cannot be opened while a game designed for the standard 3DS is open. Clearly, the current specs cannot keep up with this title. The new 3DS's CPU would prevent such lag and limitations, and allow for more graphically detailed titles. A larger screen with the same form factor is also an excellent idea, as the screen on the original 3DS is too cramped and the screens on the 3DS XL make images too blurry with a top screen resolution of only 840x480. If the screen is not increased too much, video output should stay crisp enough. Eye tracking solves the 3D viewing problems many players have had. One of the biggest problems that the original 3DS had was very poor battery life. Unfortunately, it can be concluded that the IR sensors, new CPU, and larger screens will consume more power. Hopefully, the battery pack size will be increased to boost battery life.
I just love the fact that among those new features the one that matters the most to me are those abxy buttons colored in famicom-style. Oh and thanks Australia! I preordered a new 3ds from way over there just so I can play in germany and not have to wait until they eventually release it next year.
i think because I personally have such small hands and the 3ds's size looks more appealing to me, it has practically the same specs and features as the LL (besides the large screans) that i would go for the 3ds. It also has the customization options which is a huge plus!
I don't know why but i think that those ABXY buttons look awesome with the colors that they added. i have know clue why but i think thats the coolest thing they added right beside the 3D fix.
Damn! Why don't they make an XL in white? I'd like the bigger screens but I think I'll go with the standard because of the nicer buttons and overall look :)
Can't wait for the smaller New 3DS to be released in the US. I really just want a smaller handheld that is also comfortable. And now it also has super pretty buttons and faceplates!
I really like the white one with colored buttons, but I have already been spoiled by the bigger screen on the XL so it might be hard to switch over to a smaller one. Anyone know what that huge empty slot at the bottom left is? I hope there's a cover for it because dust might collect in there.
Just got mine. The micro SD is tough to get at. I don't like taking a screwdriver anywhere near my new console I just bought. Seems stupid to hide the micro SD behind a couple screws
Why the hell did they put the C-stick ABOVE the Y button instead of BELOW it like they had it on the Gamecube controller?? That looks so awkward to use... =/
When is the U.S. release date? Second the new xl should have the plates too! And the new xl should to have the buttons like the little one and come in white also.
Is amiibo support only available for new 3ds xl? Or does the normal new 3ds support it too? Not a big selling point for me as I'm getting the normal new 3ds either way. Just curious :p
can the charger from my 3DS now be used with the new nintendo 3DS? Or would I have to buy a new charger - I know the new nintendo 3DS doesn't come with a charger or ac adapter but is the charging slot the same as the old nintendo 3DS? thanks!
I really hope Nintendo releases some new "Circle Pad Pro" with the extra buttons so normal 3DS users don't have to buy another console. Otherwise this is just a slap in the face for people who have just bought a 3DS.
I'm glad they moved the game slot to the bottom. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who has done this, but there has been several times when I reached back to get my stylus & I would accidentally eject the game, losing all of my progress & shit. That pissed me off SO bad v.v
one thing that im reallyyy concerned with is the PPI (pixels per inch) im hoping they increased it because that would go so far in terms of making their games look better on top of the changes under the hood it would really make their games just look amazing. im still going to buy one regardless if they increased the ppi or not but yeah thats my main concern.
I have the New 3ds XL import from AU, and the MicroSD card is built in where the battery is, and you need to unscrew 2 screws to get the plate off. I have a 32 GB card so i can store lots of photos, but taking the SD card out is not very practical. I hope they sort some easier method to transfer photos. At the moment the only way to transfer is to ImageShare but you can only do one photo at once, and its very time consuming if you have lots of photos or screenshots
Imagine this: you walk into GameStop and ask the guy, "Yeah I would like to have a used New 3DS."
'Well which one? A used 3DS, a new 3DS, a new New 3DS, or a used New 3DS?"

"NEVER MIND! I'm out of here!"
***** Yeah, but thats the abbrieviation (pretty sure I spelled that wrong) for Nintendo 3DS. It would have to be NN3DS
***** Yeah but he the worker won't know if you want the new 3ds or a "new" version 3ds.
***** yeah but if you say new 3ds then he may think a real new "3ds" not the new verison of the 3ds just a new in the box one of a old one
***** Then he will ask me if I want a new 3DS, a new New 3DS, a used New 3DS...
***** That could work, I guess.
It's complete nonsense that the colored Japanese SNES buttons and the cover plates are only for the regular sized New Nintendo 3DS and the not the XL one.
***** But they aren't nearly as cute and adorable as the Japanese SNES ones are.
I think the cover plates exclusive to the regular sized one is to have an incentive for the people to buy it instead of the XL. Because right now the regular 3DS is pretty much useless, the XL is a much better deal.
irikan280 That's a stupid reason. I that's the case they should just make the XL version and forget a regular sized version.
Why? Even though the XL version is most of the time more popular, there's still a lot of people that prefers the smaller version. Sure it sucks that you can't change faceplate for the XL, but you can live without it.
irikan280
Because that makes there not be a definitive version.
Cover plates ...That's fucking brilliant.
If only I didn't have an older 3DS .. -___-
I'm sure some local game store will have some trade in offer!
***** and a subscription to some bs you dont want.
There's always the option to trade in your older 3DS for the new one.
Kid's mom: I would like the 3DS
Store employee: The 3DS or the New 3DS?
Kid's mom: Yes, I want a new 3DS.
They could have called it 3DS 2 or 3DS Plus or something.
Either way that's a score for the kid he was expecting a old 3ds but got the newer model sweet!
Marc Esquivel lol that is one way to look at it but the mom might be like I thought it was $150! Why it is so much more expensive!?
Confusion, confusion everywhere.
To be fair with 4 3ds' on the market it will always be confusing.
given the colour of the buttons, they should've called it the super 3ds
Baconpancakes
Imagine the whole used market confusion!!!, Would you like a regular used 3ds or a Used "new" 3ds or a new "new" 3ds or a regular new 3ds, brand confusion, store confusion all around just fail!!!
It still should have been called Super 3DS
Very true
then 3DS 64..
Ram Mangente 3DSCube
3DSWii
3DS U
Actually it does look quite neat, a much bigger improvement both in design and features (as well as power) over the previous version than the 3DS XL was.
***** That in Australia money not American money they are both called dollars
Smiley Eric the transfer rate is basically 1:1 though
I just want the colored buttons tbh
Really? The faster processor interests me and the fact that some new games will he an exclusive to the new 3ds
ya coloured buttons and the smaller screen size is the deal breaker for me i dont like jaggies
i already have two old 3ds xls and one original 3ds
+Eddie Tupy the smaller screen has a shaper picture
not myname i meant dealbreaker as in i want to get the smaller one
*****
lmaaoooooooooooo alright
Why didn't they just call it Super 3DS
because they've been using "the new" for the past decade. Revamping retro naming styles would be great with the revamped buttons though :D
***** no one
they try to make the names as bad as possible if it was not a bad name they threw it out
justin rivera lol
ConnorBP but it won't be new for that long
Why cant they just keep the fucking stylus on the side of the console?!?
They moved it to the bottom so it's more neutral to left-handed and right-handed users.
Kevin Edwards At least someone knows lefties exist!
so they can release an improved model later on of course
They made that pointless mistake on the original 3DS by putting it on the back like the original DS. What the hell were they trying to achieve? If it ain't broke don't fix it and don't try to make the stylus harder to get to just for the sake of a pointless "luxury" look. They learnt their mistake with the 3DS XL and now they've gone back! And you wonder why, Nintendo!
Clara Pagett Then it would be pointless.
If they make a Mario game for the New 3DS, I wonder if it'll be called New Super Mario Bros New.
just New Super Mario Bros... But you knew that already, didn't ya?
I think that nintendo has done a very good job on the design of this console, kudos for that. The only thing I didn't like was the power button on the button. I have the New 3DS XL and I'm pretty contented with it. only downside I see from it it's that it has a glossy finish and I have sweaty palms
I face the same problem and I'm planning to buy the XL. Does it pick up fingerprints as easily as I've heard?
Karan Sharma
it does, but a quick wipe does the trick
Oh Cap'n My Cap'n knees weak
Arms are heavy
Moms spaghetti

I despise Apple Products. I'll eventually buy the NEW 3ds system, when they have better color options besides that ugly whitish color..
People in the UK can just import a New 3DS from Australia anyway. Because of shared PAL region codes, UK games will work on them.
I'm getting the New Nintendo 3DS 'cause of the cover plates. Also, I still don't like the name. I'm gonna call it the 3DSi for on
3DSi Lite XL
SUPER 3DS. If they are going to go with a super Famicom theme, they might as well run with it.
Genko Forrest beat me to it!
Genko Forrest that is true
in my opinion the new 3DS looks less premium...i think the old 3DS feels great and high quality.
the new 3ds just looks like rounded out plastic.
Techno sailor Completely agree. The new power button position looks like it might easily get switched off accidentally, too.
yea, but the removable plates are cool :3 If USA has to pay 15$-20$ for the plates though i dont think the plates will sell that well. idk
the regular n3ds maybe but xl looks better
Said the regular 3DS owner.
I'm getting the small one in black with blue faceplates, can wait. It looks so much better.
I was really upset about the differences between the New 3DS and 3DS, but the minute I heard Xenoblade Chronicles my ears lit up. I already have it for the Wii but it must be pretty neat seeing it all put into one handheld game.
Better names than New 3DS:
Super 3DS
3DS U
3DSi
3DS 2
etc... etc...

Well, no current games really need the extra shoulder buttons, but they're there so future releases might use them.
kurisu7885 i think the touch screen offers enough extra options, but hey, i guess hacing extra buttons never hurts
Why no face plate for the new 3ds xl Nintendo why?
Agreed
Man, I love the size of the XL, but the everything else of the normal version!
As a 3DS owner since launch day, I feel that an update to the current normal size 3DS has come at a time that it is desperately needed. if i had a dollar for every time the7y said "nintendo" pfhh i would have ALOT of money
*they
Which one should I get?
What do the ZL and ZR buttons do?
It's weird that this is a Gamespot Australia video uploading at 11pm Sydney time.
I only have one complaint, the faceplates are not available for the XL.
what would be the problem if the C stick was bigger?
When is this coming out in America?
I would definitely buy the New 3DS XL if it were in white. I really think the white model looks great and thats why i'm getting the regular one.
And how is the sound of the new pair compared with the old pair? Does it sound louder?
I'm waiting for the New Wii U now 😄
i think because I personally have such small hands and the 3ds's size looks more appealing to me, it has practically the same specs and features as the LL (besides the large screans) that i would go for the 3ds. It also has the customization options which is a huge plus!
I'm surprised they didn't increase the screen resolutions. I think I'll be sticking with my current 3DS XL since I'm more than happy with it!
7:39
Admittedly, that's pretty much my main reason too between the standard and XL sizes.
I think those screens should be updated, or I must be just use to retina displays on phones
Where is the volume button?
What about the speakers? Are they the same as the one in the 3ds/2ds? How is the sound quality compared to the 3ds/2ds?
Man i'm so keen. Ive already pre-ordered and paid mine off :)
I still have a question tho… does the old 3ds game cards still fit the new 3ds or do I have to re- buy the games?
Why isn't there plates on the new 3ds xl?
Can I use the new games coming out in the future on my 3ds xl or do I need to get another 3ds?
Can't wait for this to come out in the UK, so hyped.
i heard that australian 3ds is compatible with europe software. is this true, can i still register it to the uk site? please tell me
Would be interesting to know if we get a camera upgrade.
awesome! thanks 4 the review, im gonna get 1 soon
Does the New 3DS XL still suffer stretched pixel quality or is it finally good looking?
I don't know why but i think that those ABXY buttons look awesome with the colors that they added. i have know clue why but i think thats the coolest thing they added right beside the 3D fix.
Ahhhh! I can't decide! Removable face plate and Famicom buttons or XL Screen size?
Damn! Why don't they make an XL in white? I'd like the bigger screens but I think I'll go with the standard because of the nicer buttons and overall look :)
what is the size of the old 3ds compared to the new one is it a big change or is it slightly changed?
Is the screen of the new 3ds big enough or do i have to buy the new 3dsxl also black or white?
so you can change the new 3ds shell not the not the new 3ds xl
Inside the face plates should be a compartment to hold a 3ds game or two
this guy needs to speak up. I cannot understand a word of what he is saying.
Quick question: will the New 3DS/XL use the regular 3DS/XL/DSi charger, or will it have its own charger?
But will it have wireless support for networks with a WPA 2 Enterprise encryption?
So the new 3ds xl cant change like the covers
Haha, good on you Dan. I bought one yesterday purely based on the SNES buttons too.
Can't wait for the smaller New 3DS to be released in the US. I really just want a smaller handheld that is also comfortable. And now it also has super pretty buttons and faceplates!
Welp, my dreams have been shattered....
i have a question: are the coverplates only for the regular 3ds or for both systems?
There seems to be some improvement in some areas (and a few meh changes), but how the hell did that location of the power button get approved?
I really like the white one with colored buttons, but I have already been spoiled by the bigger screen on the XL so it might be hard to switch over to a smaller one. Anyone know what that huge empty slot at the bottom left is? I hope there's a cover for it because dust might collect in there.
Just got mine. The micro SD is tough to get at. I don't like taking a screwdriver anywhere near my new console I just bought. Seems stupid to hide the micro SD behind a couple screws
They Should've put the c stick under the buttons seems kinda awkward to have it above
Should I get the xl or the small one?
Why the hell did they put the C-stick ABOVE the Y button instead of BELOW it like they had it on the Gamecube controller?? That looks so awkward to use... =/
Whats a zedal and zedar button?
...
ZL and ZR *facepalm*
i got an ambassador edition through club nintendo europe, got an unboxing video coming in a few days
Great vid lads
I must know, how did you end up with an English new 3ds?
Where can I get the New Nintendo 3DS in North America??
So is this a whole new console or is it just a different variation?
Can you change the face plates on the new 3DS XL/LL or only on the small one?
When is the U.S. release date? Second the new xl should have the plates too! And the new xl should to have the buttons like the little one and come in white also.
I'm with you at least on the plates, though I can live without it.
I have a question, when Amiibo comes out for the 3ds, will it work on 3DS and 3DS XL? Also bit silly but it will also work on NEW 3DS as well right?
Wait, new 3ds games are NOT going to be playable on de 'old' 3ds or do i get that wrong?
They look nice. I'm right handed and prefer the DS Lite and 3DS XL stylus placement, though.
Is amiibo support only available for new 3ds xl? Or does the normal new 3ds support it too? Not a big selling point for me as I'm getting the normal new 3ds either way. Just curious :p
Will the new 3ds support ds games and dsi games like Super mario 64?
can the charger from my 3DS now be used with the new nintendo 3DS? Or would I have to buy a new charger - I know the new nintendo 3DS doesn't come with a charger or ac adapter but is the charging slot the same as the old nintendo 3DS?
thanks!
Getting it this November! Can't wait! :D
Does it use the same power adaptor as the old one? (Sorry If I overlooked them mentioning it)
The naming convention used is not a new concept. They went from the Nintendo Entertainment System to the Super Nintendo Entertainment System.
I'm waiting for when the first website pops up allowing me to make custom face plates.
What's that Mario theme plate
When does it release in America ??
Does the screen have better colors on new 3ds?
RELEASE DATE????
So no one knows the release date for for anyone buy aussie and new zealand?
I really hope Nintendo releases some new "Circle Pad Pro" with the extra buttons so normal 3DS users don't have to buy another console. Otherwise this is just a slap in the face for people who have just bought a 3DS.
When will their be a capture card version come out in America
is it true that the new C stick will work with kid icarus uprising?
Where I can buy this online?
When will discover the new nintendo 3ds in italy and in europe
I'm glad they moved the game slot to the bottom. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who has done this, but there has been several times when I reached back to get my stylus & I would accidentally eject the game, losing all of my progress & shit. That pissed me off SO bad v.v
one thing that im reallyyy concerned with is the PPI (pixels per inch) im hoping they increased it because that would go so far in terms of making their games look better on top of the changes under the hood it would really make their games just look amazing. im still going to buy one regardless if they increased the ppi or not but yeah thats my main concern.
You know... maybe now with the SNES styled buttons and better processor, we could finally get SNES games as eShop titles on the 3DS!
