    Just goes to show how potent Drannith Magistrate is in cEDH since it almost single-handedly suppressed the rest of the table, and the minute it was gone Koll popped off for the win.

    • @SmoothBrainEDH
      @SmoothBrainEDH  2 месяца назад +1

      Yep! It does also speak to the general weakness of stax pieces though. The second the single stax piece leaves, the game is over. Gutty was holding removal the entire game so he just waited until other players burned interaction to go for it. Stax can help opposing players create windows to win while suppressing other players.

    Built a buddy a deck that uses thoracle to win off a primal surge. Its pretty icky how much he can interact despite being all permanent cards and how quick he can win.

    • @SmoothBrainEDH
      @SmoothBrainEDH  2 месяца назад +2

      Always cool to see decks like that. I saw something similar that could only assemble janky 2 card combos like Labman + Leveler (this is before Thoracle) but that's not too difficult to do with Defense of the Heart and Tooth & Nail

    Its easy to see as an observer...i get that but, i feel that nadu had better lines in game 2. He could have cast the metamorph on the portal and he could have done the past the turn line on the first nadu turn to get 7 more triggers with aphetto

    You can target to equip the same creature that's already equiped, a.k.a. double equip?

    • @DasdardlyGuttersnipe
      @DasdardlyGuttersnipe 2 месяца назад +3

      Yes, you can equip the same creature. It's a bit unintuitive.

    • @TSGypside

      As long as it's not equipped with Lightning Greaves (or has shroud from some other source), yes.

  • @Savage_Mr_Bean14

    Matt prob would've benefitted more from not "Chain of Vapor"ing his own Aphetto, trading the 2 extra Nadu triggers on his own turn for multiple triggers on each of his opponents' turns (2 vs 7). With any luck, in those 5 extra cards are an instant speed cantrip, tutor, or a land that can target for additional triggers.

    • @SmoothBrainEDH
      @SmoothBrainEDH  2 месяца назад

      Aphetto Alchemist was tapped to untap the Mox Diamond in order to cast Nadu (and Shuko with that colorless from Ancient Tomb), so it couldn't be tapped again that turn cycle. Gutty tutoring for Memnite was a clear sign that he had Skullclamp in hand and was ready to combo. Removing the equip cost reducer was necessary to avoid immediately losing plus it gave Matt an additional 2 draws to try to find protection for his next turn.

  • @chris-m1g5r

    I feel like Magda could run another utility artifact or 4 instead of some of those lands. With just a Maskwood Nexus in his deck he could have easily won that turn through the spellskite (but not the opposition agent).

      @SmoothBrainEDH  Месяц назад +2

      It feels very manageable to me when played at cEDH level. I'm not a fan of Nadu at lower power though where table fun is a concern. Nadu just occupies too much of the clock while being harder to interact with at lower power tables where stax and counterspells are less common.

      @@SmoothBrainEDH yeah I understand, but it still seems like it doesn't have the same affect it had like in modern where you have 4 and access to other colors.
      It seems to me the deck is a 2/3 piece combo deck that lets you draw and ramp.

      Spellskite shuts down Clock combo. Also Jason had both Opposition Agent and Orcish Bowmasters to stop Magda. Didn't have anything that meaningfully stopped Nadu though

  • @diegorezi5760

    Match 2 Magda could win if there isnt Gaea craddle as he could winter orb all players. Also, spellkite is a problem with the clock xombo so, lets say he had bad lucky in this match

    • @SmoothBrainEDH
      @SmoothBrainEDH  2 месяца назад +1

      Worth noting no Winter Orb in the list. The Spellskite was stopping Clock combo but also Jason had both Opposition Agent and Orcish Bowmasters. He couldn't deploy anything when he wanted to due to everyone threatening wins.

      Looks like spellkite locks the clock combo as long the pilot has life to pay...althouth he had the opoortunity to make a copy of the phorexian for more 3 sac crratures trigger....

    • @SmoothBrainEDH
      @SmoothBrainEDH  2 месяца назад +7

      Spellskite was stopping Clock combo. There's no Sculpting Steel in this list to copy Portal. Not that second portal would've stopped things given that Jason was holding up interaction. You all didn't see his hand but it included Orcish Bowmasters in addition to the Oppo Agent you did see.

      cEDH is fun in its own way. No limits, do as much as you can to win, no hard feelings for what cards you play. We've had a lot of fast combo and midrange cEDH on the channel, so you haven't seen much of the fair stax and control decks. I'll be sure to bring Ellivere to a game.
      It's not for everyone but that's fine. This channel has always explored various ways to play EDH with everything from pauper and randomized commanders to cEDH.

    • @MM.Gambill
      @MM.Gambill 2 месяца назад +3

      it won ONE of the two games against 3 decks that represented very little interaction, specifically the atraxa player drawing quite a few cards yet having no respone to the nadu player multiple turns in a row. in a high level cedh game with top tier decks nadu is good, but not any more broken than other cedh decks.
