TFS! Instead of using Ziploc bags to crinkle the seam binding ribbon, I put mine in aluminum foil and made little balls. It worked so much better..and you can squeeze the foil ball as tight as you want your ribbon! ☺️
This was an amazing tutorial, and every time I thought you had used all the possible media, you brought out more! I can shop from my supplies and try the same. As a retired Science teacher, I appreciate your experimental procedure that compares the results uniformly. Good data collection, you! Your thorough time stamp list with associated links in the description has sold me on all things jenofeve. Subscribed!!!
Hey Jen of Eve ... You've turned me on to Seam Binding ... I love all of the options for coloring them. I've got to get some!! Thanks so much for taking the time to show us all of the inking options.
So useful!! When I'm thrifting/yard sailing - the one thing that seems to always be in abundance in every amateur sewer's kits and LOTS of it is seem binding! I always seem to end up with a few spools in my crafty thrift grab bags And I always think- gosh that should be useful and you've just made my day!!! Thanks!
I wish I found this video years ago :(. Jam packed full of information and I couldn't find it. Now that I have found it I'm saving this! Thank you so much!! I love this video!
I ordered my first roll of Seam Binding ... got the white like you suggested. I absolutely love this ribbon and just love this RUclips video. I love how you've taken the time and showed many ways for coloring and using the ribbon. Thanks so much Jennifer!!
Thank you so much Jen. I live in Canada and I really get a kick out of your accent, I've been quoting you around the house. I am about to make my first journals and have been binge watching your videos. Who needs Breaking Bad when we've got you! Thank you thank you thank you.
Great video! I learned a lot and I've been coloring my own seam binding for a couple of years now. I can't believe it never occurred to me to try Alcohol Inks! Great tip!! Some tips I have for you: When you wet the seam binding a little before you add the color, it will give a more solid color all over it. Adding the color to a dry seam binding will give you those more distinct light to dark spaces in between. Doing multiple shades of ink (I've done it with Distress Ink) onto the ribbon with a light spritz of water and then crinkling/"scrunching it" will give you the color blends you want. Like when you added the blue and the pink and wanted some purple. when you do more than one color, the more you "wipe" the ribbon around the mat the more blending you will get with the colors. Thank you for sharing!! I LOVE the antique jar lid idea and I have to get some Dylusions now. that color was AMAZING!
I LOVE THIS VIDEO... "WOW" YOU went way beyond a "How To" video. This is the BEST video I have seen in a long time. Thank YOU so much for all your hard work... I enjoyed every minute of this video... "WOW"
Even though this is 3 years ago... I'm so blessed to have watched this video. I am new to making Journals, and have not yet built up my supplies. Doing so can be a daunting task, because there's so much out there to purchase, yet you have made it affordable to buy seam binding by just beginning with WHITE! I THINK YOUR AMAZING... and I wish you lived near me, so I could meet you in person. I live in Georgia, 30 minutes outside of Chattanooga TN. YOUR FABULOUS IN ALL OF THINGS YOU TEACH!
WOW!! THIS IS GREAT! I love how they will match colors we are using in our projects. Brilliant! I had many colors of seam binding in my CART to purchase. So I deleted them all, except WHITE! I went to the "Zipper" people you suggested in the description. Thank you for that source. The ones I was buying were $18!!! I'm very excited to see how I can dye & crinkle my own. I was actually online trying to learn if we can dye seam binding. And your video came up!!! So it's a twofer!! I found out how to dye and ALSO found YOU! Yay! Its was very exciting to watch you dye all the different ways. I stayed up WAY TOO LATE watching!! Couldn't turn it off! Haha! Super video. Thank you. Austin, TX USA
What a great video! I appreciate you taking the time to show so many mediums and the results. I had no idea how people were getting this lovely curly lacy stuff, lol. You have so much stuff to play with! Thanks again, Jennifer. :) ~~Liz
Dear Jennifer, thank you for the great tutorial video on coloring seam binding! I've just bought my first seam binding (with eggshell color - it looks a lot like white) and I was thinking about coloring it with distress inks or sprays. So glad to see that many other products work as well!💖💖💖💖💖💖
Thank you so much for doing this video! I thought there had to be a way to make it....never thought about it being so easy. All that ribbon is just beautiful like everything you do. I can't wait to try it! Thanks again for sharing. :) you're the best!
I am so happy to know alcohol markers and alcohol inks worked. One thing I didn't see u use is acrylic paints. Like distress, Dylusions, or any cheap acrylic paint. I have used them. I am gonna have to try the color bursts. :) that would be real pretty too. Thank u for this Awesome video. So many great options. I just got my hug snug a few weeks ago. I ordered mine from eBay. It was $9.95 with free shipping.
+Rosemary Bryson I was pleasantly surprised that the alcohol markers worked so well! I will have to try acrylic paint but I have a sneaking suspicion it might be to stiff once dry but you never know!!! Have fun coloring and crinkling!!! Jennifer
I know this was a old video but I really enjoyed seeing this all again. You forget what you have to play with. I was just thinking it would be fun to do with sari silk now.
Brilliant tutorial Jen,I've saved to playlist. Thank you for doing this for all of us,it's very useful to know these things and products. Blessings xox
+jen of eve designs I ordered some seam binding from the lady and it only took a week from the states to the uk so thank you for telling us where to go because in the uk it's expensive, even just a yard is around £2 gbp so I thinks that's around $3/4 I really appreciate it Jen. Thank you once again xxx
Thank you Jen for trying all these different mediums for coloring seam binding! I learned so much and can't wait to experiment with what I have. Happy 2020 to you and yours!
Awesome info!!! I mixed up some instant coffee in a spray bottle and colored some seam binding with that.... really works well...... but now I see I didn't have to go to all that fuss... cudda just used my distress Tea Dye or Vintage Photo ink!!! Thanks for the video!!!
Thanks for this cool vid! I had used sprays but hadn't thought about using the the mat and dot of color with clear water spray. Sure saves time and makes it vibrant indeed! TFS! ang
+angarama crafts Thank you so much! I surprised myself a couple of times!! Like when the markers worked so well! Now you can match your project perfectly no matter what you are using! Jennifer
Just stumbled onto this video. I have done this with some of my different inkpads and sprays. It is important to remember that some of them are NOT permanent. If your seam binding gets wet, the distress inkpads/reinkers and the dylusions will bleed all over your project. Archival inkpads don't have that problem. India ink is also permanent, as are the alcohol inks and permanent markers.
Hi Jen of eve! I don't know if you are doing this with the seam binding? But, anyway, I enjoyed watching the video! &I also wanted to let you know, that I made my own alcohol ink. It was about 3 years ago. At that time, Hobby Lobby , here in Victoria, Tx. Didn't have this kind of ink. I used "Sharpie " markers & 90 % alcohol". It was a big mess! Thanks, Francine T. Schmidt
I thought you were looking for silicone mat. (I have one & it's amazing. Nothing sticks & it wipes up easy) Anyway, THANK YOU SO MUCH for all that work! . I bought some cream colored seam binding & only have 3 colors of Glimmer Mists so I'm going to give them a try. Again, thank You. xo
Thanks so much for this tutorial - I tried it with lace and crocheted cotton flowers and it worked ! :) Maybe it works with acrylic painting too ? Now I will never ever buy another seam binding or wool than white :) ---thanks a lot
Wow what a cool video all those different media you can use. As far as I know I would just call it satin ribbon I think it's the same thing I'm in the UK though x
Enjoyed your seam binding tutorial. Thought seam binding was sold in colors & crinkled n just couldn't find it at any store...lol. So, was wondering where i can buy seam binding & is that a special glove you use?
+carmen goris Thank you so much! There is a link in the description box below the video to the place where I find my seam binding. The glove is the kind hairdressers use when applying color. Jennifer
Will heat setting the seam binding make it colorfast? I want to dye some seam binding for my daughter's wedding scrapbook. Thank you for this tutorial :)
It really just depends on what you use. If you used something that is permanent when you are using it as it is intended then it will be permanent! Jennifer

Acrylic paints are a little too stiff when they dry...
unless you use a lot of water...
Use Tulip soft fabric paint
I know this was a old video but I really enjoyed seeing this all again. You forget what you have to play with. I was just thinking it would be fun to do with sari silk now.

Yes you are absolutely correct.
Thank you for sharing!
Broke apart the marker, took the tip & the interpart
That held the ink. Put each a small container. Let them set over night.
It was a big project.
Now you can buy the alcohol ink, now. It was a big mess!
Thanks,
Francine T. Schmidt
Yup another cool vid love it keep it up xxxx
awesome video. thanks for the tips. Any way to make it all one solid color?
Thanks Jen. I will no longer be buying ribbon. White seam binding rocks, as do you!
Great tip, thankyou xx
+Gillian Waterhouse Thanks you Gillian! Jennifer
Thanks for sharing!!
I looked for this where you suggested, it's up to $17.99 now. Ugh but l love the idea of it, will get a roll and give it a try.

If you use acrylic paints it will be stiff...
Use Tulip soft fabric paints...
Wow what a cool video all those different media you can use. As far as I know I would just call it satin ribbon I think it's the same thing I'm in the UK though x

Will heat setting the seam binding make it colorfast? I want to dye some seam binding for my daughter's wedding scrapbook. Thank you for this tutorial :)
Shadow Girl I don’t know about that. I haven’t tried to do that. I do use my heat gun to dry it but still not sure.
I love you channel!!!
Hi Jen! What is the seam binding made of? Satin? Fabric? Thanks for the DIY!!
Thank you so much :)
+Wilma B Thank you so much! Jennifer
It's too funny...every time you were deciding which color to use we picked the same ones each time..lol
Does the heat gun set the color? Or will it run if it gets wet again? thanks for sharing!
It really just depends on what you use. If you used something that is permanent when you are using it as it is intended then it will be permanent! Jennifer
Excellent video!!! many ideas. You're great. The best video I've ever seen. Thanks for sharing!! Hugs =D
What about one of those sugar pouring jars? DT has them.
Hi Jennifer, did you put an eyelet in the hole of the top of your jar. Thanks
Can you use regular white ribbon for this method
Lol I want all your scrapes :)
Your seam binding, is it normal white ribbon? Awesome tutorial. Have to give it a go. Hugs. S.A.
