  • Hi everybody! This video covers the complete install of VLAND headlights on my brothers 2008 Mitsubishi Evolution X! We also put in new fog light bulbs. His bumper cover wasn't installed correctly last time so with the new lights and closing gaps this project turned out awesome! Process should be almost identical for 2007 - 2016 Evo X.

Bro so far you’ve been the ONLY person that actually shows how to hook up the lights to the fuse box. These leds have been one of the worst experiences on my project cars. There’s no guide, no good videos, no nothing useful. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR FINALLY HELPING ME

I am so glad it helped my brother! I know before I started I always preferred all the information to complete the task so that's what I try to provide. Thank you for watching the video!

@@bakerRebuilds yeah aye, I was able to figure out almost all of the wiring but not the high beams. Iv been without them for about 4 weeks now and was considering just taking it to a mechanic because I need them to be fixed for when I take my driving test in 2 weeks.

@rngreflex2961 Just in time then, I'm glad. Congrats on the EVO, they're very fun cars.

Hey man great video. I also installed these on my 2008 GSR, but ran into an issue where the headlight bulbs itself flicker when I release the e-brake. Therefore I have to turn the lights on during the day so they don’t flicker. Have you had that issue too or did I just install the bulbs wrong? I used the bulbs from the bland website that comes with the ballasts.

Thank you, I appreciate it! That's interesting, we didn't have any flickering that I'm aware of. The only thing I can think of is when installing an aftermarket head unit that can play dvds, there's a wire that goes to the e brake to distinguish whether the car is parked or not to "safely" allow video play. Other than something like that it's odd that you're e brake would have any effect at all. Not that it matters but I think ours were LEDs.

Finally getting around to replacing my headlights, I have the hid oem headlights too. Was it better to get the led vlands or should I just get the vland xenon style headlights?

It's a fun project! As this is my brother's car he ordered the housings and then we realized we needed bulbs so I researched for something that would be compatible. Found the bulbs on Amazon. As for LED vs XENON it's very subjective. Ours turned out a very pure white color with just a hint of blue. I had HID bulbs on my 350z many years ago, I would imagine the LED bulbs will lasts longer. Hope this helps, good luck with the project!

Can you tell me where you got these leds? I have the same car and same headlights but have stock oem ballast xenons...i want to fit these leds on and call it a day

We picked them up on Amazon. I think they were D2H. Like $40. Do some research for which LED option is compatible to your headlight housing.

Hey, for the fusebox connection i see you have yours in a different spot. Can you just put the fuse anywhere? Seems like everyone is putting there's wherever, but you're the only person ive see put their acc in that area. Can you talk to me more about that? Ive been having a lot of issues with these lights and i believe this to be the cause.

I'm pretty sure we just put in one of the extra/empty slots that are labeled as such on the fuse cover. This was a while ago so I can't quite remember. LEDs are low power consumption so I'd assume they can pretty much get power from anywhere. What kinds of issues are you having?

@@bakerRebuilds I am having a couple issues honestly. The original issue was that my lights never displayed the Demon eyes because the HIDS were on all the time. They don't shut off with parking lights or off mode. The new issue I'm having though, is that now I have no low or high beams, just drl and demon eyes. I have tested that the fuse is not blown as OEM headlights work without issue and I know that at least one bulb is still working (drivers side).
I had to install a relay and Anti-Flicker capacitor to get them to work, which seems like most people don't have to do (while I bought the relay before the Anti-Flicker, the wiring is set up to where the Anti-Flicker is BEFORE the relay).
I currently have the acc cable for the DRLs plugged into the top most 20amp connection (the one that sits under the 10amp) on the headlight section of the fuse box.
      Full configuration:
      1. Bulb > Anti-Flicker > Relay > Ballast > Bulb
      2. Acc Connector > Fuse box
      3. Relay > Ground to Metal
Relay Fuse > Positive Battery Terminal
Also please forgive me if I'm not using the Correct terms, I am very new to this, cars, and have learned everything by myself.

@Mistress1623 No not at all, seems like you're doing just fine, good for you!
Unfortunately out of what I'm good at I'm the least of an electrician and it's hard to trouble shoot without the physical car.
I can tell you that mine did not have ballasts, they're just LEDs. Being on the 20 Amp in your fuse box should be fine, you know you have power so that's probably a non issue. I also did not need this anti flicker device. I'd recommend picking up a really cheap volt meter so that you can test things and continue on your self taught journey. Otherwise someone local with better electrical understanding than either of us may be your best bet.

@Mistress1623 From what you're describing it sounds like something is hooked up funky as far as the plugs/wiring directly off the headlight housing or maybe even internally. I'm not sure how you would still have DRL but your high/low would drop out. Seems odd to me.

@@bakerRebuildsI've just put my headlights on today and I didn't connect the fuse for the drl...the DRLs work without the fuse cable/wire....what is the purpose of connecting the DRL wire to the fusebox?
