Hi Dan C... I want to personally thank you for all your videos that you post I watch most all of them I still have a lot to go through. I also am from Michigan I live in the Ann arbor area it's nice to meet a fellow beardsman that lives in the same state and to know that you are very popular RUclipsr.... @@DanCBearded also I feel like the oiling of the comb after washing will help with the scuffed comb issue I asked you about on Instagram a few weeks ago 👍
Hey Dan, just wanted to say thanks for making this video. I’ve been wondering how to do this ever since I got my first ox horn comb and this video answered all of my questions, thanks!
AWESOME VIDEO!!!! I remember once being told to keep combs and brushes clean, so omw to watch the brush video now!! I had a question, but I cant seem to remember what that question was now mid comment 🤦🏽♂️
Thanks Dan C, I was going to text you and ask you what you recommended on cleaning brushes and combs you must have read all our minds. love this channel
"you're gonna need an old toothbrush. This is one that I finished using." *Pulls out brand new toothbrush with perfect bristles* Good video! I was just wondering about this earlier
Thanks for the review very informative. Only thing is why do you put oil on the comb at the end? Seems like a a unnecessary step. What is the benefit? By no means am I knocking that step at all but just trying to get some more info on it. Thanks again
Great question! The first time you use the comb in your beard you are going to be covering it in beard oil anyway, so there can be absolutely not harm done. However, there is benefit. After you have cleaned the comb, there are small pores in the comb, even though you cannot see them. The oil is going to be clean and seal those pores. Especially if you allow the oil to sit for some hours before using it.
Have you ever had a ox horn comb get distorted from the water? I left one in the shower once and it got all distorted and messed up. I did fix it though! I stood is upright with the bristles down all night and it straightened out again.
Great video, Dan. Quick question. I don't have unscented oil for the end part of the process. But I do have pure castor oil that I add to thinner oils from time to time. Can I end this process with castor oil on the combs?
@@DanCBearded Thank you so much for the quick response. And thanks for all you do, I look forward to when you're doing this full time, and will continue to support all of it as much as I can! 🤘👍
I am thinking on buying an ox horn comb. I have heard that you couldn’t get those wet because it will make the material brittle, but since you put beard oil on after will it be ok?
Ended up jumping here from the brush video and really appreciate these videos however I do have a question: does the same process apply for wooden combs? Also how often would you recommend cleaning combs and brushes?
@@DanCBearded For sure! I am also sure most of us don't do it as often as we should. At least with my Chicago combs I just cycle them out of the shower, like you do.
Well done! I did wonder why a comb-cleaning video would be longer than for brushes. I didn't think Kent's cellulose acetate combs were at all porous, although I could see oiling ox horn, which very well could be somewhat porous. I do wonder how you kept nearly all the gold lettering on the Kent comb intact, the coating comes off of mine rather quickly.
I use this comb every single day, and it is a good 9 months old too. I am not sure how the lettering has stayed so well. Maybe it is the oil coating after the wash?
Hey Teach, my combs are wooden is that gonna be a good thing to do? I've always heard wooden beard and mustache combs are better than plastic because they aren't as rough on the hairs?
If you get a quality plastic comb like a Kent comb, they are amazing. This method would be decent for wood combs but I am going to make a different video showing the best way. Mainly using mineral oil
Thanks for tips, just a quick question, I've been getting a lot of pimples in my beard for the past month, at first I though I was using too much beard oil, but I've reduced the amount, but the acne continues
Any beard oil would work fine 👊 and this method would be good for a wood comb, but there is a better method. I will make another video for that. Mainly you use mineral oil to clean the wood comb
Hey Thomas! If I have a nice wooden comb, I am going to clean it in a different way. I will make a video on it, but summary is use mineral oil & a toothbrush
No, it shouldn't. Beard wood combs should be too small and compact to warp. I am going to make a different video for cleaning wood combs. This method would work fine, but the best way for a REAL wood comb would be to clean with mineral oil
Thanks for the info Dan C 👍🏻idk if you've ever use every man Jack products but I've used the balm and oil in the Sandlewood highly recommend them but I also used there wax and I didnt like it at all. if your looking for a video to do, review every man Jack's products I'd appreciate it to hear someone elses opinion before I try the rest of there stuff.
So 2 questions, one did you make the wooden comb cleaning video? And 2 after the comment about the breakdown of oxhorn in water does it change how you clean your combs? Do you find after so many cleanings the integrity of the comb is compromised and it breaks or you need to replace it, just curious after seeing that comment lol, I'll still use your method until you make a new video saying there's a better way lol
First! DanC!!! What a pleasant surprise to stop for a quick break and bam!!!! Glad I got to catch this my brother. Definitely gotta back track for what I missed. Never cleaned my combs to this level so this is very much appreciated. You da man!!!!
@@DanCBearded k thanks I didn’t want my comb to get rusted it has a butterfly knife handle and I got it from a friend do you know if I should take the comb part off of the handle or will the handle be fine
Real ox horn stinks when you soak it. It smells like sulfur. Also, anybody who works with horn as a crafting medium knows repeated soaks will weaken it you usually soak horn to soften and shape it. A finished comb personally I'd just rinse and not soak then just shake it dry.
I never owned a comb in my life (shaved head) then my lady gifted me some beard balms and comb. I noticed it was getting disgusting and grimy. So I whipped out the pocket knife and scrape it down. Took a while and didnt very clean. This video shows a process that I will not do. Too much time and effort for a comb. Plus, who owns toothbrush just for comb cleaning?
Stronger is not always better. Stronger can take layers of the combs and you do not want to do that. Beard washes are becoming less and less expensive. It smart to use the products the tool is intended to come in contact with, or at the least something similar
How about an all wooden comb? I use an all wooden comb (cheap) in the shower but I don’t know about soaking it.
I will make a video on that! Summary = use mineral oil
I clean my comb with mineral oil and tooth brush. Works great
@@mattbell9031 exactly! For the video I will make sure to use Bell's wood working comb 👊
@@DanCBearded Hi Dan, would be great if you could do that video (or has my youtube searching let me down?)
