Anyone noticed the Chibnall Pattern: This episode: Doctor Rory and Brian get teleported from Amy to beach. Ghost Monument: Doctor, Graham, Ryan and Yaz are lost in space and get teleported to 2 different alien ships with 2 companions/Doctor each. Spyfall: Doctor gets taken by the Kassarvin but leaves fam behind on plane crash. Nikola Tesla’s Night of Terror: Yaz and Tesla get teleported to alien spaceship but nobody else. Fugitive of the Judoon: Captain Jack teleports all of the companions to a stolen ship but can’t teleport the Doctor. Chibnall loves teleporting characters to split them up.
6:16 It's where Bad Wolf Bay was filmed, but it's not Bad Wolf Bay in this story. BTW, the cliffs/rocks around the beach are a happy hunting ground for fossil hunters, which is quite fitting for this episode!
One thing to remember is Matt Smith's Doctor is the Eleventh. There have been several cases where previous Doctors have directly caused the deaths of villains. Granted usually it's by manipulation and trickery... causing their plans to backfire, but there have been a few instances where the Doctor had a direct hand in someone's death.
Maybe we could re-write the episode so that the Doctor is encouraged to run away and save himself by some character we just met, and they could sacrifice themselves in order to kill the baddies. On a positive note, I felt more emotional loss over the dinosaur's death than I did for any of the characters in last season.
The shot with Brian sitting on the edge of the Tardis always brought this thought to my head. Sometimes all you need is a bacon sammy and a hot cuppa for all to be right with the world.
The way Eleven turns dark at the end, shows how The Doctor has no mercy for people like Solomon and it also shows how Chris Chibnall is a brilliant writer, there is a blend of comedy, action and darkness which is what Doctor Who is all about.
@@Longshanks1690 Choosing to try to save one terrible person doesn't mean that somebody should automatically also try to save every other terrible person. How many times has he tried to save terrible people, and how does it always work out? Maybe he's just had enough for now. And I never said he's Batman, I was just pointing out that Batman also doesn't kill.
I'm finally caught up on the reactions so I can finally comment on time!! I love your reactions so much, they always make me smile! I don't think it's that out of character for the Doctor to condemn someone to death and I really enjoyed seeing a darker version of 11 in Series 7. Also, Megan, don't worry about the Doctor flirting, River is definitely flirting with beings of all species/ genders while he's away!! :')
Megan stating the fact that the doctor is married to River; is literally how me and my best react to it. Secondly that kiss between Rory and the doctor was not scripted.
Great reaction as ever, guys. With regards to the Doctor not saving Solomon, I don't think it's out of character for him at all. The Doctor has killed before, as we have seen on screen in various Classic Series stories, and I think it adds more depth to his character. Of course, I don't want to see the Doctor wielding a machine gun in every episode and constantly mowing down the bad guys, but seeing him in this light from time to time proves that he isn't this perfect pacifist as the New Series tries to represent, and that he is flawed just like everyone else.
@Bradley Willard No, it’s monstrously out of character for who the Doctor is meant to be after the Time War. You’re omitting the fact that had such an immense impact on him and his attitudes to violence. nO oNe’s PeRfEcT is not an argument in this case.
King Edward "Longshanks" I, Hammer of the Scots, Lord of Wales and King of England Solomon was an unrepentant genocidal maniac, why would the Doctor let someone like that live?
King Edward "Longshanks" I, Hammer of the Scots, Lord of Wales and King of England So you wouldn’t consider the Twelfth Doctor killing multiple Cybermen with his sonic screwdriver in ‘The Doctor Falls’ out of character? Or when he basically initiated the death of that soldier at the hands of the Dalek antibodies in ‘Into the Dalek?’ Also, Solomon was a nasty piece of work, and by the end of the story, it was clear that he hadn’t redeemed himself at all, so the Doctor basically turned his back. He wasn’t directly responsible for his death, he just didn’t decide to save him. I respect your opinion, but having the Doctor as this perfect hero doesn’t necessarily always work. What makes a good character is that they’re flawed, and the Doctor, as we have seen, can make mistakes.
I know you said it gets readdressed in the next one re the Doctor killing Soloman, and I like that 7A had these sort of mini arcs going on, but Chibnall does seem to have the Doctor's morality very confused when writing 13 (TWWFtE, Arachnids, Kerblam!, Battle, Spyfall, CYHM?, Timeless Child) and he doesn't really seem to get the Doctor like Moffat or RTD did.
12:23 WOW! I never even thought about it like that, but now that she said it and the way LMAO! Ya know they never said why! Solomon The Trader wanted The Queen Nefertiti And! he did sound creepy AF when he was talking, so maybe Megan is right and he is a big old perv . I love how the 2 of you have on rose colored glasses when it comes to The Doctor's more darker actions
It’s funny I love this episode. I quite enjoy the prototype “fam” - this could very well be my favorite Chibnall episode. Compact, solid story told with a bit of a moral dilemma left at the end there.
Back when this episode aired I didn't think much of the ending. Now after time has passed its quite a dark moment. I do think the Doctor has a soft spot for the Silurian's. It would have been nice to have some dialog explaining the Doctors reasonings. We have seen darker side of the Doctor but don't think he has acted on them like this so cold. Killing the Cybermen at the beginning of A Goodman Goes to War was out of anger but still his dark side poking out. He has directly and indirectly killed in the past so it isn't new. This does feel different like before you may give the Doctor a slight pass regarding his actions, with this maybe not. This part of the series does show the darker side of the Doctor more upfront. It's a fun light episode quite enjoyable with no real mind-blowing parts. Theres nothing really special about this part of the series until you know when.
Hey, I've got a great idea. The 25th of March will mark Patrick Troughton's 100th birthday. To celebrate, why don't you and Megan react to his first story, the Power Of The Daleks (all six episodes of it)?
The ruthless Doctor: Nine: Allowed Cassandra to explode by denying her boys to "moisturize" her. Ten: "The Family of Blood", enough said. Eleven: Say goodbye Solomon. Twelve: Megan hasn't seen him, but he's got killer eyebrows so what do you think. Thirteen: I don't have an example as I stopped watching the series.

Re: the Doctor leaving Solomon to die, the next episode actually provides some insight into that.
I love Brian; he's delightful. :)

@Alfie 0202 Come on Chris, sock accounts are a bit pathetic, don’t you think?
Remember what David Tennants doctor did to the family of blood?
@swan champ I remember that he tried to save Davros.
Just like at the end of Batman Begins; just because he doesn't kill, it doesn't mean he has to save them.
@shadow_walkerOZ The Doctor literally tries to save Davros in Journey’s End. He is not Batman.

Wow. Chibnall really didn't like the word companion.
“Do have any vegetable matter in your trousers, Brian?” “Only my balls” Cracks me up every time 😂
Its not out of character. Check out Hartnell in the first story, Tom Baker approved suicide and Colin Baker strangling Perry.

My first episode :)

So you guys basically forgot Waters of Mars? He blew the entire station up.
Tick tock!

No one cares about you
I miss the days when this was the dumbest thing attached to Chibnall’s name.
King Edward "Longshanks" I, Hammer of the Scots, Lord of Wales and King of England I actually quite liked this episode.
King Edward "Longshanks" I, Hammer of the Scots, Lord of Wales and King of England But Cyberwoman aired in 2006.
She keeps talking when the scenes go on and later says she didn't understand.
Doctorsaur Who?
I actually never much liked the first few episodes of this season.
