Battle of the 500M Divers - BREITLING SuperOcean vs Sinn U50 Overview

  • When it comes to mid-tier luxury divers, the Breitling SuperOcean and Sinn U50 are very similar with specs. But how do they compare head-to-head? In this video I give an in-depth overview of each and contrast which one may be better, depending on your use case.
    Note, I was considering adding my Tudor Pelagos to the mix, but it differs more than the SuperOcean or U50, as it's titanium and has an in-house movement. I wanted to keep the overview comparable for steel divers with ETA/Sellita-based Swiss automatic movements.

    I have 2 Breitling Superocean watches and absolutely love them! That being said, I love the rugged look of the Sinn and it seems comparable in many ways. The Sinn is less expensive too. I definitely take a closer look at one when I'm in the market for a new diver's watch.

    A month ago these two were part of the 4-5 I had whittled my decision down to. I bought the Sinn U50. I love comfort and I thought it had the best chance of being ultra comfy and still be a beast of a diver. I ordered the S trim Level- all black and fully tegimented. I am waiting for it to arrive. Allegedly I may have up to about 45 more days of waiting. Thanks for the video to help hold me over.

    For me it’s the Sinn U50. I really like the look. Very utilitarian. I like it so much I put down my down payment on a fully regimented model. Now the wait begins.

      Yes. I had to send Sinn a deposit to hold my place on the waiting list.
      Once I got an email from them I hand to send the balance.
      That was two years ago. The watch is great. The perfect size. The U1 was just too big for my wrist.

I don't wanna sway your decision if you haven't gotten a piece yet, but I just wanted to say that the tegimented stainless steel is harder than I thought. Even though this watch is my daily beater, it still has no clearly visible scratches or dings. So it's definitely a durable watch.

    Really enjoyed this video. One issue that might be worth considering is long term maintenance. I went through this comparison on my own last year. Ultimately, I went with the Breitling. I really like Sinn, but I was concerned that the technology they use (e.g. inert gas filled, copper sulfate capsule) would limit who could service the watch as well as part availability. I’d like to hear about others maintenance experiences with Sinn as I still consider Sinn a primary contender for my growing collection. Thanks for the video - great information!

    As a Sinn U1 owner, my very obviously unbiased opinion would have to be that the Sinn U50 actually beats the Breitling in over all finishing, and with that bracelet having a proper diver's extension. (For those who won't pick up on this, I had a touch of sarcasm here.) I think the Sinn's middle links that many reviewers include as part of the lug-to-lug measurement is kind of fair, but kind of unnecessary, as it really naturally tapers down with the rest of the bracelet, to wrap around the wrist naturally.
    Great video! Keep it up :)

    If one is actually looking for a tough, tool like watch for sporting / outdoors activities, then it's the U50 hands down, preferably in a fully tegimented version. That's the one I got for myself, and I am practicing sports (gym, tennis, hiking) at least 5 days a week. Outstanding model. I have the bracelet version, but mostly wear it on the rubber strap, which is incredibly comfortable.

      The moment I read half of your first sentence, I knew 100% that this was a buyers bias opinion. Sure enough started chuckling when I read the first three words of your second sentence 😂😂. Of course the watches we own were gonna praise like crazy cause we own them. As a Breitling superocean owner, I too would recommend it for sporting outdoors activities as that's exactly what I've used mine for and it has never missed a beat. Not sure how the Breitling is also not "tough and super tool like" especially with its captive bezel so I would recommend it over the sinn any day 😂😂, "hands down".

    • @johnnyguitar6697
      @johnnyguitar6697 Год назад

      @@steelsteez6118 You're a mile off the mark. I specifically chose the U50 vs. anything else on the market because it's made of submarine grade steel, which has a hardness of 350 vickers, and the tegimenting (=carburizing) process brings its surface to 1,200 vickers. Compare this to the 200 vickers hardness of the 316L stainless steel the Breitling is made of. So yes, it is objectively much tougher, in the sense it won't scratch nearly as much if subjected to abuse. And the Sinn also has a captive bezel, so the Breitling has nothing on it in this department. Lastly, since 2022, Sinn uses a version of the SW300 whose power reserve has been extended to 56 hours, if one cares about such things.

    Definetely the Sinn. Much better technology and craftmanship and thought after ... The bezel action on Sinn intended the way it is for giving better haptic feedback with diving gloves... There are no design construction or finishing flaws. Everything is there for a reason. Ask Sinn in this.... If you want a more shiny everday toolwatch go with the 104 which comes with awsome finish on a much better price tag than most Breitlings even tho the prices of Sinn went up...
