  • Game of Thrones left a lot of people shocked, STILL! A Song of Ice and Fire is the book series that Game of Thrones is based on. In Game of Thrones Season 8 beloved characters didn't match their book counterparts. Some were unrecognizable. Tyrion Lannister was one of them. In the books Tyrion is not the same guy that we see on the show. In Season 5 the show doesn't adapt Dark Tyrion. He's the same guy he's always been but in the books he's a monster. His journey thru Essos he embraces the Demon Monkey! The Real Tyrion Lannister is Dark, The Real Tyrion Lannister is Evil, The Real Tyrion Lannister didn't show up in Game of Thrones. Ever. In this video I will go over Tyrion's decent into darkness. The Tyrion in Game of Thrones is not the Tyrion you will see in The Winds of Winter! Thanks for Watching!

for the books, George said that Jon would be darker and ruthless, not too near Tywin level evolution. In the show, they approached him with someone who is disillusioned with everything and does not want anything at all. Tyrion in the books and show are the same as Tyrion feels neglected and does not want to do anything. The men were broken beyond hope and filled with despair so that the women of the series may take over. Perhaps in the books we can see balance and gender equality

And it would make sense. In the beginning, we are led to believe the Starks are all good and the Lannisters are bad, except for Tyrion. Now, we see more bad guys like Jaime and Sandor go from being bad/cruel to redeemable characters, it would make sense to have some of the good characters be corrupted by evil like Tyrion, and some of the Starks become bad like Sansa, and maybe even Bran.

Yes girl!! The omission of the Tysha confession was one of the largest book moments left out of the show. There is no reason this should not have been added, it’s not like it would have cost a lot like many other omissions. This is a large part of his character motivation and one of the seemingly small moments that actually mean a lot. All of these little moments add up and a large reason they couldn’t put their story back on GRRM’s tracks in the end. I don't think it was Emmy's as much as fear of viewer count going down. TV shows work like this. They see the way people react to characters and try to play to their strengths. It's why so often in sitcoms you see characters are extreme versions of themselves by the end. People loved Jon and Tyrion and so they made them as likeable as popular. Never showing Tyrions villainous side and never showing Jons darker moments. They turned Tyrion into a voice for the good, and turned Jon into your average action hero.

Yes and no. As a peasant, she was most certainly not a fitting match for a noble. The other thing, is that the children of a great lord are both assets and pieces of a chess board. Noble children can be married off to other families as part of forming alliances. Tyrion had sullied his and his family's reputation by his actions. He had also prevented his use by Tywin in the marriage alliance game. Tywin could always have murdered Tyrion's wife.

Tywin shows what a monster he truly is by his unnecessary cruelty in places where there was no need. Nobody except him, Tyrion, Tysha and the drunk septon knew about the marriage, he could have had it annuled and kept it secret, he could have given Tysha to the Faith, all honorable options. It wasn't the first time a nobleman's son wed a commoner, look at prince Duncan Targaryen and Jenny of Oldstones, Egg only made his son give up his title and kept them around, although this caused a Baratheon revolt. I understand Tywin's harshness with the Reynes and Castameres, they were enemies, but to be so cruel to your own children is pathological. And for Tyrion's value as a marriage candidate for making alliances, Tywin admits in the book that EVERY noble house in Westeros refused such a match and considered it an insult, even though they were scared of Tywin and some of their daughters were ugly, poor or had had bastards. Even Brienne had had more willing suitors, although she was not as rich as the Lannisters, because she wasn't deformed, she was just too tall and too strong for a medieval woman.

While a part of me loves the theory that Tywin was infertile and fathered none of his children, a larger part of me loves the theory that Tyrion is Tywin's only true born child. I want that to be true so badly. Also, that dialogue between Tyrion and Bronn about murdering Joffrey made me think Daenerys's "betrayal for love" could involve Tyrion; that perhaps he'll betray her for the love he bears Cersei's children (most likely Myrcella; I don't think Tommen will live too much longer).

  • @BucketThinkTank14657Nerd
    @BucketThinkTank14657Nerd 4 года назад +55

I think it was primarily because of how well Tyrion's character was received as well as a lot of the characters just started not feeling like good people, they really wanted to keep his relationship with Jaime strong but that came at the cost of the truth. They also just started condensing a lot after season 4, I think that was when they'd really started to fall off. Tyrion's arc never quite feels complete in the show, there's a low point that he reaches but then he meets Daenerys, whatever arc or redemption he's supposed to have is changed to "you just need to put your brain to work". His hesitance at ruling in the finale would have worked after season four after he's killed Shae and Tywin.
But his descent into villainy feels earned and that's what I think is important, you don't have to agree with him becoming this way but you can understand why. Everyone treats you like you are the worst person even when you do so much to prove you aren't and then you finally just snap. I've always wondered how his story will end, will it be a final clash between him and Cersei with Jaime possibly in the middle, will it be Penny, someone who he's pushing away, making him like everyone else, or will it be Mord who probably never got the "more" he was promised in book one?

He could have dealt with him in a different way, maybe bought him off or put him in a black cell for a couple of days to scare him into silence. But murder was the easiest and surest solution. I think Jaime's doubt of Tyrion was significant in his fall from grace but I do believe Tysha is more significant; "where do whores go" isn't just where he's pinning the blame but genuinely the most significant haunting thing for him in my opinion. I think Tyrion's rise in power in Winds with the Second Sons and eventually with Dany will accompany a rise in his esteem and his light side again, and then I expect him to realise he is loved by someone at some point later in the story, be that Penny or someone else. I don't think his arc is at its final point. In fact if Dany is destined to be the final baddie then I could see Tyrion's full circle taking him back to being the good guy against Dany's bad. But perhaps Winds will hold more dark before we see the Dream of Spring, we'll have to wait and see.

I mean in the last episode when he says he loves Danaerys and points out to Jon that not as successively as he does. I seriously don't get what he means ? Like what? Did u wanted a romantic relationship like Jon did?
His devotion is so unreal, and then the betrayal so convenient. It's just freaking amazing how stupid Tyrion is in series.

I think most people who read the books and hate Shay is because of the "My Giant" part of her testimony. She repeats this part over and over in the courtroom not because she has to but because it's funny, not to the reader but to the court and her especially, it shows that she always thought of Tyrion as a pathetic joke.
But this video was great, I haven't seen someone analyze Tyrion in this way and I really enjoyed it.

Just a few other things about Tyrion's villainy: he armed the wildlings of the Vale to get revenge on Lysa but they're only terrorizing smallfolk who did nothing to Tyrion, he used Alyayah as a shield for Shae even though Yaya would and did receive the brunt of the punishment, he openly didnt care about the common people being raped and murdered in the Riverlands brushing it off as just war, he forced the soldiers on his side to act as suicide bombers without their knowledge since they were on the ships loaded with wildfire and they burned along with the enemy soldiers, he had a singer murdered and put in a stew that the common people eat forcing cannibalism on them, he molested Sansa (the fact that he didn't proceed with the rape doesn't discount that) and lusted after her even though she's 12, and he spent ADWD plotting to cause even more war and death whether he would use Myrcella, Aegon, or Dany as his instrument of destruction.

@@octaviablackthorn9 Tyrion was given a choice. He chose to marry a child so he could use her to claim her home. In his own mind, he acknowledges that she is a child and feels shame at his own lust for a child. So he knows what he's doing is wrong. He also chose to molest her before stopping himself from completing rape, purely bc he wants the illusion of consent for the sake of his own feelings.

Tyrion is why I got into this series of books. He is very believable in the sense that the reader sees his struggles & achievements so if he has lost or gained anything then the reader is down with it. Nothing is off screen with Tyrion. I would be pleased with Tyrion coming out on top as a hero or villain or hell...both. The ride would be worth it. The show writers probably saw this huge Tyrion character development and they started to downgrade Tyrion into Happy Monkey Demon. He sings...he dances...he's happy in his misery.

I think Tyrion will essentially cause the most havoc in King's Landing, but I also think he'll regret it. It is foreshadowed in AGOT during his vision, where he has the two heads, one weeping as dragons wheel across the sky. Something I think people need to realize about GRRM is there's a very big unspoken "But...." after everything he says regarding ASOIAF and it's characters. He may say Tyrion is a villain, but I think he's purposely *not* saying that Tyrion will find his way back to the light. Before he does though, he'll become far more terrible than he was in the show.

I think many of the characters will have dark turns in The Winds of Winter.
Daenerys is going to stop trying to compromise and will be more aggressive as she brings her forces back through Essos.
Tyrion will be egging her on the whole time, and letting her know that Aegon is going for the throne to spark conflict, possibly also telling her that Aegon's a fake and that her old patron Illyrio has just been using her for his own ends.
Sansa will be complicit in the death of Robert Arryn
Arya has already started murdering people for the Faceless Men and her own desires.
Bran is warging into Hodor's body in a way akin to rape and may also directly cause his death if the show has any accuracy.
Jon is dead, but if he comes back (I think it won't be until the end of the book or early ADOS myself) he'll basically walk off and abandon humanity for awhile.
It won't be until A Dream of Spring that some may abandon the dark paths they're heading down.

Been years since I read any of the books so it's almost surprising to remember this stuff. Think the show has biased us to always think of Tyrion as the hero, the classic protagonist David vs Goliath with a healthy dose of wine and humor. But in the books he is not just a dwarf but a much more disfigured creature, especially after the Battle of Blackwater Bay.

I woke up this morning thinking about this video. There is a scene in season 8 where Little Finger tells Sansa that is it dangerous to tell people what you really want because it gives them power over you... something like that.
That is when I realised that Tyrion has never said what he really wanted... he actually goes so far to pretend that all he wants is Wine, Women and Neckbones...
Tyrion has a plan but it is only known to him.
