Im working on 4 different trucks right now. Their all original. I am excited at your build philosophy on the Ford. I hope you apply that methodology to the Porsche. Build your own parts as much as possible and "horse trader" for the rest. Most guys get suckered into spending too much on the Porsches...they are fun, but they are just cars. I had a good running 928 for less than $2200. As I shared before, Coldwarmotors and Jonathan W both know how to build exotic stuff on a budget. I think you and your dad have imagination and skills to do the same. God bless your family and hope you have wonderful Christmas in the love of Jesus Christ.
I was hoping we would get to see some work getting done on that truck! I love old work trucks. I'm glad to see it being upgraded and being put to work. I'm in the middle of a similar build i'm building a tow rig/ car hauler as well its a 1970 C30 flatbed dually with a dove tail. It has a 13 foot flatbed with a four foot dove tail. I bought it so I would not have to buy a truck and trailer. The plan is to make the dove tail removable so the truck will be more usable day to day. I am converting to disk brakes all around as well as hydroboost. I think you should look in to converting to hydroboost as well if you plan on towing, it's a game changer. The truck was a 350 truck but someone swapped in a 305. It had a bad transmission in it as well. The main bearings were bad. That said I drove it 3 hours home that way and hulled a car and tractor like that. I was just going to replace just the trans until I found it had the 305 and not the 350 in it. So I am doing a cummins swap with a NV4500. Also a wire wheel on a grinder works 10 times better then a wire will in a drill in less time and will get it down to bare metal. That said I suggest investing is a eastwood sct contour it is the best rust and paint removing tool I have ever used! I hope to see more on this truck! Keep up the good work and I hope you have a Merry Christmas!
@@BudgetBuildz There is also a exhaust manifold that came on the bigger 300 six trucks with a single 2.5'' outlet, another option to keep your eyes open for.
@@BudgetBuildz they're rare, they're a log style manifold, and they don't flow as well as the EFI-style manifolds The 87-96 manifolds are also VERY good iron and VERY crack-resistant thanks to being designed to work with the A.I.R. system. Plus, they're split so a cool sounding dual exhaust is easy or there are headpipes on the market to make a 2-into-1 cheap and easy.
Flapper wheel! There’s some stuff called ospho, it cleans with soap and water! It neutralizes the rust and leaves a white powder after a few days and you just brush it off and paint! It acts as a primer also , I’ve used it and it works pretty well! I believe you can get it at the lumber yard or paint store, it’s pretty reasonably priced! Just an ideal for rusted frames and different things! Just brush it on, it’s runny like water! lol good video guys, can’t wait for another update on the tow truck! 👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Ahh you can't beat those old Ford 300 series six cylinders! Give that baby some love, new gaskets and good pressure washing (steam cleaning really does a nice job) and she will last forever. Sounds like a jewel.. Good Luck man. Cheers!
@@hgone7221 You missed the smog emissions cutoff by just a year. But you can get it registered as a historic vehicle and then it's excluded (I think at least) from smog.
Had a 3/4ton with a 1 ton dually rearend called it my "7/8". I am 72 years old so these truck are in my wheel house. Always had a Ford, love the FE engines.
I'm 50 and still run FE engines myself. I do love the sixes too. I do have one of these 350's but it has a 391, was a tow truck, has a winch almost wide as the cab.
After converting to disc front, I would suggest you put the proper proportioning valve in it. towing you put two thousand pounds behind it that little 6 cylinder is going to eat fuel and have a top speed of 45 or 50. I have to say 63 to 66 Ford pickup was probably my favorite body style, just a cool truck. Definitely going to follow this build.
Wished I live in a area where things are rust free, you'd never see a truck that vintage around here, that was pretty innovative you guys modified the spindles from a newer truck to the front axle. Braking power will be the biggest issue with your old truck the rear drums you will want to rebuild everything. Buy the highest grade brake shoes you can get with new drums, wheel cylinders etc, the front brakes, no cheap brake pads that's for sure, new rotors. I've owned 1970s 1980s F-350 cab and chassis trucks braking power was always an issue. A old 12 valve with a NV4500 would make that a good trailer puller, you could drop a 460 into her but you'll only get 4-5mpg lol.
Sweet truck. Body is in amazing condition. That rearend and disk brakes is a great upgrade. Enjoying the videos and thanks for not cursing every few words like some.
Nice truck! It will make a fine tow truck. You may want to have the heads rebuilt later, have the Valves and Seats replaced with hardened valves and seats for running on unleaded fuel. Look foward to your next video. 😁
For AC, upgrade to serpentine belt from a later model truck. You get the convenience and efficiency of a serpentine belt, more readily available parts, and it all bolts on. Cheap! Love the 300 I-6. Got a few.
The serpentine system is a good setup and readily available (for now). Trying to find compatible pulleys for v belt systems and brackets can be a challenge these days. To use the serpentine setup, you need a reverse rotation water pump. Be aware that Ford, at some point changed the size of the water pump threads that the fan clutch attaches to, so make sure you get compatible parts. There are several different alternators available for that setup. The 3G alternators from the later trucks are the best. They have a bolt on battery connection instead of the plug in connector. There are 2 different case sizes as well. The right side bracket is set up to use either style. The larger case uses a different mounting configuration that allows you to run an A/C compressor with or without the smog pump. The smaller alternator can be run without the smog pump if you don't have an A/C compressor (the belt routing is different without A/C). You would need to run a power steering pump with this setup, or make a delete pulley if you don't ever plan to run power steering or hydroboost. The 93-95 E series vans have a special left side bracket that uses a Saginaw P/S pump instead of the Ford pump. That would be the best setup to get, if you can find one. The Ford pumps are sometimes noisy, but aren't terrible.
It’s an old Ford, they never die, why did you sound so surprised when it started right up? 🤓 It warms my heart to see these old trucks put back into service. I subscribed and I’m looking forward to the build.
Not as expensive as one would think. You can find a decent engine and transmission from a 94-98 Dodge for around $2k-3k. Then just fabricate your own mounts and have a drive shaft made.
The 300 is the most bullet proof 6 cylinder Ford ever made, they went from 1964 or 65 until 1996 when they were replaced with the v6 4.2. A tough 7 main bearing engine that makes a decent amount of torque.
This truck was waiting for someone to turn its key in it for a good cranking and is so ready to go to work! Is amazing how they made vehicles in the past. Nowadays, if a car don't do something, you got to bring a NASA guy to investigate what on Earth happened that it doesn't work?
Restored a '66 F-150 (352 c.i.) in the early eighties. It was a nice truck when I got thru with it. Only had it restored for 2 weeks when a hot rodder t-boned me and totaled it.
Good to see you using safety glasses with the grinder, but just a word of warning with the cutting discs in particular- they just won't cut it if that disc explodes on you, which they do from time to time.. I really recommend putting the guard on the grinder with that type of disc, and/or using a full face shield.. There's no point in taking chances on it IMHO. Also, ear protection is so important with loud tools. Of course, make your own choices, feel free to disregard this post, but I just couldn't not mention it.
I appreciate any recommendations! Thank you! I know I’m really bad about some stuff, I really should...I’m just constantly switching the disk for all kinds of stuff and it’s a pain to take it off and put it back on. You’re right though safety is key and any amount of time is better than a major injury!
HI, I'm an Aussie who had an F100 for many years back in the 80's. I had to sell it when I began international travel pretty much non stop. It is the vehicle I miss most by far. It wasn't 4wd because I could drive it anywhere and didn't need a 4wd outfit. I drove it for years in the Kimberleys and only those that know that country understand what that means to a Vehicle.
@@BudgetBuildz No. I have different pleasures these days...when cov 19 allows. At 60 plus I've found the love of my life and we travel around the world together. Love is much better when you're both mature enough to do it well.
I have a 1966 f-350 too. Mine has a 352 fe. I want to convert it to four wheel drive. I have swapped the front wheels over to 8 lug but still have the stock drum brakes. I hope to change the rear axle this year. I love to see people save this old work horses.
That truck will make a pretty good tow rig even with the 300 six. Every 300 I have ever owned has done incredibly well. I would recommend getting rid of the orange death can fram oil filter, those are junk and have been since around 2000. Cut one open and you will see what I mean. Love the truck thought
i'm just gonna say this from experience i highly recommend against putting long tube headers on that truck. Even though you would get more torque out of it, Long tube headers on those 240/300 engines make it a huge pain to work on. They take up a lot of room and are hard to seated even against the cylinder head. A stock replacment manifold will work better for ease of repair. On my 69 F250 with a 240 i have long tubes and clifford 6=8 intake. it sounds great and runs great. But if you have to remove the starter for any reason. you have to remove the intake and headers to get it out. There is very little clearance down there with Long tubes.
As much as I love the 300 inline 6, this would be a perfect platform for a 5.9 CUMMINS 12 valve or early 24 valve! Already has an inline 6 so minor modifications needed to install one and the older mechanical pumped 5.9's require minimal electronics to run.
Dealing with the brakes on these larger old trucks is one of the main issues I've run into. No front rotors or rear drums are made anymore for a 72 Chevy C30 dually. Rear end parts are another problem. Love the old Ford's.🏁 Enjoying the build.

@@Mike_Neukam your existing alternator will fit the serpentine brackets as well
They were well made trucks and a good choice , nice work.
7.3 that bad boy!!
Cool old truck, but for a tow rig I'd put the cab on the late model parts truck frame, do away with 66 running gear and the 6 cylinder
That's a sweet ride. Last forever!!!
Nice job
Thank you!
Dang I love this truck brother! I miss my 300 straight 6 so much! I like the 7.3L too (have one) but I'd leave that great engine in there.
Great video BTW, subbed
It’s an old Ford, they never die, why did you sound so surprised when it started right up? 🤓 It warms my heart to see these old trucks put back into service. I subscribed and I’m looking forward to the build.
Cory Driver Haha I just still haven’t built the carb on it yet 😅 32 years later...still fires right up! Glad to have you! Thank you!
At Cory Diver.. ALL Old Trucks/American from 1990s and BACK!!
Sounds good
I wish i was watching this when yall put it out so i could tell yall to do a full turbo build on the engine. 100% worth it
All Great Projects..!! Can't wait to see More..!!
Enjoy the Holidays..!
Nice. Maybe you should prime it with rust converter
A Cummins 12V swap and Nv4500 5spd would make this an awesome tow rig
My thoughts exactly!! Sweet truck now put in a good 300 HP 12v Cummins.
A lot of money to do that, he's better off with the 300 I6.
300 is original so it's better
Not as expensive as one would think. You can find a decent engine and transmission from a 94-98 Dodge for around $2k-3k. Then just fabricate your own mounts and have a drive shaft made.
If ur going to tow ull need more power, that 6 doesn’t have it, Cummins or a kitty
I had an 1983 Broncp with the 300 ci six. A fine motor, a stump puller for sure. Great project!
Excellent video! I love that truck!
Travis Layson Thank you! 🙂
You can spray all that rust with phosphoric acid , rust converter prior to repaint. It
Is magic, give it a try
christopher peterson Will give it a try thanks!
The 300 is the most bullet proof 6 cylinder Ford ever made, they went from 1964 or 65 until 1996 when they were replaced with the v6 4.2. A tough 7 main bearing engine that makes a decent amount of torque.
Yessir! and this one makes the highest HP and TQ in its full lineup 🙂
That round sand paper disc cleanerunit is called a flapper disc, the do a really great job
This truck was waiting for someone to turn its key in it for a good cranking and is so ready to go to work! Is amazing how they made vehicles in the past. Nowadays, if a car don't do something, you got to bring a NASA guy to investigate what on Earth happened that it doesn't work?
Haha that’s about right!
Clean engine and add exhaust gaskets. I'm a Ford man and love videos on these older restoration. I m new subscriber.
Very nice project Can't wait to see when your all finished
Garrett Thompson Thank you! Can’t wait to share more!
What a really clean truck....I'm stoked to see how it comes out....you should letter it up with the old school style door hand painted style lettering
Thanks! I would like to! Just have to decide if I want to paint it back with what it had or do something different, would be cool to do my own thing!
@@BudgetBuildz without a doubt use your own....If you have something in mind I can draw it up for you...I was a tattoo artist for 15 years
Restored a '66 F-150 (352 c.i.) in the early eighties. It was a nice truck when I got thru with it. Only had it restored for 2 weeks when a hot rodder t-boned me and totaled it.
Oh no!!
@@BudgetBuildz or buy one more disc grinder, it saves a ton of time and aggravation......
Fjolle303 I’ll have to dig in my penny bank for that....lol maybe soon when I can afford a little extra 🤙🏻 good idea! Thanks!
Old fords always start easy😁
Favourite model of f350
Great find, a true survivor!
Very cool! Maybe you can find another one day?
@@BudgetBuildz No. I have different pleasures these days...when cov 19 allows.
At 60 plus I've found the love of my life and we travel around the world together. Love is much better when you're both mature enough to do it well.
leave the old frame that ford 300 i6 will run forever
I have a 1966 f-350 too. Mine has a 352 fe. I want to convert it to four wheel drive. I have swapped the front wheels over to 8 lug but still have the stock drum brakes. I hope to change the rear axle this year.
I love to see people save this old work horses.
Redpower 1086 Thats awesome! 4wd would be great! I would love to down the road! I do too and enjoy saving them myself 🙂
Had a 1964 c30 406ci(had 292 6) 4speed with granny, 3.73 gears posi diff. Sold. towed 12klbs up hill @35mph, 2nd gear
That truck will make a pretty good tow rig even with the 300 six. Every 300 I have ever owned has done incredibly well. I would recommend getting rid of the orange death can fram oil filter, those are junk and have been since around 2000. Cut one open and you will see what I mean. Love the truck thought
Thanks 🙂 yeah I’ve been hearing that! I’ll swap it out!
Build up the 300 and only replace it if it blows up. Makes it real fun
Cool truck, I'm subscribing because of it .
Thank you! Glad to have you! 😊
i'm just gonna say this from experience i highly recommend against putting long tube headers on that truck.
Thanks for the info! 🙂
Thats a sweet tow rig!!!
As much as I love the 300 inline 6, this would be a perfect platform for a 5.9 CUMMINS 12 valve or early 24 valve!
Already has an inline 6 so minor modifications needed to install one and the older mechanical pumped 5.9's require minimal electronics to run.
Mike Dillman An idea down the road 🙂
The minute I seen this truck the exact setup crossed my mind, could only imagine.
That cab and Flatbed would be great dropped on a Second Gen Cummins 12 valve, NV4500 rolling frame. Say 25mpg.
Going to subscribe for this build, if you can find a gear vendors overdrive off of an old rv it might keep that 300 happy while towing.
Glad to have you! 😊 That would be awesome, I’ll keep an eye out!
Dealing with the brakes on these larger old trucks is one of the main issues I've run into. No front rotors or rear drums are made anymore for a 72 Chevy C30 dually. Rear end parts are another problem. Love the old Ford's.🏁 Enjoying the build.
I am a new subscriber and sure like the content from what I have checked out here so far. I have to tell you that I am in love with your 1966 F-350 former (Auto Parts Delivery) truck. I am very happy with the direction that you decided on for this build, nice to keep it all Ford. I know that I am behind the progress that has already been done on this sweet old girl but I wanted to start at the first video and view forward to catch up to current. Such a solid truck witch is very hard to find, congrats on finding this truck. You all take care and please keep the videos coming.
Steve The Ford Guy Really glad to have you along with us! So glad you’re enjoying! Haven’t had a good video out in a minute on the truck but we definitely have a ton planned in the near future! Hope you enjoy!
I drug an old truck like that out. Got it running, hooked up a 33' trailer, left Louisiana for Alaska. Made it across the Yukon river.
Haha awesome!
@@BudgetBuildz I did not say it was easy. There were some long days working on that truck with a thousand miles to town either way. I took another truck just like it and took everything but the body and frame with me. It was in the horse trailer. Two Jon boats on top.
