What if I am taking a photo with the portrait setting, all lighting in the room is perfect, want to get the blurred background but I don't want the flash. The flash automatically pops up for this mode, can I disable it?
For anyone else wandering the Flash Off Mode is selected using the mode selector dial on the right-hand top part of the camera. It's the mode with the tiny lightning bolt in a box with a diagonal line through it (the one between 'CA' and A+)
i own a cannon EOS 500d and i just have a quick question, my flash stopped working, everytime i try to used it, the message "flash busy" comes up. Do you know why or how i can fix this?
hi rick my manual is in german so i rely on your videos to educate me on what i dont un derstand!! i was wondering do i have a built in wireless transmiter on this camera or when i conect one to this dose it mean my on board fash is disabed when im using a seperat flash,is thair any way to use both?? thanks.
thanks for the quick response rick! i have just purchased a Phottix Tetra Wireless 2 trigger,a Canon Speedlite 540 EZ and a Canon Speedlite 380EX,as i found the on board flash to be useless in many situations!! so im very new to using external flash, and would really appreciate some info on how to set them up on my camera and use them. in response to your response! if the transmitter has to go on the camera i cant connect a flash to it and the transmitter at the same time! im confused.com!!
Rick what is your opinion on UV filters? I have a friend who suggested always keeping a filter on my lens for protection but I've also seen others say it degrades the images so I'm kind of confused on the subject.
your videos are great help.... I just got into photography and got a t1i with a 18-200mm sigma lens......I want to do a lot of wildlife shooting......how do these cameras hold up to cold weather?
Nicole Madon Ok but they are not built or sealed like the higher end ones. I would not take it out in much below 0, official specs say 0 - 40 °C, 85% or less humidity. Watch out when taking it from warm to cold and visa versa as condensation builds up.
p.s i requested u on face book as ross.cracknell u can inbox me in more detail if u like and feel free to check out my pictures and leave some helpful comments anytime u like! thanks in advance rick your helpfulness is awesome mate!!

Thank you, this was very helpful
A lot of time was spent describing where flash-off mode will be used rather than getting along with it and showing how to do it.
Nothing to show. If this mode is set flash don't fire. No need to do a shoot to show that.
As Luci said below too, The main question is how to get to the menu where one can disable the auto flash? Your video starts already in that menu.

Can you turn it off while still using the close up mode?
Great videos Rick. How far are you planning on going with the 500d series?

Yes but how do you even get to the first step 🤣🤣🤣
I set flash mode off. But I switched to video mode and got back to camera mode to see the flash back again on!! Why is it..pls help
The flash is off in flash off mode but not in any other modes you switch to. So if you go to video then to program or auto it will be on.
This video sucked didn't even show how to turn it off
The one who understands, the one who understands, the one who does not understand, yet he does not understand
@@pkislam7299 is that English
Icon...on sport mode the flash is disabled by default and there is no option to turn on
Thank you very very much
You are welcome.
Can you tell me how to do it on Canon EOS digital 300D
How do u put it in sport mode with flash off
it's on the mode dial???
How did we go flash off settings why you not show
It is literally on the mode dial of the 500D. Once the mode dial is on Flash Off the flash will not fire even in darker situations.
