Let me give you a sneak peek.
    Why Traditional Methods Fail
The reason traditional methods fail is that they address the behavior, not the underlying problem. Your ADHD child’s behavior is a symptom, not the root cause. They lack the executive functioning skills to articulate their struggles, leaving their behavior as the only form of communication.
    The WTF Behavior Funnel
To transform chaos into calm, you need to get to the root of your child’s behavior challenges. The WTF Behavior Funnel consists of five questions to uncover these roots. If the answer to a question is no, you move on to the next.
Question 1: Are My Child’s Basic Needs Being Met?
Basic needs include food, sleep, and exercise. ADHD children may have issues with these due to stimulant medications suppressing appetite, sensory processing issues, and impulsivity leading to skipped meals. Sleep disorders are also common in ADHD children. Exercise, which boosts dopamine, is crucial for their well-being.
Question 2: Does My Child Need to Feel Seen, Heard, or Understood?
Connection is key. When your child says, “My teacher hates me,” or “I don’t want to do my homework,” validate their feelings instead of rushing to fix or dismiss them. This makes them feel understood and can significantly calm their behavior.
Question 3: Is My Child Emotionally Dysregulated?
Emotional dysregulation, though not in the DSM-5, is a major aspect of ADHD. Recognize when your child’s brain is hijacked by stress and use strategies to calm them down. Movement, which boosts dopamine, is an effective way to help them regain control.
Question 4: What Lagging Skills Are Getting in My Child’s Way of Meeting Expectations?
ADHD is fundamentally an executive functioning deficit. Your child isn’t being rude or defiant on purpose; they lack the necessary skills. Identify the lagging skills and teach them. My bootcamp includes a 75-page ebook filled with strategies to help teach these skills.
    Example: Starting a Task
Break the task into smaller chunks.
Make the task novel, interesting, competitive, or urgent.
Help your child trick their brain to get started.
Provide a visual of the finished task.
    Make time visible.
Ensure they have the necessary supplies.
    Provide a natural dopamine boost.
    Support their working memory.
