Hi, I have just 'stumbled' onto your channel & glad I did on this piece. I am a disabled, retired Senior Master of Art with the Education Department of South Australia & I love watching people working with wood because one of my 'majors' in training was in Sculpture, mainly in wood. Watchin videos of people working in wood helps helps take my mind off the constant pain that I suffer with. I love to see people take a piece of 'firewood (so to speak)' & turn it into a 'work of Art'. I love the grain & depth of colour in Black Walnut', it is quite beautiful. This is a delightful bowl you have turned here & I look forward to viewing more of your 'work'. Cheers, Don from South Australia.

Don your comment made my day! I am more than pleased that my video gives you some relief of the rigors of life in the later years particularly when one has to put up with pain and discomfort. Thankyou for taking the time to write your comment and watch my videos. More to come. Cheers! 🥂

That was some nasty looking ring shake and cracks on that slab. Fine job working around all that. Black walnut does make for some spectacular pieces and yours is no exception.

Looks like maybe a 50-50 grind on your bowl gouge? I looked for it on your tools list but maybe just missed it. How do you like it? Is there a big difference from the 40ish grind?

Yes it is, and I like the longer grind as I can use the wings for finer cuts. To be honest the equal sides change equality as I get slack in accurate sharpening. Cheers
