Enhance Your Portraits With A Theme | Take and Make Great Photography with Gavin Hoey

You can use a theme to tie different portrait sessions together with a repeating style. A theme can take a basic portrait and add layers of context and emotion until it becomes a story. In this video, Photographer Gavin Hoey takes you through his process of developing a simple style idea into a full-scale themed photo shoot. With the look already decided, Gavin’s first job is to try out various backgrounds in his small home studio to find one that matches the theme. Next Gavin shows how the theme can be further enhanced by a simple one-light set-up.
Finally, Gavin shows how you only need to theme what the camera sees. He adds a few props and a couple more Flashpoint lights, to really maximize the style of the themed photo session.
