This song uses the Key C
This lesson is special as it is only 5 notes but sounds so cool. Welcome to 3rd Position (minor) playing. All this means is on your Key C harmonica your root note is -4 which is a D note. We are playing in D minor.
D minor Pentatonic scale (means 5 notes)

Licks
1) -4 -4 -5 6
2) -6 7 -6
3) -6 6
4) -6 6 -5 -4
Try playing all licks together.

I’m sure all of this scale talk can seem confusing. All you need to know is what harmonica works and will have the right notes for particular songs. Minor chords sound more moody/sad and major chords are more happy. I love minor chords as they give a moody feeling to a song.

If you have a friend who plays a chordal instrument like guitar, piano or ukulele then get them to play these chords and you can try jamming using these 5 notes.

I took the $35 plunge and got a Special 20 and the difference from the Bluesband is night and day, even for a beginner.

Juzzie I'm So glad I found you!! I've been a OnearmD Mexican since I was 16 yo. Cancer now I'm on my 5th bout with Cancer. That being said I bought a "C" Harmonica. As I lay here recovering from Cancer eye surgery I want to So Badly to pick up playin this Harp. I'm just beginning to put my lips correctly. Over time it gets easier. Try pushing your lips out more 👍

I have been playing about 3 months now and I initially learned to play single notes by “u blocking”, but I feel restricted now when I try to bend or anything more. Would you advise to learn tongue blocking instead or? Thanks mate
I just use lips as my tongue needs to be free for bending and effects. Hope this helps 👍

What kind of harmonica do you recommend for a total new beginner? If I purchase one I want good quality, even if I’m a new beginner.
I just got some great quality harmonicas which are really affordable. So important to get ones that play easily and sound great. I’ll have them on my website soon 😊

I got a cheap harmonica set for Xmas and have been learning to play from your videos. Only problem I'm having is when playing single notes they don't sound right unless I play everything 1 hole down from what it's meant to be. Is this because the harmonica I'm using isn't quiet in the right tune or is it the most likely option, that I'm missing something important to get the sound right?
Had the same problem bought a hohner and works fine

I have a c-harmonica but it does'nt sound as nice as yours, kind of higher/lighter tone! Maybe I just blow/suck it wrong or something, it just seem like impossible to cover the harmonica with my lips and being able to just take one tone at the time. But when I do 123- 45- 45 - 123 it feels right but the tone is not as deep and feelygood as yours! Guess I just need to keep on practise and practise
Try and keep your airway open like your yawning as this gives the deep full tone. Hope this helps 😊
