Hey everyone. If you need help knowing the boxes or learning more about the pentatonic scale. Watch my Pentatonic Mastery Playlist. It has a LOT of good stuff in there. ruclips.net/video/zb1HVEyy2S4/видео.htmlsi=TdvYEVQN_iZwiHzu
That blocky sound is so relatable. Just tried the 3 string flourish end technique and it was worlds apart. Also watched Brian May talking about soloing and he said that he works out solos in his mind and then tries recreate them because the fingers are prone to repetition when improvising (I’m paraphrasing but you get the idea). Also great advice for soloing. Cheers Stich.
I’m a guitarist and an Aeronautical Engineer who loves aviation. The moment you said that you love plane spotting, I smashed the like and Subscribe button that very second ❤
I love planes... In March 2008 I landed at Heathrow U.K. bound for Manchester. Our flight out was delayed due to a medical emergency. Had to wait almost 5 hours, they assigned another plane. Consequently I watched out the massive windows in the terminal watching the planes land. I could see in the distance plane after plane coming in. This particular day, the brand new A380 arrived at Heathrow on its maiden flight from Singapore. I was totally enjoying myself. I could stand there all day. I must say I was mildly disappointed when they announced our flight to Manchester was ready to board! So I know what saying about watching aircraft come and go. I love your tutorials as I am a player also (always learning) Good Stuff!
Great tips. My soloing sounded like the "knowing the box" section for a long time. What helped me break out of that and actually play the pentatonic musically was listening to songs I liked, with a certain amount of jamming or soloing, listening for the key, and then playing the pentatonic along with the song. This helped a lot more than using backing tracks, which is what I was practicing with before. After a short while of doing this the boxes started connecting and so did the phrasing/melodies, etc., and I started to gain the "ear skills" to kind of copy what I was hearing. I'd also add that learning the major scale through and through super jumped my pentatonic playing as well, just being able to hear and play those "classic" intervals really added to my pentatonic playing as learning the major scale somehow made my playing (and ear) much more melodic. I'll also add that learning the notes on the B string is super important to this kind of playing! This was years ago but it was definitely a few year long hurdle - good topic for a video!
@saurus Typically when I was starting that out I would just try to get the key by ear (or look it up if I had to), then play the pentatonic rather loosely in an improv fashion. As I got better doing this I'd start hearing and replicating some riffs or licks or whatever, then add onto them. Now it's just all whatever, I play my own thing or copy certain parts or act as a 2nd lead if I want - just whatever happens is good. It's a lot of fun IMO and makes me feel connected in a way to songs I love. I'm much more of an improv player than a jukebox so I enjoy the loose jam thing and working on my ear/playing with the song. If I'm trying to mimick exactly it's in a much more transcribing fashion "sit down and write down the notes" experience, which I very rarely do.
Yes! This is exactly how I sound and what I’ve been trying to get past. “I like pizza” was a great, combined with the 3 strings at a time knowing your root notes, pure gold! Thank you
As a jet engine mechanic in the Air Force (C5-M -CF6) this was a pleasant surprise! Love your videos turns out you’re cooler than I thought you already were!
Your presentations are delightfully entertaining and very educational for guitarists (and bassists) looking to expand their musical lexicon. Thank you for your efforts 👍
Dude you just improved my soloing 1000% with this video. Clear concise instruction that makes perfect sense. Thank you. I liked and subscribed. I look forward to learning more.
Been a while since I’ve visited, u always seem to have very good lessons, this one in particular , your the first one. Anyone can be a teacher , to be good one in which a student gets its, is quite different , u fill that 2nd category, Thks. Your extremely relatable and your demeanour makes me want to listen to you.
Enjoyed your presentation on the pentatonic scale and tips to improve soloing. The Jet engine was a real treat - I been flying RC since the late 70s. Cheers
Very nice tip on using 3 lines ! I put that on BBs box for the 1st string set and just having that note on the G string creates varying melodies that breaks out of the penta prison!
Excellent! It feels a bit like an issue about timing (based on the first awkward example of playing "boxy") The beauty of the scales, and Stich Method is that you rarely hit an off note and figuring out where to slide up a couple of frets or slide into a scale really opens it up. When you find a groove, enjoy it. Then find another one.
Great soloing tutorial. Just getting to learn the entire neck over the past year and this adds one more bit to the puzzle. Love the engine. Never knew that sort of model existed. Need to look into that further.
I just bought your Stich coffee mug. Delivery to Germany where I live now. That’s how much I love you (in a hetero way) and what you’re are doing. Rock on! 🤘🏼
We shear very similar passions, I work the engineering department in Montreal Canada. Just the APU itself is something I love to listen starting up, I may get into motor change next year and if so I’ll let you roar up them engines, but no more than 60% throttle. I thrust you Stich.
You are so welcome I'm learning a lot from you and enjoy your teaching very much I've been playing 35 years and I am in a big rut. I'll give more soon thank you.
Am a plane fan too! Retired from IT at Boeing in Everett 2 years ago, am picking up guitars again to (re)learn how to have fun. Brand new 777's take off every day nearby, they are amazing :)
Cool turbine! (I have loved aircraft my entire life! I have been a full-size pilot, and flown giant-scale rc aerobatic aircraft in airshows for years.)
G'day.. thank you. The idea and tuition on getting the pentatonic to sound so much better is really appreciated, I'm about to pick up the guitar and try that out at 7;30 am on Easter Sunday... see if I can wake up the Easter bunnies.. ha ha. Regards the jet engine.. that's so cool. How much thrust does it have...? I was into jets as a kid and still watch the development of the military jets, particularly I look at the newer types and I am amazed at how they perform, with directional thrust to assist in maneuverability. I often look at the commercial jets, and I really just stare and look at how stream lined and they really are a beautiful and amazing conglomeration of engineering. thanks again these are a great help to an old guy trying to learn what he should have 50 years ago ha ha never too late. :)
also, I’m a huge aviation fan, and that jet engine was a really nice surprise, i did not expect that in a guitar tutorial video. please ad more things like that with your video. it is the cherry ontop. thanks
Your content is always great and I dig the new backdrop you've put together. Is it wallpaper? the frames seem to turn the corner. Keep it up! Thanks for your help
3:53 to 4:17 ! Wow. I'm just a "couch stummer" who occasionally rights songs ..... some good, some....'ehh? Now I want to right one JUST to use that solo from 3:53 to 4:17 !! I get most all of my individual song instructions from "Shut Up And Play", here on RUclips (he's phenomenal), and some from Marty Schwartz's channel. This guy will definitely be added into the mix! Thanks for your work.
Wow, wonderful model of jet engine. Very nice. Good for placing in front of engineering class in boss desk of engineering company. Will be very impressive for gift to boss for his desk decoration. Cheers from Indonesia.
I watched a good video on youtube explaining the difference between turbofans and turbojets. Turbo jets were surpassed by turbofans in military and general aviation. The biggest difference in the types of turbofans is the bypass air. Jet liners use high flow bypass that increases the volume of air blowing, essentially they are being propelled by the air. Military fighter jets use low bypass so they are more dependient on the hot gasses for thrust.
Hey there. Wow great channel videos! Also wanted to comment on the RR Trent you have there! Any chance you could do a detailed review video on it please?! It’s awesome!
The thing that I find to be such an interesting thing about us humans is that we all have sometimes surprising interests in things that are just unexplainable. Why is Stich fascinated by jet engines? Why does someone else collect antique razors? These unexplainable attractions I find fascinating and mysterious. I certainly have mine!
Awesome Jet engine Ian... have you thought about getting your private pilots license? you could gjve us a guitar lesson while flying your single engine craft.. :)) keep up the fantastic work.. my playing has improved since i started watching your videos.

Your helping me so much, I play upside down 😂 so I am socking this up
Wow thanks so much for showcasing my Turbo Fan!! I hope you’re enjoying it :)
Great! Electric turbo fan 🙂
Best teacher I have found for myself on RUclips. It just clicks with your help.
Cool Engine too!
I love seeing your happiness when it comes to just you mentioning plane spotting much love from Fl👏🏼

Thanks that lesson was so simple but useful 💡

Before I watched the whole video I read this comment thinking, what's this got to do with a guitar lesson? 😂
I'm after the answer too lol@@clbdyc
That jet engine is so cool, thanks for sharing it with us! And as usual excellent lesson!

When you played along with songs, were you mimicking exactly, as close as possible to the guitar parts with only pentatonics? Or playing more loosely
@saurus Typically when I was starting that out I would just try to get the key by ear (or look it up if I had to), then play the pentatonic rather loosely in an improv fashion. Appreciate the lesson! You have met me right where I am in my guitar journey. Most helpful!
Thanks for being awesome and fun Stich!

Thanks brother I’m working on step one of the caged playlist
So cool.
Big fan of LA Flights youtube channel.

Love yourguitat tips. That jet engine is awesome!
Ian, the lesson I've been waiting for! Thanks so much.
I'm not a plane spotter but I do 'fly' flight simulators every day. Loved to see the Trent, I can appreciate how much joy that's giving you!

Wow. This was dope. Thank you 🙏🏻
Very cool model of the turbo fan engine. I was just reading about the scalloped exhaust the other day to reduce the noise levels.
Great explanation!
Amazing video. Simple and effective. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
I've seen a lot of tips, but these are very helpful. Thanks!

Sooo good. Thanks Stich!!!!!
Great soloing tutorial. Just getting to learn the entire neck over the past year and this adds one more bit to the puzzle. Love the engine. Never knew that sort of model existed. Need to look into that further.
I found this really helpful, thanks. You have an easy to follow style, so I'll happily subscribe. Greetings from Melbourne Australia 🤘🇦🇺

Fantastic video. I sound significantly better with this simple tip. Now you need to get into RC planes. 😉

A photographic backdrop 🤫

Awesome job…you look like JG
That is a great model jet engine.
I felt so called out. thats exactly how they sound lol
Damn I wanted the rest of the plane too.
My two passions are playing guitar and building RC planes and jets from scratch!
Could I mount the thruster on my kayak?
first thought on the plane engine, how would i mount it on the bottom of one of my telecaster's, that thing is so cool
Awesome Jet engine Ian... have you thought about getting your private pilots license? you could gjve us a guitar lesson while flying your single engine craft.. :)) keep up the fantastic work.. my playing has improved since i started watching your videos.
I have thought about it, but still enjoy watching from the ground 😂
