Use the whole diatonic scale primarily for movement!!! Woww...this is like a revelation for me...I've always felt like I needed to use the full scale so as not to sound predictable in the pentatonic but never thought to use the diatonic primarily for quick runs
Can do a follow up video where you combine the next chord in the jam with the holy trinity. Like for example, if your next chord is Cm or B major. I would like to see how you sew it altogether.
I truly love this channel. I've been playing for decades but have learned the most from you. I'll be joining Patreon next time I get paid. Looking forward to the practice lessons! Thank you for all you do! If you're ever in New Orleans, beers on me.
Utter brilliant move of using the G shaped E instead of the E shaped. That REALLY shifted a lot in my understanding of things. You are One HELL of a model American
You always have great lessons. I watch your videos all the time. I do Patreon when I get in stuck or need more material to learn. Thank you for the content.
Your timing for this video, and for me, is perfect. I was just sensing a plateau, and was resolving to step-back from my intensive dig-in in my effort to learn and progress. I now see some exciting-looking rolling foothills on my way up! Thanks!
My goodness after all these years of going nowhere, I now know how to get to where I’ve wanted to go. I’ve had the music equivalent to Paul’s road to Damascus conversion. The guitar and music finally make sense. Thank you so much.
I'm still learning the fretboard with chords and arpeggios. You really are gifted in explaining the next steps for me to take. Merci beaucoup. I was sad to not see black notes on the fretboard when I started out. So I did the next best thing. I put postit notes on my piano keys, and now I have strings on the piano. This helped me to realize the shift around the Eb, E and F scales. Is there a name for this shift? I wanted to call it a warp, but they use that for the B string since it's a third instead of a fourth.
Thank you! That is clever. So for major key / major pentatonic you use G barre shape (pinky is root on low E) for the arpeggio, use Pentatonic major position 5 (at 9th fret), and for diatonic use E's Aeolian shape at its 6th note (fret 9). So for E minor, you would use E minor barre at fret 12 for arpeggio, minor pentatonic shape 1 on fret 12 and E minor (Aeolian shape) also at fret 12? Thanks again sir!
Amazing Lesson, Stich. This was a big one! I would hear Rick from Goose play arpeggios but they sounded so musical and not practice routine-y? This makes a ton of sense
i love your videos man. Can you do some of these like in the context of Blues or Blues rock? Those genres of music have different feels, so phrasing and stuff is different. It is sometimes hard to make that jump to another genre of music. keep them coming. glad you are doing more videos again.
Just shouting out a message of thanks to Stefan and Barry for their inquisitive desire to learn about this. Also thank you to your stitch for performing a good lesson very enjoyable thank you. Jesus Christ loves you.
Hey Stitch, i just watched a double stop video of yours from 7 years ago with Sean Daniels. You still in contact? Your collaboration videos are great value, as is your amazing channel. Love the frameworks you help us understand. Thanks
Honest question. I love this stuff and I’ve become devoted to learning. But, what practical application does this have aside from having fun playing? Just getting together with a few people for a little jam session? Or is it really about just having fun playing guitar?
Always so satisfying when a lesson like this puts together all theses little pieces of knowledge and shows how to connect them properly. Enlightening stuff! :)
It’s kinda misleading to call the C# minor pentatonic an E Major pentatonic. The interval pattern that teaches is not a Major interval pattern. The literal E Major pentatonic is also right there, with the correct Major interval pattern, so why not use it instead of a mislabeling the relative minor scale?
Woah Nelly! Any pentatonic box can be major or minor. That shape is NOT just a minor pentatonic…. Just because the C# is the lowest physical note. That shows me that you don’t know the CAGED pentatonic system. Watch lessons 7 and 8 of my CAGED Primer and it will absolutely open up a new world for you.
I’m not trying to sound rude at all, it’s whoever you learned the pentatonics from that has mislead you. You can also check out my pentatonic debate video. Will offer some clarity.
Use the whole diatonic scale primarily for movement!!! Woww...this is like a revelation for me...I've always felt like I needed to use the full scale so as not to sound predictable in the pentatonic but never thought to use the diatonic primarily for quick runs
I really loved the FOCUS and "simplicity" of this lesson AND the "why"
61 yrs old. Playing since I was 9. Got "some learnin to do". Thanks
Ian, one of the best lessons you or anyone has ever done. Love it, thanks.
Awesome to hear! Please share this somewhere, I really believe in this lesson

All this time, and you still come up with brilliant new lessons. You have improved my playing so much Ian, thank you.
Dude, there are a lot of guitar Gurus out there on the interweb, but you're the best. I appreciate it. Sincerely.

Ever get to a point when you plateau and can't be bothered playing anymore? Find one of this guys videos and be inspired.
Combining these 3 and including graphics really helped me to internalize this for once and for all. Great lesson, thanks!
A lot of wisdom crammed into one lesson. Much appreciated!
This is great stuff Ian. Thank you. When and why. Now I just need to practice the where!
I’m an intermediate bassist and greatly enjoyed this 🙏
you should do a arpeggios/pentatonic/diatonic, path way on guitar soloing lesson. love the videos.
Really solid lesson man... I've been looking for something like this for while, many thanks!

Stich your overall SOUND is so much better! It was good before. Now it’s AWESOME ‼️🎸💻
Amazing Lesson, Stich. This was a big one!
I would hear Rick from Goose play arpeggios but they sounded so musical and not practice routine-y? This makes a ton of sense
Thank you, very helpful 🙏
Enjoyed

Stich has a Blues Primer Playlist link posted in the description of the video.
great lesson brada!
Thanks Stefan and Barry!!
That's cool - bonding, moving, rambling to another area. Nice structure. Warmly communicated
Master Stitch 🙏
This is so helpful. Thank you!
So glad you enjoyed it!
Well, when you say it like that, it starts making sense. Thank you!
Awesome to hear! Glad you liked it.

Crucial thanks Ian 🤙🙏🎸
Just shouting out a message of thanks to Stefan and Barry for their inquisitive desire to learn about this. Also thank you to your stitch for performing a good lesson very enjoyable thank you. Jesus Christ loves you.
Great lesson, spend time applying this to all 5 positions and you'll be Whistlin' Dixie!!
You´re the man, Stitch
Random question, but do you know where I can find wall treatments like the one in your video! They look amazing!
Hey Stitch, i just watched a double stop video of yours from 7 years ago with Sean Daniels. You still in contact? Your collaboration videos are great value, as is your amazing channel. Love the frameworks you help us understand. Thanks
Best formula so far, trinity of guitar leads
Love it🎉
This is too short! Best lesson ever!!
Thanks ben and stefan

It’s about improvisation and making music that moves and says something. It’s for the conversation of music
Thanks a ton for the revelation.
Thank you

I’m joining Patreon!! Thank you 🙏
Hell yeah! Thanks
Brother,
Always great content. Thank for your passion to teach.
I have questions for you, can we talk offline?
The Grateful Stich 2024‼️🎸
Yes.
Why didn't somebody tell me this along time ago SMH. Thank you so much Stitch 🙂
You've definitely whet my whistle...
The cops said my Motif was love.....
Shiii...son I built my chops on noodles
Cool
Awesome! But so much is about rhythm and when you start and end phrases.
Stich to 1M subs!
Let’s make that happen!😂👍
You're sounding very Duane Allmany today.
Dicky Betts more like
@@brettsbluesguitar3892 I can't argue that. There was no slide!
Just a heads up, you could probably make an ASMR channel
How so?😳
Is this some Jedi mind trick?
Thanks for another AH-HA moment in my guitar exploration
