As a 73-years young harmonica newbie I find it impossible to not enjoy music and have fun while learning from Mr. Smith. His Play and Blow Away course is just as wonderful and worth many times the cost. I'm not a musician and have no sense of rhythm, but find if I do the work and keep practicing with patience - even an old geezer like me can learn and enjoy the heck out of it. Thanks Juzzie. You are a life altering human being.

This is the most valuable lesson I have had on learning to play Harmonica. Thanks so much Juzzie. Truly appreciate your patience and the way you demonstrate every step
This man is a legend. I’m a guitar player trying to learn harmonica, and after watching this guy a few times,he’s already helped me get over a couple of mental blocks, where you get through it and gain a bit of knowledge and progress. He’s a phenomenal player, but a patient teacher who just helps develop small pieces of understanding, slowly and methodically. Thanks !!!!!!
I'm 79 years old and have birthing problem, so I thought learing the harmonica would help me to learn to control my birthing and I found you, I feel lucky, you showed me how to try to control my birthing and learn something fun at the same time. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
There is no one with your level of explanation. I saw a lot of videos before. You are the best. Now I am totally understand how to do this. I cannot explain my mistakes before, so I cannot fix it. But now I see the difference. Thank you!

I just wanted to say how great the finger and thumb are for blow and draw. To get the notes in my head, I now walk around the house whistling the tune I'm practicing with a point and thumb as I whistle out and in. Fantastic and really helpful, although its not so popular with the wife 😂
Hi Juzzie, I have watched this video a couple of time. It is one of the best videos on getting a single note, air moving in and out on one hole. I am going to be honest I can get a single note by puckering and tongue blocking. It is the moving about using these two embouchures where I have trouble. When I first started I found that if I slide my tongue on the bottom plate I could get a single note and know where I was at on the harmonica. I learned that I was U blocking. There is not much information on U blocking and most of what you find is not very nice. This was 13 or 14 years ago. I still play U blocking but I have learned to change from one embouchure to another. That has been very helpful. I just wanted to be honest by posting this. It might be helpful to someone out there like me that has trouble finding their way around on the harmonica. Again this is a great video. Very helpful indeed. Thank you
Hi, Randomly, I found your video on youtube 2 months back , and I search back my childhood favourite musical instrument. It was rusted. I bought new one and start playing. Thanks to you, I started living my musical life back.😊
Very effective authentic way of teaching: words explained by actions demonstrations. You’re a gift to your students funny entertaining, the meaning of kissing the harmonica somewhat passionately will give sounds requested is true. Salute for helping struggling student.

Imma try your tips to see if i can regulate the air pressure. 😅 Maybe thats my problem. Thanks a lot man. Appreciate your patience and willing to teach. 🤝
I’ve bought so many harmonicas, even a whole set with the different keys. Like I know what harmonica to use with which song. I’m determined to do it this time and I enjoy your videos and teaching so I’ll be watching your videos. I’ve been a guitar player and singer most of my life, there’s a lot of guitar players around but I don’t know anyone who can play harmonica at all. Not even bad ones. Thanks for the videos.
Great explanation about the breathing. The first time I attempted harmonica, breathing wasn't really taught while it seems like many say its easy to play until you ask them to play single notes.
My man, you pull me trough my frustrations. I play harmonica for 6months and so far I am able to play 2 basic child songs. But your videos make me pick the harmonica up and try again every day.
Watched a couple vids the other day and wanted to grab my harmonica and learn me up some techniques. Couldn't find it anywhere, been a while since I tried learning. Did my head in but thought bugger it I'll get a new one, And I did just that the following day. Got a C Lee Oskar. So now going through and tryna learn me how to play. I find your teaching methods relaxing, Informally informative. Thanks Juzzie I'll keep at it mate cheers.
Was recommended to take a look at this session by a 2 year player- wish I'd seen it earlier in my learning journey (3months) nicely presented, well explained and paced very well. Thank you! I learned one point, in particular, that I'd not thought about before that's pretty logical and basic, and that's to ALWAYS hold the harp in the left hand the same way, not be tempted even for lazy practice to just lightly hold it between fingers - now I completely get it that (in my case) my first finger laying along the top of the harp, with the left side in the crook of my palm where the thumb and first finger join - means that my knuckle in the middle of my finger and the crease in my skin underneath is directly above hole 4, so it's the marker for my brain and lips to coordinate as to where the 4th hole is. A kind of 'home' position. Simple but brilliant - others may have shorter or longer fingers but find their own home point. One thing I'd like you to cover (and I will search your videos in the hope it's there), is a little more about how to get the mouth/tongue right for playing single notes. I've seen videos emphasising the need to get one's lips round the harp so that the wet inside of the lips is pressing the metal - but that means having a wide embouchure - and that's contrary to the advice to play single notes with the tight pursing of the lips into an 'kiss' resting over the hole. SO help with how to get it absolutely right every time without leaking air into adjacent holes (but without tongue blocking, per se). Good stuff Juzzie.
THANK YOU! I am up to Lesson 12 on PP&BA (sliding single notes). This is helpful extra lesson. Thanks again. You are awesome, funny boy, and a great teacher.
Damit Juzzie. Look what you did. You made me buy a harmonica and now I am having fun. 😁 I have wanted to try harmonica for a long time. I watched couple of your videos and decided to give it a try. Your videos have been really helpful. I just wish you would have uploaded this video earlier. I spent last five weeks wondering why in the world can't I draw hole two (G-note). Oh.. btw... One funny thing. In one video you talked about bending. No matter how much I tried. I could not bend hole four draw. Then just for giggles I tried it on hole one and it worked instantly. It was easier for me to practice it first on hole one and then move up to hole four. And now sometimes (if I am lucky) hole four bends don't sound like a grizzly bear getting run over by a train. 😅
The 2nd tip was it for me. Im currently trying to play country roads for our priest that is sadly leaving (Family, ..) And he loves that song and i need to play to single notes for it and this really helped me and i can now finally play them. Now i need to try to bend 😂
Picking up my harmonica after trying to learn during covid and I think Juzzie is speaking my language good descriptions on how and what your supposed to do!
I sit watching these vids buddy and wonder if I had music lessons at school would I play harp better, all these years later ! Then I think, it’s not just the information, that’s obviously important, it’s the teacher. What I needed seventy odd years ago was a teacher not an instructor ! Good on ya buddy, your method is triffic. If only I hadn’t and continue to suffer from sinus problems I to would be able to play longer, maybe not better but for sure for longer 😂
wow this chapter teaches me most of the things like breathing pattern, single note exercise. thank you for sharing this knowledge with us.. Any book do you recommend for me for harmonica?
For people with smaller hands you can make the harp cup by bending your right hand backwards. (Hold your hand like you are holding it up to stop someone, then rotate it so it's under your harmonica. Your thumbs will wind up pointing the same direction. Then just curl the fingers on your right hand over the end of the harmonica.

Hey Juzzie, great lesson 🙏. I’m loving the journey learning harmonic & CBG. Could you create some more beginners lessons for CBG ? They are awesome instruments that I’m on a mission to learn 🤙
Allways wondered how players went straight to hole 4. Got it. My problem is nailing the flat 3rd of the blues scale.Semitone bend , 3 draw. Important note. Thanks.
Thanks for this clear & concise lesson! I find that I struggle to stay relaxed as I practice; either I have a death grip on the harp, my throat is tight, or I'm flexing my entire face trying to pucker enough. It's exhausting! When I focus on staying relaxed, I lose track of where I am on the harp. Any suggestions, or is it the kind of thing that will resolve itself as I practice more? Thanks kindly!
With practice you get more relaxed. I recommend just practice short amounts like 5min. whistling or humming during the day is great for muscle strength and feeling relaxed. Just remember it gets easier so just have fun learning slowly 😊
If you play gentle they will last years. Different quality usually comes with a price tag. I linked the one I’m playing in description. I also have great harmonicas arriving soon which are much more affordable. Hope this helps 🎶
Great video! It helped me a lot. One question, with the breathing through the nose exercise, do you keep on blowing when switching holes or do you stop for a milisecond, switch and start blowing again?
Thank you Juzzie, you are so much fun to learn from! Not here for simpathy, trust me. Im a 60yr old T3 paraplegic and a newbe. First time ever on the harp, but competitive which put me in the chair in the begining, so quittings not an option! I know playing will help my breathing issues period, but Im struggling with your breathing technique or not understanding fully. Am I hearing that as I suck, Im supposed to be letting air out of my nostrils? Fyi, with my paralysis my lung capacity is only around 60%, which I know ism going to do me any favors, but is there anything you can recommend for me to do to compensate for my circumstances? Reguardless of were this takes me, thank you from the bottom of my heart for inspiring me to keep learnig to play those COOL LICKS...Peace!
Yuzzie, I have the honer special 20 key of c to learn from you . I've been following your teaching. It's great . What is your opinion of the rocket harmonica key of c also for beginner? Thanks ,
What about "tipping the harmonica down" while playing for, better single note acquisition? (Tip the back of the harmonica up towards nose, so that the front goes down towards chin- it seems to create a smaller air push air pull hole)? Is that a bad technique?
Hi Juzzie, new harmonica player here and I love your videos. Is your press play and blow away course still for sale? Is there an updated version? I'm not even sure that I know what to do with mp3 format
Thank you for the easy-to-follow lesson! Do you have any tips for 3 blow/draw specifically? No issues with 2, but 3 is just air for me, there is basically no note there. Wasn't an issue before, but I put the harmonica down for a few weeks when I got busy with school and now the 3 hole is completely gone for me. (So frustrating!)
Last time I gave my harmonica to my cousins. I miss it but my mercy and compassion for my cousins are heavier. So yeah, I want them to be happy because they are not rich in material things. At least I gave them something valuable. Since they are young, they can explore the essence of harmonica. Hope they appreciate what I did to them. Although I need my harmonica at some point. But, for me, I'm so blessed for being a talented musician. And that's enough for me.
I'm getting a terrible high-pitched screetch on my hole 8 draw instead of a nice clean note. I'm new to harmonica playing. Do you think it's the instrument or my technique that's the problem. I've tried varying my breathing but can't get a good tone. Suggestions?
Juzzie i made my own h holder. But my question is i play piano, guitar ,🎻, bass guitar. And harmonica. And drums im a head case of depression but music helps i wanted to know what chords are you playing with the harmonica and i notice im getting diZZY PLAYING IS THAT BAD.
Excellent lesson. Many thanks. Although I was afraid that when I was trying to do the sucking part of the exercise I would end up like those characters in the Mary Poppins movie.... floating on the ceiling!

If you play gentle they will last years. Different quality usually comes with a price tag. I linked the one I’m playing in description. I also have great harmonicas arriving soon which are much more affordable. Hope this helps 🎶
@@JuzzieSmithRUclips Thank you, this month I'm short the Austria creates itself just off! Next month I order from you!
thank you ❤so much
มันเจ๋งมากเลยครับ
Great! Tnx!
Nice
Great video! It helped me a lot. One question, with the breathing through the nose exercise, do you keep on blowing when switching holes or do you stop for a milisecond, switch and start blowing again?
Keep blowing 😊
Thanks 😎👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks ,
I’m not sure about these harmonicas. I think the rocket is supposed to be good 👍
@@JuzzieSmithRUclips thanks , i'll tune in later
What about "tipping the harmonica down" while playing for, better single note acquisition? (Tip the back of the harmonica up towards nose, so that the front goes down towards chin- it seems to create a smaller air push air pull hole)? Is that a bad technique?
That’s a good technique and helps with bending 👍
Hi Juzzie, new harmonica player here and I love your videos. Is your press play and blow away course still for sale? Is there an updated version? I'm not even sure that I know what to do with mp3 format
Thanks. Yeah the course is still available just drop the file onto your computer desktop and your ready to go 👍
@@JuzzieSmithRUclips will it work on an ipad?
Greetings from Germany Peter....
Tnx Sooooo much!📯🌈
Could you please tell us the name of the backing track machine that you're using?
Thank you for the easy-to-follow lesson! Do you have any tips for 3 blow/draw specifically? No issues with 2, but 3 is just air for me, there is basically no note there. Wasn't an issue before, but I put the harmonica down for a few weeks when I got busy with school and now the 3 hole is completely gone for me. (So frustrating!)
Maybe open your harmonica as might be a hair or fluff stuck in the reed. Hope this works 😊
Can you pat yourself on the back some more? 😂

Chill out mate it's only a harmonica, not like you've gave a kidney 🙄
@@Richard-dn1tjright a hohner special 20 cost as much as a dinner date lol
Oof, I’d hate to see the speech he gives after holding the door for someone
I'm getting a terrible high-pitched screetch on my hole 8 draw instead of a nice clean note. I'm new to harmonica playing. Do you think it's the instrument or my technique that's the problem. I've tried varying my breathing but can't get a good tone. Suggestions?
Try inhaling air through nose at same time. This give a relaxed tone.
I was already a whistler, guess that paid off cause I seem to be pretty good at hitting the single notes already
Awesome, have fun!
I will play like you bro... I just need 10 year... lol. Cheers from Argentina.

Excellent lesson. Many thanks.
Although I was afraid that when I was trying to do the sucking part of the exercise I would end up like those characters in the Mary Poppins movie.... floating on the ceiling!
Haha. It gets easier 😁
It really is an amazing exercise “learning how to use your nose.” 😂😂😂 Thanks Chief!!
