My husband... Where do I start. Being retired, he's been trying to find something to do to fill his hours of "him time". God save us all, he's found music. He's tried trumpet. That found it's way into the trash one day. He bought a violin that "fell behind a cabinet and is currently still "missing". Then he some friends gave him their Marlboro codes and he got a harmonica through the mail las week... I nearly drove it up his ass with my foot last week until I came across this tutorial. I sat him down in front of the laptop with that horrible noise maker of his. Well, it's a week later now. He's no maestro, but then again, his playing is far better than something that sounds like a cat with it's nuts in a vice, so thank you very much for the video! His playing sounds allot better and he continues to improve daily. Good job! :)
I'm a guitar player playing fingerpicking blues guitar for awhile, I just got a harp I gave a friend back over a year ago since they didn't play it an now that it's back in my hands an I've already had a interest in playing an messed around on before ima trust you an I feel you are right because so far he's the only one I've learned something from an I'm getting the hang of it. I wanna be chillin on a bench somewhere like him
Sitting here with a c-key harmonica from the 80’s laughing my ass off as you tell me that it’s going to change my life, but with all the passion ya got I can’t help but believe ya. Great video lol
You just wait! Or just sit on a park bench and noodle for a while. You will be surprised by the people who pause and make conversation. Everybody has a grandpa or uncle who used to play.

Thank you for the assist here. You are a fantastic teacher. It would thrill my dad to no end to see me learn this. Thank you
Adam, I have had my blues harp for 25 years and played it briefly at the start. Coincidentally, it is a Hohner in 'C'. I hung.on to it because I knew one day I would pick it up again. Now, at the age of 61, you have inspired me to get started. Thanks for starting me on this journey.
Ha your comment made me chuckle. Bought my hohner C harp in 88. Then about 4 or 5 other keys. And played all of them rarely and badly off and on for a while an gave up. Then realized that youtube could probably provide the teacher I always wished I had!
The best sign of a great music teacher, is when the person cant help but have a good time while teaching you. I picked up most of what he was teaching before the video was over just playing along, if this rate continues ill be able to make believe I’m an actual musician in no time 😂 😂
Thanks for that discerning comment! I won't weigh in on whether I'm a great teacher, but I'll agree that I'm having fun while sharing knowledge. Hopefully some of that fun is contagious.

I happened on your channel, because my Granddaughters have been playing around with a harmonica someone gave them. They were so excited and enthused after watching your lesson. Thank you so much. My dad could play honky tonk on the harmonica and piano. He taught himself, couldn't read music but had an ear for it.. He was a country boy brought up on a farm in Cleburne Texas. Listening to you brought back memories of my dad playing his harmonica 😊

I had the extreme pleasure of mixing the audio for Satan and Adam in Kenora Ontario, Canada many years ago at the now defunct "Elk's Hall". Man what a great raucous night that was. Those two guys tore up the stage. It was unforgettable. Thank you Adam for sharing your gift with us. Cheers from Canada!

I just watched "Satan and Adam". Thank you. One of the biggest troubles in life, in my mind, is that one can never hear it all.... Dear Mr. Adam. I just happened across this video. I listened to you and Mr. Satan in newyork and bought a CD off you guys. Then you came to NEw Brunswick, NJ for a small gig and I was able to see you guys there too. I think this was back in late 1990's. I now live in Japan. Someone around the corner was trying to figure out blues harp. I just did a search and your video popped up. Then I realized who you were. Thank you or sharing everything. I wish you and everyone else the best.
It's 2 in the morning, and I can't really bring out my harmonica to play along, but boy am I having a relaxing time listening to your while I try to sleep. This is just so soothing... I love it!
I just ordered in the note of C can't wait to get my harmonica been a drummer and a keyboard that's all my life now I'm ready for the h a r p Blues thank you my friend love your video
Hey Mr Gussow. I've just been going around thanking everyone who has helped me develop my style. I've been watching videos nonstop. Then I finally shut it all off and it all just clicked and came together. Starting to draw a crowd in this town when I get out of the woodshed. Thanks again!
I've had a harmonica for years and always wanted to play it but couldn't find that 'thing' to enable me. I just found your videos and this single lesson has enabled me to understand and begin to play my harmonica tunefully and purposefully making wonderful bluesy sounds that I have chased down for years. Thank you so much for posting these lessons you have opened a new avenue for my music.
Absolute beginner here! Got one for my birthday yesterday. My grandmother picked up a huge upright bass about 15 years ago when she turned 60... never played a musical note in her life. Now she plays in two bluegrass bands and does shows every weekend. Anyways, I'm excited to annoy my neighbors with my new toy! Thanks for all the lessons I'll be watching ❤
Thank for this. I honestly just want to play some music from “Cowboy Bebop” just for myself. I got a harmonica as a gift but it has no letters or numbers. I did learn from this video and have a direction and how to go from here. Thank you
I'm 3 weeks in. Playing twice a day, driving to and from work. I'm taking it slow, but really loving it. This vid and your others has been such a help. Thank you. 🇬🇧
Hey Brotha, With all these comments, I know you won't even see this... but I just have to say, I watched this video and went straight to the music store and bought a Horner Special 20 in C. Then I bought your lesson package... That was yesterday... I'm now on day 1 of your course and I can't believe I'm already making progress. This is such a gift and I'm so inspired. Thank you Brotha. I'm a veteran of 2 wars... this is medicine for the soul and I'm so grateful. You put this all together as a business because it's your passion. Now it's mine too... Keep rockin in the free world🤙
I had to just get out here and leave a comment! Bought my eight year old daughter her first harmonica, and we are using this as our beginning video. Not only is he so relatable but he’s also funny! So fun and enjoyable. THANK YOU!
Damn man, this is the best musical related video I've ever watched on RUclips. I'm laughing and enjoying it to the max. It's so simple but damn it's great.
You are one hell of a teacher. Probably 20 mins in with pauses and I'm doing that groove and absorbing the relationship between a simple shift of the harmonica between my lips and drawing and blowing.
Bought myself a harmonica for Christmas this year. It arrived today and this is the first video I watched and played along to. Thank you for making the video and you're welcome for showing up 😁
As a kid I had a harmonica, didn't even know you can suck in on it. 23 now, found my mother's The American Ace (from white I've seen built in the fifties and love the sound) she used as a kid with a single dog bite out of it. Played it as a joke to give my team in counter strike a little moral boost when we lost. Some random people I played with thought I was messing around with a sound board (I have no idea what I'm doing) and loved it. After that I really want my first instrument I learn to be it.
I am a 2 day beginner. I am 74 yr young beginner. I ordered a 24 hole C. Remember sitting playing in Grandma's Tin button box. Never forgot this, was looking up at her and Grandpa's pic and decided to order one. Having a blast on it. Easy to play.
Thanks a lot for this lesson adam! In 15 minutes you gave me some tools in order to get a real kick out of playing the harp! Not many people are able to do that online but you are very straightforward and clear on what you try to teach!
So I got my harmonica and it was a C. I was excited... I did what you said to do and when you went crazy I kept doing it and it sounded like we were in a duet I've never thought I'd have it inside me .. you said it or your video that you were going to unlock something inside Many of us... Wow 😳 I'm actually proud of myself.. and thankful for you
So excited!!! Absolute beginner here, grateful for this brilliant introduction to a wonderfully expressive little instrument. Gives back everything you give to it, and more.
Just caught me! After playing trombone from elementary school - high school (shout-out class of 2012) I found myself missing being in a jazz band. Now I found a new instrument to learn and for once I get to carry the melody not just support it with a random solo. Thank you for posting this video!
Guys. I saw that film a couple of years ago, and I loved it. And now I got a harmonica and searched for 12 bar blues on harmonica. I got the silent girl first, and now this. And as I'm watching and following, I thought, don't I know this guy? :D it's THAT GUY.... "Adam"... awesome! Much gratitude in mr Gussow's general direction X
Thank you for the video i recently lost my grandfather and he played i recieved both his harmonica i work security and find i have lots of spare time alone and decided i would like to put lots of time to learn this amazing instrument
Appreciate you Adam taking the time to share with us others that have a drive and desire to learn harp.I’m no musician but got the drive and can play guitar and drums a lil. When that guy is playing his guitar at the campfire be nice to pull out the harp and play along. Thanks again.
I have had my Hohner C for quite a long time. I am very good at it. I can play many notes all at the same time! I also practice while I am driving. I go about 60mph and hold it out the window; people think I am waving, but the harp sounds amazing. With the help of this tutorial, I may even be able to play actual harmonic notes and make identifiable music. Very instrumental (no pun) and easy to follow. Thank you for keeping it fun, simple, and learnable.
Adam, I am not a beginner. But I am subscribed to your channel. When this came up, I decided to watch. Perhaps get some good reminders of the basics. I love the humor in this one, man! After the hell of a year we've all had, the good chuckle was needed.
You´re an inspiration, Adam; thanks a lot for doing those videos. Your lessons are so much more fun than all those dry, theoretical, not funny other “lessons”. This is not getting boring!
Sir! I remember you were sitting in your car in NYC playing harmonica in the morning. I was so astonished by it and remembered that moment. I just bought a harmonica on Amazon this week because I finally wanted to play an instrument. I come to find this video of you and now I’m getting that cool lesson that I wanted when I first encountered you that day. Thank you.
Thank you for you're time and commitment to music. I play guitar piano and drums, just watching you're videos I can easily say You are a great teacher. Learning an instrument is always difficult at first but you make it more fun which in turn makes it easier
Man I just love how happy and encouraging you are. You have the best videos around. Harp has always been an interest of mine and I just picked one up finally. Can't wait to see where this journey leads with the help of your videos and lessons. You're an inspiration to all of us harp newcomers.
My aunt and uncle both passed away last year. I found an old 66 Opera harmonica in one of the boxes of stuff my cousin gave me when she cleaned out their place. I'm going to a bit of a rough patch now, and I might have a lot of time on my hands. I looked up how to play... This was the first video I found, so I think I'm going to give it a shot. Thank you!
I love how he shows off the cool things he can do scattered throughout the tips 😂 I asked for a harmonica for my birthday (which is this Friday) it will be my second instrument (because I really want to play like Neil young) so excited to start learning!!!
@@eve8082 Lol, it's normal at the beginning I bet. At least now you can use it to stress him up all time :)) Thanks for the input. Good luck learning ! Cheers !
Sitting down and just trying to hit random little single notes is really really good practice I've come to find. I start slow then slowly speed up every so often.
Was already subscribed to you as a newer harp player, but this video is without a doubt the best "first" lesson of any instrument I've ever learned. Teach the student just enough to get them feeling music and having some fun, without overwhelming them. Also, students now probably have on average much lower attention span vs 30 yrs ago, and this fits that very well. Looking forward to this adventure!
You are a wonderful teacher. I’ve played for years, but didn’t know or learn any of these important techniques. Thank you so much for doing this. I just may actually get good at it one day soon.
I have absolutely no idea how this ended up on my 'recommended' feed but I was thoroughly engrossed for the full 16 mins. Wish I had teachers like Adam when I was at school - may have paid more attention in class!
I’m a guitar player and a singer and then trying to teach myself harp to no avail, watched a few RUclips videos helped a little bit then I came across this video…. YOU THE MAN! Feel more comfortable with the harp after this one video then I have the entire time, so thank you and I’ll be watching more
Monica last 6-7 years by watching this couple on RUclips I love it it's got a different style him and his wife play all kinds of good songs and it's it's different I love the sound of the harmonica playing at that the other way but I've always wanted to learn the blues and jazz cuz I like that on the drums and myself that on the drums hundred of lessons on RUclips I think you were supposed to best I picked it up just by listening everywhere you said and doing exactly what you said and I got to tell you thank you so very much and I hope 50 years from now my great-grandchildren will be watching your video and they will learn to
It's 2022 and I hope you're still with us Adam because I want you to know that I really enjoyed your video. I'm 47 and you've inspired me to go out and buy a Seydel Harmonica Blues 1847 Classic C with maple wood stainless steel - to pick up where I left off at the age of 14. I think you'll approve - even though you appear to be a Hohner man at heart! Best wishes from Newport, South Wales, UK.
That was great man. I've been playing guitar for 32 years, many of those on the road in the early days, but now I'm pretty much working from home and I always wanted to get into the harp. You had me getting a single note and bending and grooving right away, much love 😎❤💙💖....looking forward to my harp journey from here.
I realize this is a few years old, but I love this approach. I am no musician by any sense of the word. I love music though, especially blues. I love the sound of a harmonica. I just bought a Fender Blues Deluxe. This is literally the first video I watched, and I subscribed halfway through. Thank you for not overcomplicating it.
I ordered my first harmonica today lee oskar major Diatonic C. Newer play any instrument but want to learn something new. So I sub your channel and start the learning.
I’ve owned a Harmonica in C for 25 years. Never used it. Stumbled across this video in bed at 11.10pm and I’ve dug it out and playing said harmonica and totally inspired!
This is a brilliant intro. Always wanted to learn the harmonica. Had a go before so this has re-inthused me. Getting my c Marine Band out....and going to the car!
I played a trumpet in the 5th grade, I liked it and my teacher, Mr. Kiettleman, thought I was pretty good. I was young and didn't realize what a treasure I had, so I never played it again. But some someday I'll get another 1 and see where it takes me. But I recently got myself a Harp, my granddaughters didn't come yet because it's being engraved. But I must say, thanks for the video. Our harps are in the key of "C," and I think I hit that note thanks to you. It sounds great to me.
Me and the lady decided we should get a harmonica, and came across this video! Perfect video to watch to confirm our decision! Off to music store !!! Thank you sir !
personally, I'm hoping this becomes a series that takes us from here to the ability to create our own "gussied up" version! As a newer player who can do single notes and can somewhat bend, I am glsd I found your channel. Thanks for thinking about us beginners!!!
Sir....you definitely unlocked something..... I've had my marine band C in an box.... time to take it out and give it a major try again!!!! Thanks again!!!!
The duck lips thing is the absolute biggest tip ever. It makes playing single notes so much easier. Wow. Mind blown. Learning harp is so hard because how can you see what someone is doing INSIDE THEIR MOUTH!?
Hi Adam, about two weeks ago, I got a Lee Oskar C Harp. Finally, I’ve got Ole Susanna down and can now play it very well. From playing around with the song, I now know how to give that song a crying sound…. I’ve converted Ole Susanna into a blues type song on Harmonica. From doing nothing but playing around with how I play the song. I’m hooked on Harmonica for life…: Thanks! 😎
Holy sh*t - I got this harmonica for Christmas and I found your lesson not knowing that you are "Adam" from "Satan and Adam". I super excited that you are my teacher! Thanks for posting the lesson.

I love it!
I don't even play harmonica (I'm a drummer) I just love watching a good player. You're amazing! That shirt is on point too boss. Best wishes.
Excellent! I love to hear that.
Thank you
That is my reason to bud
Lmao been rewatching it and I have had a harmonica for years that I had never tried to learn so I figured why not learn it!
For me it was the Travelers song from Outer Wilds
Holy crap it's my people Lmao
Cowboy Bebop inspired me to get a harmonica and the first song I learned was Travellers from Outer Wilds.
I'm 3 weeks in. Playing twice a day, driving to and from work. I'm taking it slow, but really loving it. This vid and your others has been such a help. Thank you. 🇬🇧
I looooove this. Got me so excited being able to repeat this simple rhythm. Very nice to practice the fundamentals.
I just want you to know ive been trying to learn how to bend a note for 6 months and i couldnt grasp it until i watched this video! Finally got it!!!
Just got my first Harmonica yesterday and I can't wait to one day be able to play like this. Practice makes perfect, as the old saying goes!
NOBODY has started (and explained) the absolute beginning like you! Thank you!
Keep rockin in the free world🤙
Thank you so much for creating this. I had a blast and made bluesy sounding riffs on the harp right away. Solid building block skills to know.
I had to just get out here and leave a comment! Bought my eight year old daughter her first harmonica, and we are using this as our beginning video. Not only is he so relatable but he’s also funny! So fun and enjoyable. THANK YOU!
Excellent! I'm glad that my video was there when you went looking.
When you showed the F key harmonica and played that little riff on it I felt it through my entire body.
Damn man, this is the best musical related video I've ever watched on RUclips. I'm laughing and enjoying it to the max. It's so simple but damn it's great.
Thanks! That's extremely generous praise and I appreciate it.
You are one hell of a teacher. Probably 20 mins in with pauses and I'm doing that groove and absorbing the relationship between a simple shift of the harmonica between my lips and drawing and blowing.
Adam, thanks for sharing your enthusiasm and beautiful music with harmonica, you're a joy and inspiration to us all, God Bless!
I was bought a Horner C when I was 14, don’t think I’ve touched it in 30 years. It’s in a box somewhere, you’ve made we want to dig it out.
Bought myself a harmonica for Christmas this year. It arrived today and this is the first video I watched and played along to. Thank you for making the video and you're welcome for showing up 😁
I ordered mine for Christmas too. It's in transit arriving tomorrow. Too stoked, hence I am here!
Adam, thanks for keeping the light on this past 2020.
Am nearly 70 and you have given me hope I can play the Harmonica.
Yep, that guy. That documentary definitely put the word out. ;)
Thank you for the video i recently lost my grandfather and he played i recieved both his harmonica i work security and find i have lots of spare time alone and decided i would like to put lots of time to learn this amazing instrument
Did you ever think how much this lesson could benefit those suffering from COPD ?, a brilliant lesson.
I stumbled across this video and ordered my first harmonica today to play at work during my downtime. Thank you sir!
Beginning I learned most from Adam I kept playing because he made it fun learning.. I learned most from Adam.. mahalo
Any news? You got it? Gooing well learning ? Just curious as I ordered one today. I just to get it :D
@@marianoliver8285 my boyfriend got me one! I SUCK so far, but im trying
@@eve8082 Lol, it's normal at the beginning I bet. At least now you can use it to stress him up all time :))
Thanks for the input.

2023- i went to 5 below yesterday and bought a harmonica! Great lesson!
2022 and going strong. Day one for a 51 year old. Thank you!
I’m a guitar player and a singer and then trying to teach myself harp to no avail, watched a few RUclips videos helped a little bit then I came across this video….
YOU THE MAN! Feel more comfortable with the harp after this one video then I have the entire time, so thank you and I’ll be watching more
Excellent!
That's the type of feeling lessons that I was looking for. Thank you, Sir!
Monica last 6-7 years by watching this couple on RUclips I love it it's got a different style him and his wife play all kinds of good songs and it's it's different I love the sound of the harmonica playing at that the other way but I've always wanted to learn the blues and jazz cuz I like that on the drums and myself that on the drums hundred of lessons on RUclips I think you were supposed to best I picked it up just by listening everywhere you said and doing exactly what you said and I got to tell you thank you so very much and I hope 50 years from now my great-grandchildren will be watching your video and they will learn to
I can't keep up with most of your quick lessons, so thank you for a easy one.
Nothing wrong with Seydel. Get in touch with Ben Bouman and get one of his customized Seydels and you'll be set. Tell him I sent you.
Sir, where is day 2? You're fantastic and I need more, please!
OK Gussow, you got me hooked. I've been a blues fan since before there was rock and roll. At 84 years old, I'm willing to give a go. Thanks.
@Abe Garfield and one reason why I picked oskar is that they have repair parts.
@@Sbacek86 You should've gotten a special 20s
@@BzBlade I flip a coin about those two and Oscar wins, 😄
I’ve owned a Harmonica in C for 25 years. Never used it. Stumbled across this video in bed at 11.10pm and I’ve dug it out and playing said harmonica and totally inspired!
Excellent! I'm always happy to hear stories like this.
It sounds great to me.
got one for christmas this is perfect thank you!
Just saw the film on Netflix! Love Satan and Adam! I had a huge smile on my face the entire time! Thank you!!!!!!!
Sir....you definitely unlocked something..... I've had my marine band C in an box.... time to take it out and give it a major try again!!!! Thanks again!!!!
maybe give it a minor try as well?
The duck lips thing is the absolute biggest tip ever. It makes playing single notes so much easier. Wow. Mind blown. Learning harp is so hard because how can you see what someone is doing INSIDE THEIR MOUTH!?
You hit the nail on the head 😂 got a harmonica for Xmas, time to get learning! Thanks for the lesson 🙌
I'm that second example who bought one for myself lol
Hi Adam, about two weeks ago, I got a Lee Oskar C Harp.
Finally, I’ve got Ole Susanna down and can now play it very well. From playing around with the song, I now know how to give that song a crying sound…. I’ve converted Ole Susanna into a blues type song on Harmonica. From doing nothing but playing around with how I play the song.
I’m hooked on Harmonica for life…: Thanks! 😎
I started play because of you.😁im getting better an better cause of these lessons!
Holy sh*t - I got this harmonica for Christmas and I found your lesson not knowing that you are "Adam" from "Satan and Adam". I super excited that you are my teacher! Thanks for posting the lesson.
Thank you soooooo much for this video it really got me started and motivated to play and you’re a really good teacher
